Born in Portland July 1946. served in the Vietnam War as a helicopter machine gunner, and was awarded for my skills. My mother's family did the Oregon trail trek in 1866.

If you want some good and peaceful waterfalls, head east to Silver Falls State Park. That place is amazing and worth the drive. No, it’s not Portland, but it is PNW and has the Trail of Ten falls around the 7.2 mile loop.

LOL'ing at the weather. My son goes to Oregon State University and when we did the school tour we had sun, rain, and even snow/sleet. I feel like we got the FULL Oregon experience that day. We ALWAYS hit up Tacovore for tacos and Grand Central Bakery for all the baked goodies.
Oh, and Bamboo Sushi is the absolute best ever.
You're completely right. Didn't know your son went to OSU. So cool! Always a fun excuse to hit up all the good food.
@@heathertormey I can't wait to go back to Bamboo Sushi on my next visit. Swiss Hibiscus in another place I always recommend, but it seems lesser known but always gets great reviews and people I've taken there love it.
I love Portland. We stay downtown this summer. We stay at Hilton Embassy downtown. Dt is just like any big city. Went to Pearl district. The next day visited Saturday market McCall park. Also, a must visit Mt Tabor park.Check out the Kerns district. Cool area. Best few days spent.

Whenever I'm in Portland, I go to the OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry), where they actually have a retired submarine in the river that you can tour, along with the jet boat rides and a lot of other fun stuff. I like to ride the Portland Aerial Tram to get an unparalleled view of the city, tour Pittock Mansion 1000 feet up in the West Hills, and go to Hoyt Arboretum and the zoo in Washington Park. And no trip to Portland is complete until you go to the beach and see Haystack Rock, Cape Kiwanda and Seaside.

Portland and surrounding environs are great. I lived there through most of the 90s, and now that I'm older, I'm thinking of retiring there (I live in Southern California). It's a really special place.

Disney Springs has a Salt and Straw and I swear it the best ice cream we’ve ever had!
Absolutely try Pip's original (or their Beaverton location which is cool too!) If you want some super great made to order doughnuts and chai! If you're looking for some of the best Pizza in town i highly recommend the burnside location of Sizzle Pie! If you're every looking for some other food recommendations or just wicked cool experiences in the area (or honesty the entire PNW, i explore a lot hahaha) let me know too, I'd be happy to help! 😀

Between protestors, homelessness, crime and violence it is not the same place I called home for 20 years.
Six years ago, I was fortunate enough to see this city in a different light. I went back March of this year, and you can see and feel that city is really going through a rough spell.
Portland has declined drastically. Notice there was not footage of the sidewalks? I was down there a couple weeks ago. I was in near tears. The town I used to live is yeah. Don't let this video paint a false picture of the city. 😢

The median sale price per square foot in Portland is $323, up 6.1% since last year.
Blue star is way too sweet and chalky dough. Pips for doughnuts and chai(yes you have to get chai) is the place. The owner is amazing as well. Smallest park and the largest park in a city with Mills end and Forest Park. International Test Garden and Crystal springs Rhododendron are great in city parks. As for your tacos, Mole Mole is the best.

Portland has lots of barbecue (many southern transplants). You are also right that Blue Star doughnuts is worlds better than Voodoo Donuts.
The BBQ was so good but definitely surprised us! Portland has too much good food!
Also the best pizza on the west coast, DeNicola's. 35th. & Powell.🍕

Portland Oregon, getting better?
Ha! We moved last year from the Portland metro to the Chattanooga metro. Partly because PDX has been a cluster for a while, and because Chattanooga reminds of what PDX used to be like when we were growning up. Still love the PDX area for the nature and climate, but won't ever move back and the Chatt area has all of that too, minus the crazy.😂
How is housing there??? Stupid crazy $$$ like most of the west coast???

I don’t get the hate. If you don’t live in it, you have no sound knowledge to be criticizing. If you used to live in it, then move on and stop obsessing over a city you left. If you live in it, move if you don’t feel safe. So much exaggerated anger towards a city, like they were wronged and dumped by an ex. Having lived in other major cities, Portland isn’t much worse with its issues. If you can’t see past that and focus on the wonderful things it does have to offer, then you really don’t belong in Portland anyway. Never seen people so triggered over a city.

Yikes, a couple days ago on NPR a correspondent was saying the drug problem is so bad that he couldn't walk anywhere downtown without seeing people doing hard drugs a few feet away.
