    Thanks Rod, Will & Jay, Brian and Brent for your help. I was really scared at one point. I actually didn’t see the sign I was looking at my line. No more black diamonds for “Soccermom”. Really fun trip. Can’t wait for the next one. Love your videos Rod!

    We were there and got word by a bunch of bikers that there was a rig that was stuck on that trail. We rush over to see if we can help...our friend was in a red Tacoma wanted to help out but I guess you guys had someone coming already.

    Why not just hook up to the white 4Runner and have them give you a tug through the obstacle? Why risk getting closer to the edge of the cliff by recovering backward? The Sequoia was so close to popping over that rock, the slightest tug from the 4Runner would have done the trick. Instead you took unnecessary risk, in my opinion.

  • @benkamber9412
    @benkamber9412 Před 2 lety +2

    How bad of a cliff is that? Hard to tell but looks terrifying.

    • @k9projectworks
      @k9projectworks  Před 2 lety

      Hey there! That cliff looked pretty bad from the camera angles, but I would say it was a good 20 foot steep drop down the hillside. It wasn't a sheer cliff, but definitely not worth risking. This group had two (5Gen 4Runners) and one (1st Gen Sequoia). The 4Runners cleared the obstacles with some minor fender scrapes and continued on the trail. The Sequoia "once recovered" turned back went to camp with our group. We all made it out safely back down the Coyote Flats side into Bishop. Thanks for watching!

    Was watching this video and it looks like no one was in 4lo. That part is a little technical but my 2.5 in lifted jk doesn't raise a tire on that section. Maybe it just the way their set up.

    • @k9projectworks
      @k9projectworks  Před rokem

      I hear you and totally agree! These guys were in 4Lo, but their gearing doesn't seem to crawl as low as our Jeeps. At least from my experience, I tend to notice they use more gas to get going. I am used to driving Jeeps only, and it was pretty frustrating to try and get this rig up this obstacle, since it did not have the same crawl-ability to what I am used to.

    Hey! I’m trying to go do some dispersed camping in coyote flats area and was wondering how the beginning of the trail is for a car with stock suspension. I know I won’t make it to coyote flats but would love to drive the road!

    • @ItsPapaa
      @ItsPapaa Před rokem +1

      What car is it? Last year i went the trail was pretty rough. Really steep and got a lot of rutted sections I wouldn’t recommend a stock car on. The trail is probably a lot worse this year from all the snow melt. You can get close up near south lake trail though

    • @pennmikael
      @pennmikael Před rokem +1

      @@ItsPapaaI’m also thinking about going up. Stock suspension gx460 and a lx470. Both have full skids and sliders. Do we stand a chance?

    • @k9projectworks
      @k9projectworks  Před rokem

      I would recommend a 4x4 with 4Lo and some decent ground clearance. A modified AWD vehicle might be pushing it, but it is possible. Of course, this is only after the trail has been re-opened and the dirt road has been leveled. The trails up there were damaged recently (huge deep rutted sections.) Don't go alone and bring recovery gear.

    • @k9projectworks
      @k9projectworks  Před rokem +2

      You will want some ground clearance, only as there as some off camber sections that your tires may bring your frame down into the ground. That said, a decently experienced off roader can take a stock 4x4 up there, but it all depends if the deep rutted section have been filled in. Thanks for watching!

      Well said! A lot of lessons were learned and more can be taught from this experience. I am planning to revisit this recovery with what went wrong (many things) and what could have led to a disaster and the takeaways for future trips. I am planning to get formal recovery/winch training from certified recovery organization to help our community be better prepared. Thanks for watching 👍🏽

      Why didn’t the white 4Runner hook up to the Sequoia and pull? And the Sequoia should have been turned full passenger so it would crab walk back onto the road while being winched. You just need to slow down and consider all possibilities.

  • @AJG77
    @AJG77 Před 8 měsíci +2

    Is it just me or does it look like you guys probably need a little bit better technique on recovery

    • @k9projectworks
      @k9projectworks  Před 8 měsíci

      You are correct! This recovery could have gone bad quickly and showed us the many mistakes that were made.I decided to take an approved off road recovery course two months after this. Now, we try to practice safer winching, anchoring, and safe placement along with proper recovery gear. More importantly, making better decisions and line selection to prevent getting stuck in the first place. I just took another refresher last month. Thanks for watching 🙏🏽
