- If your CMT-CP300 will no longer open the CD drawers, you need to replace the loading belt. Thankfully this is a 30 minute job. I hope this video enables you to save your unit and keep it out of landfill.

fantastic video, saved our machine, perfect explanation, very much appreciated, made it simple to fix myself, all donei in half an hour.
Awesome, I’m so glad I could help. 👍
A Really Great video. This has truly helped me on how to diagnose & self-repair a Sony CMT-CP2WA with a lifeless & stuck CD Drawer Tray. It's is only a single CD Player, but the front panel & overall design is almost identical to this Sony CMT-CP300. Although it was really quite tricky finding the right CD rubber belt, because it uses a different one. Maybe because its a 3 Stack-CD System vs. a Single CD Tray. Here is a real Sony CMT-CPXXX Hi-fi Expert. Got this Sony CMT-CP2WA at a bargain price so £5.95 for A New Original Sony Branded CD Belt was no big deal. I think so many Units like these just get junked because people huge estimates by repairs shops, for probably quite simple faults.
This video simply teaches you a very lot more that even the Official Sony Repair Manual doesn't give instructions on.
Many Thanks ! From ...
Micro-jo
Mine has a problem in the main volume wheel (apart from the cd changer and both tape decks not working, of course). The wheel seems to have erratic behaviour when i turn it. Thanks to your video i saw that there's a belt connected to the wheel. So, maybe i just need replacements for every belt in the system... Still think this is a great hifi system, with a clean and powerful sound
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I’ll be giving this a go later. Working your way into these machines is a bit like the crystal maze. I’m sure you’ve saved me loads of time undoing unnecessary parts 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for this very precious tutorial. I have tried and with a good luck it is a success. Thanks
I've got three CDs inside one of these. This an excellent instruction video and I shall now be able to fix my machine and retrieve them. Thanks for very clear instructions (and the eBay link).
Happy to have been of assistance. Best of luck with your machine. 👍
Great video, was thinking it was ready for the bin after nigh on twenty years. Working like a dream! Thank you! Lee
Great job instructions were clear and well explained!!!
Thanks man! Very clear instructions, I just go my stereo back!
Great video mate! I have cp333 model from 2003. Lots of memories from when I was a teenager and tons of music out of this old man.Sadly my tape broke many years ago and I use it until now as a audio out from my pc and the sound is exactly the same as used to be when I bought it. I'll give it a try fixing it in the future because it's a unique retro gem and worths it 100%.thanks.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was able to fix mine 🙏😁
Thank you very much for this video! It will save me a lot of time and having to buy a new stereo! Going to order the part now !
Thanks for the video, very instructional, was able to replace the band and save this beautiful stereo without any trouble!
I notice you haven't posted for a while but thanks, you have saved another from landfill.
I wouldn't have bothered otherwise. I tend to break things when it isn't obvious how they dismantle.
As others have said, one of the best instructional videos I have ever seen. I bet a video of your first one would be funnier though. :)
btw...the link for the belt has expired but they are still available on ebay.
Thanks very much; just discovered excellent video! eBay link for belt failed though. Dismantled twice already and prev arrived at how you've done it myself the hard way before seeing the vid. Belt on order now from web spare parts. Fingers crossed! Phil, Lincolnshire. Update: the belt arrived from Portugal extremely quickly and it's now working. Great video.
😳 - when I was at secondary school, the gym had that mini HI-FI, the PE teacher would swing it out of a cupboard on a tv bracket, with a square hole cut into the cupboard door frame for the bracket arm, power and speaker wires, the speakers were mounted on the wall above the cupboard - the speakers and their wires are the only visible part when the unit is locked away in the cupboard. The teacher mostly played house/fitness and workout music on it for exercising with (similar to a commercial leisure centre gym)
Thank you for this video, I am due to get one of these tomorrow with presumably the same fault (tray won’t open) hoping it will work again once I put the new belts in! Perfect clear instructions too :)
Great Job
Very useful vidéo 🙏 thanks for this tutorial 👍
Also it would be great to see the tape belt replacement video you mention at the end...
Thanks for your vidéo. Top
Hello Eddie. Thanks for the presentation and help, the belt link is no longer available. Keep safe you and yours.
This is a wonderful video about how to repair these little gems but can you please add the lengths of the replacement belts, both for cd drive and cassette decks. Thank you!
I had one these models the single deck version
Oi m8, this one is by far one of the best repair vids on whole YT. Clear and straight to the point explanation of EVERY single step needed, good camera angles and lighting, clear image, no 30 mins of theoretical mumbling about nothing. Perfect, just perfect. Btw, can you please tell what is the dimension of the belt you was replacing?
Thank you. I just wanted to help others with this stereo, as every single one of these I’ve seen has this problem, and it really is such an easy fix. I’ll see if I’ve still got a spare belt and measure it for you.
@@eddiebearscave8822 Thanks a lot!
@@amigator7789 hello! I also had that doubt and couldn’t find a replacement belt. I order a pack of 100 from eBay for less than 3 pounds and simply put the one that felt “right”. It’s now working fine. This video is awesome!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I was able to fix my Sony HCD CMT-CP333 by replacing the CD loading belt as described in your video. But after a few days, the stereo machine stops ejecting CDs again. The new rubber belt is still in a good condition but there is another problem that prevents the machine to eject. I would appreciate it if you can help me to solve this problem.
Brilliant instructional video. I could not get the proper belt but a sturdy elastic band worked fine and will probably last a few years. CD changer is now back in business. However, I lost the left-channel audio during the repair. Any suggestion as to which internal cable I should recheck to see if it is not snug or got damaged? I am keen to try the cassette belt repair also, so when you have time.... Thanks.
Great video. Is there a similar one for the CMT-CP1?
Great video, but can’t access the model number for the rubber belt drive on your site. I have the CMT-CP300 system, please send info. Thanks
is possible to clean laser eye? how to do? tnx
Great video! Maybe looks a bit complicated for me though. Do you run a repair shop and do repairs like this for other people? If so, how do I contact you?
My grandma has this exact problem with her unit so this will be great for when I repair it! The link to the spare part from eBay is down though anybody got another link?
Thanks for the amazing video! Mine has also the same problem and I can now fix it! When will you do the one about the casset deck, it would be really nice 😅😅
I’m glad the video helped. I’m hoping to do the cassette deck video soon. 👍
at around 13:30 you talk about "retiming the unit" if I hear correctly. Do you perhaps know about some step by step of how to put it together? I took mine apart sooner than watching the video and is is just stuck now ! :D Thanks!
Oi eu tenho um aparelho desse ficou muito tempo desligado só que não quer funcionar o CD e o toca fitas onde devo levar para limpar?
great
Do you know how much rms it has?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kylie Minogue! 💜
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Good detailed video! Now I just have to order that belt. Do you have similar movies on how to replace cassette belts?
Btw. When I opened mine, the old belt (15+years) was so soft and sticky, I had to remove it's remainings with a tweezer. Difficult task. Do the overhaul once you notice performance downturn.
I’m glad the video helped. I am aiming to do a video on the cassette deck when I am able to. 👍
Excellent video which answers all my questions regarding the Cd, although my unit is contained within a CDP-S3 (part of a MHC-S3 mini HiFi). You mention that one may need to re-time the unit if the holes on the cogs dont match up. Any clues on how one would go about doing this?
John H When I did one of these, I just unscrewed the sides, removed a couple of the gears and manually realigned everything. It worked for me. There are alignment holes so it makes it very easy to see what should be where.
In kazahstan, sony cmt cm333 price 35$
Hi eddie
I replaced the belt with your help and now ejects but why would I have no sound ? It sees there’s a disc but no volume, the radio works , however no sound from the cd ? Have you any videos on this
Thanks
Sounds like you didn’t plug one of the ribbon cables in properly 🤭
Is it possible to covert audio cassette to cd with this device ?
No unfortunately it is not a CD recorder
Followed instructions but CDs will not eject. Any ideas please?
Does the stepper motor activate?
Very well explained, but can you give me the number of the correct belt for this repair, thanks Fast Eddie, Canada
Hey Fast Eddie, I'm in Canada too (Ontario, specifically). I couldn't get access to the belt needed in the ebay link in the description, so I fished around the web a bit and eventually landed on WebSpareParts (which, now that I look closer, is part of that url to ebay). I bought a set of 4 belts that are compatible with this stereo. After working on the unit, I realize I bought a kit of belts that are meant to replace the 4 belts of the cassette tape section of the stereo. As best as I could measure, this 4-pack had two belts that were 1mm in diameter and 6.5 cm long and another two belts that are 3mm in diameter and 9.5 cm long. The 1mm/6.5cm belt is a perfect fit for the belt needed on the CD cassette. By the way, changing out the belts on the cassette tape section looks to be a little more involved, a lot more things need to be unscrewed. I think I'll order another set of belts from WebSpareParts and keep them handy for the inevitable. Cheers, AnnaMaria 1980
@@AnnaMaria1980 Thanks Anna Maria for that info, it is very useful, especially the belt dimensions. I will make a note of that. I was almost ready to give up when I noticed the very belt I was looking for was being sold on EBay by Norfolk Electronics in Norfolk (UK) ( www.ebay.ca/usr/norfolkelectronicsonline ) belt description item # 194072105612 item price : GBP 7.99 plus shipping/taxes = approx. $24 C. Seems crazy when you have to purchase from the (UK) I tried the Sony supplier in Canada, & they told me this particular item was not available for purchase in Canada, but I'll bet it is available to the repair shops here. I have to wait about (3) weeks for delivery, but it will be well worth it if I can get my unit working again, there's not much out there now to choose from in this kind of unit, thanks, Ed
Hello again, thank you sir, for taking the time to explain very professionally on this belt replacement, I just completed the fix, & I'm happy to report, my unit is working again. I got my belt from Norfolk England thru' ebay, had a couple of weeks to wait on the part, but it was worth it. In reference to Anna Maria, I'm from your neck of the woods, Ontario, Canada, it's a small world. A big thanks to Eddybears Cave, you're the greatest, thanks, Fast Eddy
well, i know what iiii'm doing in 2-5 weeks depending on shipping,
