For some reason, even though I doubt I'm able to understand all of the meaning of the song, it's still as enchanting - and maybe even more so - as all the other Mili songs.
This is one of the more hopeful songs (at least, to me), though. At the end, the noose is hung by its' loop rather than tied to the hook, which combined with the lyrics prefacing it ("it took a million, a billion generations to bring me here, i'm not going back") makes me think the character has decided to live in spite of all of the things that have befallen them. Both because they think the world is beautiful and worth living in, and also because of the effort it took to create them.
Theories aside, this is an incredible song and another display of just how good Mili's vocal range is! Fantastic work everyone involved
I think the scissors cutting next to the noose also supports this theory, Like they're cutting away their suicidal thoughts (as well as their relationship) And moving forwards, never going back

To me it's just a song to her mom that seems to think "there's nothing for her there (in the music industry)", sounds more like a revenge and now far from her mom she became the ocean's baby. This song hit me to my core. It debuted at a time where I started my new life. Newly graduated, moving to a new city, leaving my family behind to pursue a better life for myself. It nearly made me cry the first time I heard it. I'm on my own, with a future that I will mold myself and hopefully create something wonderful for myself. I've been a longtime fan of Mili and several of their songs are pure gems, and this one may not be the most popular, but for me and my journey, it's the most important song I've ever heard in my life. Thank you Mili 🙏

My interpretation about this song:
The kid is an unexpected but desired kid, product of a loving relationship between a Japanese woman and a non-Japanese man in a country so far away from the islands.
But short after the mother gives birth, she dies. (Shooting from endometrial lines / Looking back to our motherland / Mommy look! You are fireworks!)
After the kid is born, the father takes him into custody and the kid is raised in his father's country. Some years later, when the child is older, the father gets married with a different woman. But the kid is a nuisance to the step-mother (I come in Peace, don't leave me out / Sure I'll raise you like my own / A taste (...) of your conditioned love)
As the kid grows older, he is discrimined by his step-Mother and by the people around him because of his asiatic ascendence.
And this mistreatment led the kid to suicidal thoughts, but he still kept in mind his origins, and the fact that his mother loved him very deeply (my skin, my eyes, my ears, and the world you left me are the signs you loved me).
So he decided to come back to where he is not different, to the place where his roots and his mother's roots are. He goes back to his origin: a place in the sea, in the Japanese countryland (salty breeze, turquoise waters, honey sand and never-setting sun.) There, he will not be discrimined because of his genetics.
This gives him determination to avoid all suicidal ideas and gives him strength to go back, riding a thousand waves

This is a wonderful song, filled with hope, that guides us to the idea that change is possible, no matter how difficult the circumstances are.
This is actually a really good interpretation based on the line *“my skin, my eyes, my ears and the world you left me are the signs you loved me”*
I felt like this Mili's song is just normal song with simple guitar, bass, and drum. There is nothing special about it but its lyrics is still Mili's sugar-coated melancholy style. The song ending with suicide is what it hit me the most.

As an Chinese Canadian, I wonder if this song is about coming to Canada. 5 x 7 is the size (ratio technically) of the photo you need for applying for permanent residency in Canada. For a lot of stuff involving planning around immigration and stuff, you might need to use Excel to calculate your chances, track what you need, etc. Funnily enough the Canadian government used excel to pick who won the immigration lottery, which wasn't really the best method.
We had to wait for years until we finally got chosen, and left to start a new life. Being a permanent resident, you're basically chained to the country if you want to stay and become a citizen. For example, 4/5th of your time over 5 years must be spent in Canada, which sounds ok until you realize you need to visit family or travel for other reasons. You basically have to document every time you leave and come back and make sure you don't go home for too long over the half decade. If you leave for too long, you lose your shot at citizenship. There are also other restrictions but this is a big one if you have family overseas.
After the restriction ends when you gain citizenship, you can do as you please. Travel anywhere for as long as you want - unless you renounce citizenship, you can keep it. When people first come to Canada, they often feel homesickness - many people really want to go back to China. Once they settle down in Canada, and finally gain the freedom to leave, they tend to stay, or use the power of the Canadian passport to travel where they please.
I was thinking exactly the same the whole time. Mili has complained before on twitter about the racism she has received now and in the past due to her race, a lot of the song seems to be kind of a cathartic middle finger to figures in her past while taking about rediscovering her roots and coming back to Asia maybe? I believe Mili currently resides on Japan.

this is such a good song to not interpret. Mili surely want us to use our heads everytime they release a song.
First stanza hit me with how he came into this world and I think his mom is a "good" person because she is excited to meet him. The 5x7 excel something is maybe how Cassie interpreted the size of a fetus. I'm not really sure since Cassie likes to throw random numbers in the lyrics like "617". Then I think the next scenario is they went to a different land, but his mommy died, because of the lyrics- "Mommy look, you are fireworks" Idk but this line sounds sinister to me so I interpreted it as death.
The second stanza. he found another family who will adopt him but with conditions, and from then on.. it sounded like a toxic relationship because of the manipulation. maybe because of what happened to his mom and his new found toxic family, he became depressed. started indulging to smoking and drinking.
Im not sure what the sea represents. maybe isolation?. he got use to isolation that he never wanted to go back and just stay there.
He tried to end his life but failed. I think he came to a realization that his life is precious because his mommy gave it to him, so he decided to be hopeful and move on. I think the Sayonara in the end is for the painful past that he left behind.
This is just my own interpretation. I've been listening to Mili for years now. They said on their livestream that they don't release statements on what the song's meaning and leave it to our interpretations and that's what Ive been doing all these years. My brain hurt but very worth it. Thank you for another wonderful song Mili!.
i see the first stanza as a description of the singer being born, the 5x7 excel sheet is a reference to how excel sheets are a collection of "cells". The surreal lines from the chorus i interpret as the singer literally being born, the part about the fireworks probably equating the act of living life to exploding or something along those lines. When the singer talks about not coming back to their motherland, they mean the inside of the mother's womb.
The second stanza, more than being adopted, I feel is the singer confronting the disconnect between those ideal words their mom had told them before being born with their dysfunctional reality, being forced to stay on one path under the threat that there was nothing outside it. The stanza finishes as the singer questions these wicked words whispered to them and sets off into the sea (more of a metaphorical sea than a literal one), taking with them only the unconditional parts of love their mom gave them ("my skin, my eyes, my ears and the world you left me are the signs you loved me").
Then the final stanza is an expression of braveness, the singer recognizing all the things that had to happen for them to be there ("im the living song of my mommy's mommy' mommy's mommy's moms) and choosing to embrace life instead of "going back" to their condition before being born: death
I would think that the 5x7 excel sheet meant the calendar, since that is the usual layout of a calendar (usually around 4 and a half week, so one'd need 5 lines worth of boxes of 7). That would mean looking at the calendar and counting down the days to childbirth.

i think in the first stanza maybe the character witnessed some kind of shooting attack in their house?? 'it hit me like a bomb [...] shooting through [...] passing a thousand stars' may be suggesting how fast the bullets were, and then momy being 'fireworks' can symbolize literally blood being splattered all over the place in small drops just like fireworks?? and they just had to evacuate so fast but still looking back at their devastated home. This is kinda dark but makes sense

最初「ＷＡＨ〜」をボ〜と口遊むイメージで聴いてたけど、今は子供が泣いてる時のイメージになった。

Is anyone else's first thought that the kid is a war refugee? "Mom, you're fireworks" sounds like a bombing or something along those lines. The kid running away and announcing they "come in peace". The new mother's over-protection bordering on cruelty, because seeing the world in these conditions would be dangerous. The fact that the video happens in the middle of the ocean, as if a place completely isolated from everything else is the only possible safe place to be. The "billion generations" it took for everything to go back to normal so that the current kid can finally live a proper life.
Such a bittersweet way to end the year, I would expect nothing else from this band. Thanks, Mili, for an amazing music-filled year, and hopefully many more to come.
Not exacly. For me it did invoke an idea of a soldier and indoctrination at first. "The billion generations it took for me to be here", hit me yet again, as a hollow realization of war as example that humanity doesn't learn from history.

@@volkolol I've listened to each and every one of them, but art is subjective, my friend, so I just happened to find this piece the weirdest. From the choice of "words" to the strange and janky animated marshmallow man-person.
I think the janky animation has its charms to it. For what I assume is Cassie’s first 3D animation, it’s surprisingly nice. A lot of detail went into this house per say that I think does its job to tell the story so I don’t mind if butt shaking mascot is back again.
Yet again give me rice is the most visually weird but interesting mili song in my opinion so maybe I’m just not too phased by it.
