How to Replace Injectors and Cups on a Volvo D13 Part 2/2
Don't forget that your injectors need to be programmed after installation. A dealer or a local shop will be able to do it. You need to write down the numbers or take picture from each injector to give to programmer. each injector has it's own number so keep the numbers in order.
    tools:
    14mm socket
    13mm socket
    18mm socket
injector cup install tool(part number in video)
    tools for injector tool
    adjustable wrench
    24mm wrench
    high pressure lube
injector for cup sealer(part number in video)
    torque wrench
    torque specs
    injector hold down 60ft lb
Rocker arms : 44ft lb large bolt and smaller rear bolt on each pair. 20ft lb+120 degree smaller front bolts. loosen rear bolts after torqing front and do 20+120 on those also. 44ft lb+120 degreesfor larger bolt (watch video for more detail)

Late reply here.I worked at a Volvo dealer for 12 years.Volvo decided to use an antiquated rocked arm unit injection system. They are trying to get 35000 psi out of the system. You cannot keep injectors and cup in the engine because the high injection pressure deforms the injector and cup to a point where the injector hold down come loose. Then you get combustion gas into the cooling system or the fuel return.Only cure is to do regular cups and injectors. On the 4th set you will need a cylinder head.

If you go to volvotrucks.us and then click on part and services tab and find where it say resources and manuals. Click on that and find a link that says visit the Volvo emedia center and click on it you can gain access service procedures. Make sure you find the latest info. So let me get this right, he puts the injector holder in with the tool and the new torque to yield bolt, he then torqued it to maximum yield then removed it and reused it, once you torque it to yield the bolt is no longer good, if you want to hold the tool in while you install the cup use the old bolt

It is the same for most trucks. remove wheels, loosen slack adjuster all the way. remove drum, remove two springs from brake shoes and they should come off. then put on new ones in reverse. of the drum doesn't come off you may need to hit it a few times with a sledge hammer on lip

Get the steel cups, if installed correctly they last alot longer than people think. I don't remember anyone in last 5 years coming back to redo cups unless head was off or injector went bad. Copper cups use different injectors as well but if your cups are bad you likely have at least a couple injectors with bad mating surface so will need replaced anyways. The tool I used is old and the push through tool came out before video. Haven't done copper cups in a long time. I think tool looks like the one in video but the swedge end has 3 swedges on it

The new style has 1 o ring because Volvo found that having 1 is better than 2 o rings , removing that first o ring allows pressure from compression to be relieved easier. Many times the first o ring would pop from to much compression. They leave the top o ring only now. I work for a Volvo Dealer

If you tighten the rocker arms to tight can it cause it to burn up the cam bearings?

This is an anaerobic sealer so it cures once it gets compressed, we give it overnight to cure but you can use a loctite brand curing compound so it cures faster, then you dont have to wait

Do you ever have problems putting plungers into exhaust valve rocker? I find the are a pig to get back in as the air cannot escape

Have you done this on a D12? Do you know how I can get access to a D12C-A MP service manual? I am getting an injector error on cylinder 1. Any suggestions?

Is there another way to diagnose injector cups? I have hard starting but I'm not seeing any bubbles in the fuel tank. Could it be build up on the crank position sensor. I was told to clean it and be sure there's no metallic build up as it makes it difficult for the sensor to see the timing marks on the flywheel.

Pump your fuel with hand pump that on fuel housing before starting. If it still takes a while to start then it could be sensor

How do you test for bad injector cups? Or fuel filter housing how to tell which one you need to replace?

    • @cardinaltruckservice3753
      @cardinaltruckservice3753  Před rokem +1

Put a clear line on cylinder head fuel line inlet. If it has bubbles then you have leak before injector cups. If clear, but bubbles in fuel tank, then injector cups. Most likely is cups but better to check
