That's right, please everybody don't move to Portland.
Too late. Seriously. Hoover Dam sprung that leak fifteen years ago.
Go to the coast start in astoria
It rains tweakers and heroin addicts everywhere I live in north portland
@@melonheadoldskoolrodriguez2524 I need some Covid 19 herion
@@melonheadoldskoolrodriguez2524 Man I'm moving from Portland down to Grant's Pass (Hell yes Grant's Pass has an apostrophe) soon.
Growing up in portland in the 90s was a dream to be honest. My mom used to take me and my brother to Pioneer Square and the waterfront when there we're street performers, drum circles, hackysackers, ext. So much culture and love before... I miss how it was
Insufficient Funds what’s it like now?
Me, too, Imiss how Portlandused to be...it was such a great city with a small town vibe...but we do have better food and beer choices now! (Gotta put a positive spin in somewhere!!🙃)
@@linnsterlingcurebeliefinad1725 Imagine that The Dark Lord Sauron took over. New Portland has shades of San Franpsycho. New Portland is degraded
It's funny, I think of Portland as one of the lowest energy cities I've ever lived in. I don't even think of it as a city at all, kinda just a big town. For how much coffee this guy drinks, he is the sleepiest dude i've ever seen.
Jason Tuller it’s the legal weed here in Portland man lol dude is zapped
It sucks ass Jason. I had enough of it.
I love the way you live. I love what you do in your free time. I wish you were my friend and I could do some of these t hings with you. At least I can watch you in video and enjoy your company this way. I've watched you for a long time and you seem so kind and gentle and I think we need to clone you. Lol
Sweet Sunlight
Live north of Portland on Washington side and absolutely hate going to Portland for any reason! Terrible drivers, entitled people, homeless people everywhere
You could be describing any West coast city. It seems like the drug problem has gotten out of control. Then again, I never leave the west coast. Maybe East coast cities are the same.
Yea seems like we’ve had a large increase in the drug problem in the past 5 years. Most likely the opioid epidemic pretty sad
@@YourMom-nr5xe once weed was legalized, druggies of every strip increased here.
Can you go anywhere in Portland and not have the stench of weed around you ? Yuck.
@@StaticCamperVan Some, but u gotta go to CT or NJ, Manhattan, the east coast is better in most spots, but the been having the housing shortages for longer... more jobs though. Normal people. Vancouver or Gresham kind of flirts with what Im used to back home. Immigrant towns, good food, overall more regular than the west side of Portland and Milwaukie which I dont like much. If I had to be stuck in this area, Id do either the Couve or Gresham. Beaverton 3rd.
I live here. It is exactly as u say! ☹️
Those tacos and authentic Mexican food looked amazing. I've never been to Portland or Seattle but hope to soon. Thanks for taking us along.
One of my favorite vlogs yet!
I haven’t been to Portland for years and when I do I like to take the Amtrak down and not drive. I noticed you were in the Pearl District which is my favorite part of the city. Hope you had a nice T’Giving!
Thank you. I did have a nice holiday, was in the forest far away from people and cell service.
I always enjoy your coffee reviews! You go to such interesting places, take care and have fun!
Very much enjoyed this video. My son lived in Portland for a very short time. It was good to see the places he talked about. Wishing you luck on your future ventures also I subscribed today.
Thank you!
I really enjoyed this episode, Scott. The long format allowed continuity and although I mostly listened to it while doing other chores around the house, I was right with you every second of the way.
Hope you're well in your part of the world and be safe.
All is well, thanks.
Thanks so much for this beautiful video. I could almost taste those danishes and fresh bread. And the coffee sounded amazing. P.S. I love your hair cut. Have a great week. This video was amazing. Looking forward to your next. 🇵🇭

Hey Campervan, another well documented episode, be well out there, cheers on the coffee, tc
Always enjoy watching your videos..Relaxing but informative. Enjoy the upcoming week.
Great to follow your coffee hunt. Always relaxing to watch your weekend outings. Thanks!

"Don't move to Portland if your home is a tiny van"
I live in Portland (occasionally). And I live in a small van.
I just moved to Portland from San Francisco and I am living in my van...in front of your house.
@@age_of_reason Are the taxes affordable there? (in front of his house?)
Was born here and actively encourage people to move here. I love the growth wholeheartedly. Sure, there have been some consequences that have come with it, but I do love the community that is growing here.
Very interesting to hear your thoughts on this. The title of this video was intended as a joke. I really like Portland and consider it home. Albeit a home I don’t get to spend enough time in.
@@StaticCamperVan U seem to see it from a non committed angle. Like u can come and go as u want so u think nicer of Portland. For those stuck, its worse judging by experiences I have had. If u visit for a month, drop some cash at the bars, it can seem nice. but the minute u move there, it starts to suck the life out of u.
I'm really enJOYing this. To be able to take in various Communities that I've only heard about.
Good vid Static. I live in a small cabin with 2 acres but every time I watch your videos I want to Van Life decisions decisions.....
A lot of my vanlife friends want a cabin and some land. Definitely benefits to both ways of living.
We almost moved there about 7 years ago. Went there and hated it. So glad we didn’t stay. It’s a pit now.
Nice trip. always enjoy your take on places. safe travels.
Thanks for a visitor's view of Portland, from someone who grew up in the area.
Great vid... keep up the good work.
It’s actually been unusually dry for this time of year. I am quite enjoying it. I love walking around Portland when the weather is nice.
I can’t recall ever being in Portland when it wasn’t raining at some point.
Ive been planning on moving to Portland since 2 years ago. I've seen the eruption of people leaving and all the videos of the violence and I'm still like, "Wow still looks so much better than Arkansas."
You make a good point.
You should try putting some reflectix on the roof above your wave 3 heater as it might help warm the van quicker.
The Wave 3 is oversized for my space. It heats up really quickly all on it’s own.
I love the drive from Portland to Seattle!
Portlandia! A day in the life of a van dweller in Portland. I agree with Portland as a place to visit but not a place to live. See you soon bro!
Splendid. We need to get that bonfire going.
After my mom passed I went on a road trip to Oregon from Colorado with my best friend in 2007. We stayed in Portland and really enjoyed it. I do recall the energy level you mentioned and feel the same way. I definitely like visiting Portland but wouldn't want to make it my home. Thanks Scott!
That’s a common problem with the 12 V adapters. I found putting a small amount of silicone in the threads stop it from vibrating out. Keep up the good videos, you’re doing a great job.
Good idea
I love Portland, Oregon! ❤thanks Scott!!😊
Rain beats snow. Always like the tours of the different coffee and food places.
Absolutely! Please no more snow!
Great job on the video..as always👍. I'm going to have to go check that bakery out as well as making a date night out with the wife when she's back in town and maybe check out the Mexican place you ate at. Portland has grown in the past decade...its crazy how much down town area has changed.
✌🏼
Fiddly! Great word, thanks for using it. :)
You and Travis Heinze Rock for "Everyman" day in a life style content. Relaxing yet informative ,your vids give a sense of the "Human Experience" with little ego... film on utuber!!🤘😎
🙏🏼✌🏼
I lived there from 86 to 96, and only moved because my ex violated our custody agreement and moved back to TX. I just got back from Portland (visiting a friend) before the fires and smoke came - luckily. I'd move back in a heartbeat, if I could afford it. The homeless population has grown by leaps & bounds though, and concerns me.
Great video❤
Love it, "serenaded by the rain"
Campaña sounds right 🤔 nice area
What a fun Portland excersion...thanks.
When I worked in DTLA, I went to Ground Work all the time. They have the best tea and everything bagel. When I left my job they gifted me tea and a mug. Still have the mug. Now you’ve got me trying to find one near me. I miss going there. Glad you’re doing well.
So cool! They appear to be a solid company. I’ve never been to any of their LA locations. I used to buy Groundwork at Bristol Farms.
Coffee should be dope that’s cute , so many places to check out , when I make it to Portland I will need to have u give me a list of the best coffee spots as I think u love coffee as much as I do , hope u had a great night
Thanks!
Glad you like Portland. I was born and raised here and it wasn't always like this! I used to hate that there was nothing to do here but now I miss it very much. Ha ha! Thanks for the video :)
You’ve got some great peaceful parks, too. So there’s definitely places to get away from the crowds. I’ll be back as often as possible. Thanks for stopping by!
Still has little to do lol. Its just more expensive now. but I used to watch Cops in the 90s ok and listen to this.. people had bars on the windows in the "good old times" of Portland as I watched it from New England. I think it was high crime then too, even more Im thinking. I think it depends on part. Im willing to bet NoPo was better then than it is now. Gresham I think was a cultural center for a long time. I kinda like it there though.
On Point! It's truly not a place to live. It's GREAT to visit but NOT to live in. Could not agree more with the high energy comment. Love your videos. Thank you so much for always posting great content!
I wish i knew this 12 years ago... I could have avoided the trouble. Seemed like it would be a good place to live and socialize but once i moved to it, helll noooo. It would get expensive to go out to bars each night also to socialize. So thats not good. Portland only seems ok if ur immature.. then u find this "nativism" white supremacist culture that people pick up, even some not long after some of them settle in.
Glad to see a new vid!
I guess if you don't like the weather it would suck. But if you're a roofer it's a gold mine.
wow, so many choices where you live. Regional Australia has bugger all! lol
I enjoy your videos in general, but I particularly enjoy the coffee and food segments. Keep up the good work and the more coffee segments the better ...
Bringing me back I lived I. Portland in early 2000s and we had the same complaints homelessness, drugs and too many Californians driving up real estate prices. I’m sure i wouldn’t recognize it but I would love to go back and see how it’s different.
Yep Oregon.. Last time I went to Portland it poured on me from the minute I crossed into the state until I the minute I left. I was cool with it but was getting pretty sick of never being dry... I was just in various degrees of dampness.
Haha, yup. That’s Portland.
@@StaticCamperVan it's cloudy every day not rainy. And it doesn't rain all day every day only for a few days at a time it will do that. And especially after winter, alot of times it only rains at night.
What are you doing here lol. Hi.
The nice airport sucks u in at first, then people get mean the minute u move there. Its like Portlanders sense when someone visits vs someone who moved. Its so fkn odd. I never got this aniplace else where people just flip on a dime on u like that and all start giving u a freeze.
Dutch Brothers is huge in Colorado. It's always busy, and it's common for the lines to run out into the street.
Lol, I've got the same temperature / alarm clock / timer. I've got it from IKEA in the Netherlands. Europe. 👍
Enjoyed this video very much and I love your camera angles and the shots of the trams 🚈. That Mexican place looks pretty good! I’m taking Vana White down there by myself next month so I will try parking in the neighborhood you mentioned. Great weekend! The fears of the virus have last minute changed my flight out of SeaTac which was supposed to happen this morning. My daughter in Virginia’s boss said if she picked me up for my week with her, he would put her on a three week quarantine and she would lose three weeks pay because of his fear of anyone coming from Seattle! So I had to cancel last night. Luckily Alaska Airlines understood why I had to cancel and they put the funds into my Alaska wallet to use for a later flight. Fear will make people do extreme things but never before did I feel like a pariah because I am from the Seattle area. I told her I would drive my van across country perhaps and see her that way and she can just not tell her boss!
Oh my goodness! The fear is getting out of hand.
If you are ever in need of parking suggestions, send me a DM.
I think this was your longest video yet? Enjoyed it. ☺
It’s my second longest. But longest vlog.
Thanks for watching me prattle on ✌🏼
And we appreciate you too Scott! 😃
Glad you aren't worried about being stealthy. Lol.
I love that book store. It's huge. Hope you find your milk 😁.
“Stealth” is the biggest lie we’ve been told about vanlife. My only worry is finding oat milk 😂✌🏼
Oh my gosh your so close. I’m in the cov. I’m going to try your blend of coffee.
Please let me know what you think of it.
I will.
That tart looks like one I purchased in Paris. It was fabulous. We’re you able to buy some of the coffee beans that you liked so you could make some later? (I see you did) I enjoy Seattle’s Best but there aren’t any here in Upstate NY. I did buy some beans a few years back and the six bags lasted me for years. I had to freeze some of them. But every time I ground some up I was in heaven just from the smell alone. Enjoying your channel. This is my second watch and I like your moderate cadence. Too many youtubers are all hyper. Be well and stay safe.
It seems as though our favorite coffee is always difficult to get. I wonder if there’s a correlation?
I was surprised to see Wegmans doesn’t carry Seattle’s Best coffee. I checked. Maybe our favorites are meant as an occasional treat.
Dutch Brothers is popular in Phoenix here and it is essentially cola coffee because it has about as much sugar as a soda. It is essentially all blended sweet drinks, the coffee is so so but no one ever buys the coffee, they normally just add espresso shots for cheap to a lot of cream and sugar and other candy.
No idea that DD was in the desert. I’ll continue to avoid the place. Thanks!
Once i have a dutch freeze, I cant have one for 4 months. Its like Dunkin with the sugar content.
Try following me around in Portland in a semi. Had 7 stops last Wednesday and Thursday reloaded nursery plants in Boring then had too go way out too Amity closer too McKinnville for my other pickup
No, thank you.
When I'm not drinking coffee (our own beans) from my coffee house - I love Bitches Brew! Dutch Brother's is for a younger crowd that doesn't like the taste of coffee, hence all the damn sugary stuff.
At least you're not having to pay sales tax here in Oregon, if you buy something!
BTW - looks like you passed up India House - great food.
Agreed about Dutch Bro’s. It is for the bro generation.
Sherry, India House is good? I’ll remember that for the future.

Nice video! I like Portland too but I wouldn't want to live there either. It's really nice to visit though. Next time I go there I'm going to see if I can stay at that Tiny house hotel that they have there just for fun. My van is so tiny that one of those might feel like a mansion!
I'm glad that you got to get some of your favorite coffee. That's vary important!
Keep 'em coming! I love your videos!👍👍😊
Just looked up the Tiny House Hotel. That looks cool!
🙏🏼😊☕️
@@StaticCamperVan yes totally! I am hoping that they let me park my tiny house by their tiny houses! People might want to stay in my van. He he! They might think that it's part of the hotel! We could trade for the night! 🤣😂🤣🤣
But no really I'm going to try and stay there sometime. It will be a blast! 😊
I was disappointed when you decided not to get the pizza then was happy you decided to get it. I love pizza.
I noticed your gas price at the lovs station was $2.79. It's $1.99 here. I don't think I could live where it rains a lot but enjoy seeing the area through your videos.
Funny you should mention gas prices, I pulled off the highway and filled up as soon as I saw gas for less than $3 a gallon.
I need to come up there for a trip to see what rain is like again .We have had not a drip of rain since January and 77 degrees now in Sacramento area .At least your video reminds me of what it is like .
Mikeykaysuper you’ll get all the rain you’re after up here!
77° sounds like a dream.
I like Sac more tbh with u. Sac I think is now on par with Seattle which still means above Portland. as far as a better life goes.
When I lived in Portland, I loved Mt. Tabor park.
I got robbed at gun point in Mt. Tabor.
This was in the 90s of course but I will always hate that part of town lol
I've lived walking distance to Mt Tabor most of my life and walk there 3+ days a week. The best!! Also, its snowing in Portland today! Love it!!!
Scott, Do you have a roadside service you pay for in case of an emergency, like AAA? I would love van dwell, fairly mechanical, however wiring and electrical I'm clueless, troubleshooting shorts. I can change a fuse and replace a battery, I don't own a multi meter. I've been stranded too many times driving crappy cars. First time viewing your Portland video and was thinking your drive back at night to Seattle, if you encounter vehicle issues what was your backup plan. Great video.
Yes, I’ve been a AAA member for over twenty years before I started vanlife. I carry a few basic tools and have CZcams and Google for help looking up fixes.
Hey Scott..love Portland..to visit only tho 😁
You too? Haha
Ud be smart to keep that line of thinking. To be stuck here is no good. - A New Englander looking to gtfo this place.
Stay caffeinated! ☕👍😀
Moving there next Tuesday
Well howd that work out for u? I'd rather move to Old Tampa than Portland. the underdeveloped hood. No joke.. I would.
Hey Campervan, I know your hit hard up there where your at with the cor19, watch yourself, because even cattle in the corral can be dangerous, cheers on the home brew! be well out there, tc
Good advice. Thank you. Hope you are well.
We are all in for a rough go.
I just moved to Portland, haha. No regrets yet!
It’s a great city. Hope you’re getting settled in.
lol give it time.
I live in the Portland Metro Area and I feel every city has it's good points and bad points. Yes it rains a lot during the winter season and some at the beginning of spring, but overall it's quite beautiful when it's sunny and warm outside. You can go east to Mt. Hood and spend your time hiking in the warmer seasons or head to the Oregon Coast where there are awesome towns to stop and visit while driving down the our scenic Hwy 101. If you don't like a lot of rain then the Pacific Northwest from Salem, Oregon to Seattle, Washington that's known for the rain you would be better off living in California, Florida(with it's muggy heat or if you like dessert dry weather, then Nevada or some other state of your liking.
I really like Portland and the coast. I went to central Oregon last year and was blown away at the beauty.
It’s funny you say that Portand is to high energy. As a Portland resident, I always think that about Seattle.
Seattle shuts down early. At night the city seems deserted.
Static CamperVan well, I love Seattle. When my van is ready, and finances are straightened out, I will definitely spend time up there.
Its an annoying kind of high energy with some laziness attached to it. Its odd. Its not like what u get in Boston for instance. Not "with it" as much, but the traffic has caught up. Like if a podunk town tried to be New york. If its like a NE city, Id say Halifax NS comes to mind more, it might be a tad better there though.
Thank you for the interesting and relaxed movie. I always like waking up slowly (with the first coffee) watching your latest video. Have you ever thought about audio books anstead of movies in the evening? Its really worth the try, very relaxing and, if you got a good one, at least the same entertaining as a movie. Also nice while driving long distance. Concerning your stickers, isnt there a way to get one to Europe? Of course I am willing to pay more for the shipping?
Good tip about the audio books. I should look into that.
Unfortunately, shipping internationally is a bit complicated. I don’t sell the stickers to make a profit. If I were a business, it might be easier. I don’t know. Sorry that I can’t oblige.
@@StaticCamperVan Thank you very much for the quick reply. No problem with the stickers. Maybe I will ask a friend in the US to order and bring it with him when he comes to Europe.

Three restaurants in one video?! 😂 I have a pair of Keen shoes and I love them. I noticed this video was right before Covid; I wonder if Portland has changed since then? I remember seeing that there was a lot of craziness going on there in the past few years.
Now I need to go to a bakery 🥯
Scott what are your thoughts about the stretch of Oregon coast between Lincoln City and Newport? We are exploring the idea of potentially relocating to this area, perhaps further inland near Albany. Any feedback is appreciated.
unfortunately, I don’t know much about that area. it’s an area that is high on my list to explore because the coast there is beautiful. the rain can be fierce there, which is why I didn’t linger in the area on my trip down South.
@@StaticCamperVan I greatly appreciate your reply.
Your bread looks good. Bread bores me unless toasted, but I really love crust so I get bread to have crust.
Do you eat pizza crust?
Yes,with gusto if it is well-done thin crust-- not that awful New York stuff that sags like a old wash rag when you are trying to get it to your mouth. There must be sour dough pizza crust somewhere, but I have not found it. And never use a microwave to warm it up unless you like it chewy.
I can always be sure I’ll see coffee, tacos and a spork. 2 outta 3 isn’t bad.
Fear not. The Spork is alive and well and was put to good use on this trip.
Cant go two hours without coffee? I can relate.
That town or city has a lot of UK vibes going on especially the weather
Put Dynamat on the inside of your roof... it really helps with noise.
I installed cork. It works very well.
sometimes i like to watch a classic : - )
Wow Portland looks like an abandoned ghost town…
Loved the tour around Portland. It is a great city!
Was in Portland last summer traffic was terrible. Nice city to visit though.
The heavy traffic is my least favorite part about visiting Portland.
Wow one of these days I’m gonna make it up your way it would be so cool to see that part of the world hav tried to make it there twice but never made it past San Francisco when I finally get there we must meet up for coffee for sure ...is that a propane heater ? I will check your older videos and see what it is
It’s a great area, you’d like it here. Yes, that is an Olympian Wave 3 propane heater. It works great.
You think Portland is higher energy than Seattle. That sounds like a first to me. I appreciate the video. Great pacing and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.
Seattle seems to like to sleep in and also go to bed early. It’s an odd trait, but a great vanlife city.
Loved Portland in 1983 when I was there last.
Scott if you keep having problems with the jackery use thread lock it is just a paste that will not wreck the function, and after a year of watching you, I am wondering do you ever boondock, love your videos, but maybe because it reinforces why I stay as much as I can out of the city, and I know you will hate it, but we are instant coffee drinkers. Safe travels and thanks for the video, and we will keep watching, and drinking instant coffee way out in nowhere, because I guess we have never had a good cup of coffee
Yeah, thread lock. I bought a tube and promptly misplaced it. I think it’s in the van somewhere. Maybe. Haha.
I don’t boondock much these days. I’ve been dreaming about a trip back to the Eastern Sierras. And I miss boondocking near Lake Arrowhead.
Life in or near cities is easier in a small van with little storage space. But most of my time last summer was spent in or near the Olympic Peninsula. Several trips went undocumented since I was having too nice a time to shoot any video.
Please don’t misunderstand me. Drink whatever coffee you like the taste of. I used to like instant coffee. Part of the appeal of making coffee is the somewhat ceremony of it. Especially making pour over coffee, as it forces us to slow down.
I wish for a slower pace of life. I can get that slowed pace for a few minutes a day while preparing coffee.
@@StaticCamperVan I guess to me, there's so much to see and so little time that I don't like to wait for coffee and as you know like you for now I have a traditional job and I am stuck in the same place Monday-friday for a few more months, but we finally found jobs that free us come June 1st. Safe travels Scott
I started using Oatly in my coffee after watching your videos, and I also switched to full-fat instead of Barista edition. I even asked Oatly what the difference is between the two. Full-fat has slightly more fat than Barista, and apparently Barista is made to foam better, so the full-fat has a slightly creamier mouthfeel. I don't taste a huge difference between them personally.
Interesting. I’ve just now opened the half gallon of Oatly and I like it. Now if I can manage to find it in stock close by.
I live in portland. I love it here but dont move here please! Traffic is bad enough
traffic is bad because of left lane hoggers, people that dont let zipper mergers and old people who go slower then the flow of traffic. I would have street racers drive on highways with speeds up to 140mph and drifters do sideshows then old boomers making traffic
Ukrainian Driver Sergii I mean your nothing but right. Im not sure about the street racers thing but if the laws behind using the left lane for passing was actually enforced it would help a lot. Although theres still just a lack of highway lanes and good roads
Mr. Caduo™ yes save room for all the illegal immigrants.......
☕️ 🍕 🌮 ☕️ 🌧 🥖 ☕️ Good times in Portland...
The next time you're in Portland go to Flying pie pizza on 78th and Stark SE. Its the best pizza in Portland!
Definitely not but still a classic.
Life of Pie is where u wanna go.
Its one of them where u wont have long lines to get a slice.. I agree. I like them. Id go to the FP before the hipster spots to get Pizza. Even rubens in Tualatin isnt that good I dont think.
