Wow ! It is indeed very satisfying to bring an audio system back from the dead. I know that as an audio enthusiast and hobbyist. Hope you keep doing this and your joy spreads to others around you.
Hatte ich in den ca. 1980ern auch! Stand in der Küche, neben Kaffeemaschine, Toaster und Mikrowelle. Die Lautsprecherboxen standen auf dem Schrank. (Längere Kabel montiert.)
The CD mechanism is very likely the same unit still used in many boomboxes and cheapo stereo systems available today, hence the reason you can easily buy the complete unit from Ali Express.
I didn't show it in the video, but if I manually gave the disc a push so it was already spinning before closing the lid, it would sometimes be able to spin it up, read it, and would play the disc. It just didn't seem able to spin the disc up to full speed from a standing start.
Yes they generally seem to think things are worth a lot more than they are. I'm lucky to have one that prices their electronic goods sensibly, and it's just a five minute walk from where I work. I usually pop in at least once a week to see if they've got anything interesting.

Holy, I rememeber that they had a similar system at school. Teacher would either put a CD (mostly) and sometimes (rarely)
Moltes Gràcies !!!

Amazing how many views this has compared to your subscribers, well done. Great fix, too.
Thanks. I'm slightly baffled as to why this is so popular too!
@@timf-tinkering I still can't figure out this CZcams algorithm stuff. Well done though.

Very likely, although this unit can't play CD-RW discs. I would assume most "modern" players would have that capability (but maybe not, I don't know).
Hi there. You will probably find that the problem with the cd is the laser pick up on there. I have a cd player here with the same sort of problem. 😂

👍
That's a laser diode problem, not the motor
If I spun the disc manually so it was already spinning when I closed the lid, it would play the disc. That's why I suspected the motor.
Charity shops are getting outta hand with the prices they want for alot of things these days
