Thank the so called genius engineering from chevy that came up with this idea. Mine leaks like a siv as well and that is just a small rain or a wash. I liked waterbeds but not like this. It's an 03 so I guess I can't complain too much based on the age and knowing things wear out as they get older. "Myself included". But I appreciate your video and great tip on resealing the panels. I will have to give this a try.
Hello, first off great video. I also live in Florida (South Florida) & my pop's just past on to me his 07 Avalanche that has this same problem. Did you reseal all 3 panels or just 2? Also, can I get an update on your fix is holding up. Many thanks
There are only two seals at the seams of the three panels. I sealed both. They still do not leak there but, during super heavy rain, the drain gutters made in these on the sides still over flow. This year I tried something different to add to these covers. I bought a used roll up cover for a 5' bed. I riveted it at the window end to panel 3 and riveted the Velcro loop strip on each side. The idea was to let the heavier water run off before the troughs could fill up. If I need to remove the hard covers I still can and the soft cover removes with the third panel. Time will tell if the rivets are going to hold in the plastic. I am not sure and might have to re design how I have it attached. I still need to figure out how to keep it from getting air under it while on the road. But so far I have not seen any water inside at all. It has been three months so far!
Thank you for the video . My Avalanche leaks really hard and I've worked on it a few times . That extra sealant looks like it should do the trick . How is your truck now
Still dry for the most part. I did get just a slight bit of water inside the last rain storm. Here in Florida it rains real hard and can come from all directions when it does rain, so I am still pleased with the results!
@@bassbritt5865 How did the fix work out for you? My dad just gave me his 07 avalanche with 95,000 miles & I have the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated
This problem is obviously caused by seals shrinking and loose adhesive mostly from time probably spent in the sun. New seals would be nice but I've searched and searched and still found nothing.
@@thopper5065 This second repair has been holding great no water at all inside. When it rains here in Florida we get water by the inches and very hard rain. All my tools stay dry now!!!
The sealer strip I used is no longer available but there is a clear or brown one very similar to it.www.amazon.com/dp/B06X9X3QD3/ref=psdc_495372_t2_B07LCBGGN2
Thanks. I've been waiting for a better fix. I had a shop use rtv but it didnt work and it's already coming apart. I'm excited to try this solution myself

@@MissionFlightUnited thanks for the video! I'm going to reseal all 3 panels as soon as I can, figure I might as well do them all while I'm at it!
Where can I the replacement seals for the bed covers?

Today it was raining hard and I checked inside the bed and it was dry, so the reseal fixed the leaking!

Do you know where to find the handles that lock the tops in place
Ebay. They're like 35 bucks. But be warned. Getting the old one off is a bitch
Did you use 3m 5200 marine sealant?
What did you do as far as prep work?
@@R1Raven_ I scraped out the putty sealant from the original install and just wiped everything down with clean rags.
Yes, 5200 marine sealant
