- After selling on eBay since the late 90's, Melody and I have learned a lot an awful lot about what it takes to run an eBay business. In this video I share ten of the most important things we've learned about what it takes to have a successful eBay business.

AND...for anyone who has actually read to the bottom of the description, here's a link to the book I wrote for Melody way back on our 25th wedding anniversary. It isn't reselling related, but it's definitely about the two of us. It is light-hearted and a SUPER easy read. More fun than educational.
How To Be Married Forever: www.amazon.com/dp/1723993379 - Jak na to + styl
Scot, I'm now in my third month of reselling, have sold barely over a dozen items. I'd implemented my inventory system before I started selling; it's wkng well. Now, heres a laugh for you: with most of us here in America heading into fall and winter, I posted in my local fb group saying that I'm selling on ebay to supplement my SS retirement income, and if anyone is planning to clean out their closet(s) before Cmas, I'll gladly accept their discards. What I cant use, I'll donate to the Mission thrift store - almost an hour away, yet the closest one to our town. One lady brought me three carloads! It's good
quality clothing, but easy to understand why I'm temporarily overwhelmed! Lol.
I love it! It honestly sounds like you're off to a great start. It's a little slow right now, so your sales don't surprise me. Pay attention to what you're able to sell and keep refining that. As you do, sales will increase.
I LOVE that you thought outside the box to get some inventory! That's truly spectacular!
@pamprier4710 Along with Scott's great advice here on ChaChingKing, you might benefit from a video I just watched on YT with TechNSports recently. He and Back from Burnout sat down to evaluate her business. She, too, had received a ton of inventory at once and it overwhelmed her to the point that she cherry picked it, then left the others in piles and kept accumulating more, never dealing with the piles. TechNSports shared great wisdom on how to build a business model that fits your needs. Scott eluded to this as well. There's great truth that these guys are sharing. I know I for one am going to start implementing them today!!
Thanks again, Scott, for a great video!! Blessings!
I'm semi afraid to ask ppl for stuff. Feel like I'm freeloading, lol. Tho mission accomplished for one, I asked my friend for a tape gun he had bought for a move. He has a spare he's going to give me. 👍
@@andrewwashere82
Follow my suggestion; just tell everyone that if they're planning to clean out their closets, garage, or shed, you'll be glad to help in exchange for whatever they don't want. Trust me, they'll be grateful for your help!
Always learning from your videos. Open my store in April 2023. Im still scared of messing up. I would not be a seller without these videos to learn from. I have found a small group that has the love of teaching. You and your wife are at the top of the list ❤
You are genuinely appreciated. Thank you.
Helloo good i am from indonesia..signup 2008 not going anywhere? Whyy..now i join account businees ebay ? Only dropsgip any advissss
Coming from someone who just started selling on eBay. I really appreciate sharing all the knowledge you have gained over the years!
I truly hope you find something in this that's helpful. I'd love for you to accomplish what you hope to accomplish.
Also, thank you for saying "I'm not that guy! Lol. I've had a few days where I haven't gotten anything listed, much less 50 items. I figure that once I get into a routine, I'l be able to list 5-10 items daily. And for me, thats enough.
Exactly. We list 5-10 a day. My worst year since 2018 was right at 70k. And that was truly because I quit listing 5-10 a day and dropped to a few because of CZcams. If I quit CZcams and go back to just eBay, I make more. LOL
Hi Scot…I’m a 28 year veteran eBay seller as well! I agree with everything you said! I remember HATING when eBay made a change and sometimes I didn’t keep up with the changes and it did hurt my business to an extent. Now I go with the flow. It’s their platform and their rules. If I had a brick and mortar store, I could never bring in the income I do on eBay! EBay all the way!
Molly for the win! :-) My in-laws owned two brick and mortar stores from 1971 to 2018. And while there were many years that they generated substantial revenue, the overhead costs ate up a staggering percentage of the profits. One of the biggest benefits of ecommerce is that when you scale up, your overhead doesn't necessarily scale up the same way a brick and mortar store could.
Thanks- I’m 70- the point regarding speedy listing was so helpful. I watch 3-4 good sellers, no one ever addressed this in sync with my personality so well. Elizabeth
When I built my house, I had a couple of teams out here doing dirt work. I had a guy named Frankie who was 78. He was his own team. I also had a group of 3 guys, all in their 20's. The young guys ran around and looked really fast and busy the whole time. Not a slouch in the bunch. It seemed like they had to keep figuring out what to do next. Frankie just kept moving...slow...deliberate. You could tell Frankie knew what his next move would be from long years of weathered experience. You get one guess which "team" was FAR more productive...
I'm not the fastest. I don't have to be. I still get all of my work done even if I occasionally walk down to the tank to go fishing during lunch.
Same ladybug, same!
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial. I have just started, and had my first scammer; but, thanks to you, I knew just what to do! Very much appreciate the knowledge you share.
That is truly awesome! If we can stop even one scammer from taking advantage of someone, that's a win.
Scot you are the best teacher out there for this reselling world! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise. I learned a lot!
I truly appreciate that. I feel like there are so many people that this comes more naturally to. But I will straight up take the compliment. Thank you! You are very encouraging.
I really appreciate your videos! I am just a part timer, currently selling items I already have, buying just a few items I see at Goodwill, etc. I'm 68 years old and selling just for fun and a little profit. Unlikely I'll open a store, but you never know! Thanks again!
Man...68 doesn't sound old AT ALL to me any more. LOL What's happening to us? I rarely write checks. Rarely. But I had to write one a while back and I caught myself writing 1984 instead of 2024. Time sneaks up on us.
But, you are still out there selling things online. Good for you! That didn't even exist when we were just getting started in life.
I enjoy your advice regarding what one's mentality should be. The one part I would disagree with you is how often ebay gets it wrong.
For context, I'm an electronics seller, certified technician and metrologist, years upon years of experience,ALL my items are tested prior to being listed. Good quality listings; more transparency than 99% of the rest od the platform; I ship fast and I ship with perfect packing.
Out of, say 11 false "item doesn't work" type disputes, ebay sided with the buyer, even when the items were damaged by the buyer. I've also had different items returned to me, I provided all the evidence in the world and ebay said "to be honest we don't even look at that" (of course the next rep apologized for someone having said that) .
So out of, say 15 cases in 2 years, ebay only protected me twice. Equipment worth hundreds of dollars each and despite doing everything ebay instructed me to do step by step.
You know, I probably should have put a qualifier on that statement. Because it's vastly different in some categories. I absolutely hate selling electronics for this very reason. I can test them and KNOW what I'm selling. They get it and claim something else. You're not wrong in your categories.
What a great break down. You really nailed it. ☺ It is so true about the shipping fears. We go through life never shipping anything and then all of a sudden we feel like we have to know everything. Part of the fear is making the mistakes that cost you. I was so worried about what size of box and what the materials would weigh. All legit concerns. I solved it by having shipping at a standard size and weight at first, so that no matter what I was selling I knew it would fit within those specs. Now, after learning more about how shipping works and getting more comfortable, I am able to make great offers while knowing what size box, weights and materials I will be working with. Still more to learn but not so afraid now. ☺
Your learning journey mirrors my own. It didn't help that when I first dove into eBay, I was literally shipping lumber from my lumbermill! LOL What was I thinking!?!? Shipping is time consuming, but it isn't scary at all any more.
You are 100 percent correct about listing what you love. It is more fun/exciting listing items a person enjoys. I still find myself buying stuff that I classify as boring because it is such a good deal, but if it sits in my death pile it doesn’t make much sense to buy if I’m not going to list. Thank you for the video.
I have way more experience with this than I'd like to admit. :-)
I try to list at least 1-3 comic books a night within the two hours of downtime after work and nothing on weekends. Kinda like my free time too much to list 20+ books. Great vid, sir!
If you've got a routine like that, it'll end up being a great supplementary income. I applaud you!
Thank u for being honest ! 💯 %!!!!!!!
Thank you Scott! You're always a big help!
I really appreciate that. Thank you.
Thank you for your videos!
Great video Scott. You always keep me positive ❤❤

As always - very valuable and useful information. Thanks for everything you do for the reselling community!
I appreciate that! I really do. I don't ever take kind comments for granted. Thank you.
Subscribed! Great video. I can tell you put a lot of effort into it
I really appreciate that. I'm fairly slow at editing. I try to do things well enough that the video doesn't get in the way of the information. I'm still working at it. 😀
Great video!! Thanks so much!!💙
Glad you liked it!!
Thank you for yet another great video. Always enjoy watching and learning from you as I build my business. 😊
Thank you! I hope you find some of the content useful. :-)
Extremely good solid advice ❤
I truly appreciate that. Thank you.
Thank you SO much for all your help. I look forward to each video learn so much each time!
I really appreciate that. Thank you
Very helpful, thanks for sharing 👍🏻💕
Sending gratitude for your positive attitude.
Thank you so much. :-)
Always learning each day in my eBay business. Great video & tips . 💯 Agree with have a inventory system from the very beginning!
Thanks for watching and commenting! The day I stop learning is the day I need to retire from this business.
Great video Scott. I'm definitely guilty of a few of these but I'm getting better each day and I'm loving the journey.
I've been guilty of all of them. :-)
i needed this talk so much. overbuying, speed, efficiency, the only thing constant is change, creating an inventory system that not only helps me find what i'm looking for but also doesn't make me feel cluttered and that honors my space, going to follow those resellers you mentioned! youtube is suggesting a video with you and it caught my eye - "How Cha Ching King went from homeless to 3k a week on Ebay."
if you can do this.... I can pull myself up too. i can do this!!
100%! You can do this. You really can.
Thank you🙏🏻 I have learned so much from you. My uncle who wanted to start eBay, I shared a lot of your videos with him 😊
I hope some of these prove helpful to you guys. I really do.
This is a great video! Good job!
Thank you!
Simply...you are awesome!
Wow, thank you!
you're the first channel i've seen emphasizing roi over speed of listing per day! I'm slow too and appreciate your video!
I'm slower than molasses in January. Focusing on ROI has been a much better business model for me than hyper-efficient listing processes.
Im just starting out and ur videos are really helpful to me
This comment is literally the reason I make these kinds of videos. I truly want them to be helpful. So, your comment is very encouraging. Thank you.
Hi Scot, I've been watching your videos for some time now. I wanted to say thank you so much for the knowledge and advice you always share. your videos are truly encouraging and I have gained so much great insight from you. Wishing you all the success in your eBay business and your CZcams channel, Thanks again🙏
That is truly, truly nice to hear. If I can encourage people, then all the videos are worth it. Thank you.
Every time you two make a new video it becomes my favorite 😂 So much great info and truth behind the info. Im new to flipping, less than a year and can already relate to everything you just said. This is more work than an actual shop I had many years ago and it is no less work than the regular full time job I have now. I love it tho. A joke at home is how I love to ship my pants 🙄😂 oh, and the over buying! Boxes on top of boxes of unlisted inventory 🤬 Thanks for the lead on the Flipping Accountant, needed that. Thank you and the Mrs. again for all you do.
We truly appreciate you being here. Thank you so much.
The inventory management part sounds like the most fun to me, lol. Like a visual reminder that I'm running a business, plus I play video games and really enjoy resource management types.
OH NO! My LEAST favorite part. LOL
@TheChaChingKing
I'm already daydreaming about each container being designated to a niche item if my inventory is varied. Like I have so many DVDs & games, they could have their own box to be stored in.
I loved everything about this video. Everything.
That it such a nice thing to say. Thank you!
Great vid
Thank you so much
best overall video of ebay selling I have ever seen.. love the fact you tell the truth..#1 is the most important..
Thank you so very much. I truly want the videos to be helpful. If it's all exaggeration and fluff, I wouldn't actually be very helpful.
Spot on Scot!
Thank you, Sue!
Great info, Scott!! One of the nuggets that challenged me was "keep your business fit." Just as we need to care for our bodies so they will perform at maximum function, our businesses need to as well. There's a lot I need to do in both areas! LOL Thanks for the wisdom shared! Blessings! ~Wendy
Me too, Wendy. I hope I don't ever sound like I'm doing everything perfect. Almost everything I know I seem to have learned the hard way. LOL
New eBay seller. New listener and new subscriber. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share your knowledge with us.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for yet another great teaching tool for my tool box! I am yet to start selling on Ebay because we are in the middle of the long arduous task of trying to buy a home. Where I live now is way to small so we are looking for a home that will have space so I can properly run my business. I watch all of your videos and have them on a special list that way I can refer back to them when the time is right. Again, thank you 😊
You can do it! Good luck on the house hunt. I hope you find exactly what you are looking for at a price that works for you. :-)
I really enjoy your videos as well and find them helpful. I've been selling on Ebay since early spring part time. I have found it kind of unsettling every time I run across something that I never encountered before and scramble around trying to figure out what exactly I should do or not do. Much of the information provided in your videos have really gone a long way in helping me right from the beginning. Thank you much!
That is awesome! I truly appreciate the encouraging words. I want the videos to be helpful.
This was a great video. Excellent tips -Oliver
Hey, thanks, Oliver! I really appreciate it.
I REALLY appreciate these videos and your clear, friendly and educated guidance...sense of humor SELLS! Ha! TY~
Thank you so much. I'm still learning how to create the videos. They aren't where I want them to be, but they aren't where they were either.
You’re the best Scot!
I hope that you know how much I appreciate you and all you do for this community.
Scot, I'm currently in week 2 and it's been awesome. I wanted to thank you for the sage advise you've provided in your videos.
I genuinely want to be helpful. But, you need to pat yourself on the back. YOU are the one who decided to get started. YOU! You get all the credit. Good for you!!!
Oh my Gosh! I hit every one of your points! I put myself on restriction and not shopping for another thing until I get all things listed. Still trying to figure out what I like to sell. I quickly ruled out clothes and shoes. I’ve listed junk just because I bought it… you get my point 😂😂 Thanks for the video all about me 😜😜
I guess I feel better than I'm not all alone. LOL
Authentic on point video. It is far more work then people realize and takes time to find your niche and refine sourcing skills. Thank you for affirmation that it’s okay to not list 50 a day and have thousands of listings! I want to stay small with better items.
I applaud the people that can find, list and sell 50 items a day. I really do. If that business model works for them, that's awesome. It will never work for us. It just won't. It isn't that we aren't capable of it. It's just that I never wanted to build a business around a lifestyle that I have NO desire to maintain.
If I'm going to recommend people build their own business, the number one rule has to be to build a business that helps give you the life you want to live.
Great breakdown video for both new and veteran sellers. 20yr seller on ebay and youre right about the changes. I griped too but the platform has come a long way. International shipping via a hub is one good example. Still working on keeping the death pile down to a minimum :)
I haven't completely escaped the death pile, either.
Thank you Scott for these videos, I haven't started selling yet but am soaking up all the information so when I start I will feel more prepared.
I truly hope you find some of these helpful and encouraging.
With you as our teacher I can't go wrong, Have a great day!

Oh really?! That is encouraging. How long before you went from watching videos and thinking about it to actually doimg it?
Fear of failure and/or not knowing what to do is holding me back. I'm trying to learn as much as I can. But at the same time, I can't afford to be sitting on the fence about this.
I bet we watched videos for 2 years before we made the jump from selling as a hobby to treating it like a business. Our business is just built on roi and not speed.
@TheChaChingKing
Wow, well, I'm gonna need a goal to at least get started: listing, sell, package & ship at least by the end of next...week. Yea, that seems realistic. We'll again, thanks for your videos and responding to my constant messages, lol. ✌️
You sir are awesome
That is so very kind of you. Thank you so much.
I can relate with everything you mentioned in this video I have so much stuff that I will probably never list just because I thought I had to buy everything that would make a profit. You are spot on with this video. Thank you so much. I really appreciate what you do.
I almost didn't put the video out. I always feel like I haven't really covered anything helpful. So, your comment is really, really encouraging.
@@TheChaChingKing I have yet to watch one of your videos that wasn’t encouraging or motivational or very informative. They’re all great and you my sir are awesome thank you.
I’ve been laughing.. I should have watched this a year ago 😂 I’ve made so many mistakes… I have a huge stock inventory.. so many things to list…..
Yes! The changes!!!! Ugh... since '98 here! I taught myself code to ue HTML & have a fancy listing... lol. I know so much has changed, and that's why I'm here😊. Thanks
Some where out there in cyberspace is my old Prodigy web page. I did a lot of woodworking and learned enough HTML to create my own website. I could still find it until about 10 years ago. But, I think all of the Prodigy stuff is gone now.
I like your attitude
I appreciate that. Thank you.
Late to the party but I AGREE. eBay has been super supportive and helpful to me as both a buyer and seller!
100% Nothing is perfect. But eBay has been outstanding for us.
You are so correct. We just started selling on eBay and we buy primarily from yard sales and we have a lot of items to list. As luck would have it, I pulled a ham string and I’m having trouble getting around well enough to take photos. It has slowed me down so much.
OH NO! I had a partial tear of my hamstring about 20 years and 50 pounds ago. I used to be able to sprint fairly quickly. It was after school let out one day and I was on bus duty. Some of the high school kids were playing catch and they shouted at me to cover someone. I took off...two steps...POP. It was about a year and a half before I could walk without thinking about it anymore. And I can't imagine trying to sprint today. Just mentally, I don't think I could. I 100% feel your pain and hope yours isn't as lingering as mine was.
Wow this video was really validating. Because I’ve been trying to speed it up and it’s taking the fun out of it. I’m so much of a perfectionist I guess I’ve been trying to fight against that. And I am learning what to buy the problem is I already had so much from past yard sales we’ve hadthat’s things I would not buy now. And it’s taken up all my space. I literally have no more corners that I can use lol
I try to make videos that are real life for Melody and me... stuff we've really been through and learned. That's a fancy way of saying I have WAY overbought! 😀
I’ve so far watched two of your videos and have been encouraged by both of them, so thank you! I’ve been for awhile now in over my head as far as what I allowed myself to buy and have not gotten listed. Quite an embarrassing thing for me, but that’s where I found myself. It was so encouraging to me to hear somebody that has had success say that this is an incredibly easy thing to have happen. Thankfully, I have been chipping away at the piles and have been much more selective about what I buy, so progress has been made. It was just nice to hear that I’m normal-ha ha!
I promise you, you are not alone. It is extremely common to end up with far more than you planned on. You just have to whittle things down. Don't be afraid to bless someone else with the things you aren't going to list either. Things that we bought to help free us can make the cages for a new prison if we hold on to them too tightly.
@@TheChaChingKing yes, that is something I’ve thought about too. And an accurate description! Thank you, and God bless you guys!
I have a very difficult time resisting the urge to "buy" although I haven't posted my first listing, lol. I share your feeling that it's comforting to know that we're not alone. aka :misery loves company", lol?
Wish I’d seen this video 3 years ago. Definitely over bought early on, trying to get up to 1,000 listings for a specific % sales. Now I know better thankfully. 👍
When I present things in a video is almost always because I've made that exact mistake. When I first started, I bought everything that still had tags. Route 66 NWT tshirt? Bought it. 😆
Hey Scot: Another great teaching video...after 20 years on eBay I'm still learning some thing every day...however one of the "MY" favorite things to do is shipping...yes I know not everyone really likes shipping, however once you master shipping it might become your favorite thing. The reason is once the item ships my work is 99% done. My secret>>>is to know how you are going to ship an item before you list it. In most cases (large items) I will pre-box my item once I have listed it, so its ready to ship the moment it sells, this way I know the size of the box and how much it weights so there is no surprises. You hit on many points that I have learned over the years...My favorite point is to list something every day, pick a number that work for you. Thanks again for all you do...keep up the great work.
Such a thoughtful comment. I truly appreciate it. I wish I knew a different way to phrase it so that it didn't sound so canned...but I truly appreciate it.
Thank you both! I’m only 2 months into this and working full time elsewhere but felt like I need to start now building a 2nd income for when I turn 65 in 1 1/2 yrs. You’ve been so very kind and helpful. I’m learning so much but after watching your “favorite sales” I now see this in a different light. ❤️ one question can your direct me to a video that shows me how to refund someone for partial shipping. Per your example! Buyer paid $22 and it only cost me $10. Thank you for being such a blessing to so many!!
czcams.com/video/QtUVfJBj2UM/video.html
This video was for combined shipping, and I showed exactly how to make a partial shipping refund. Maybe it will help.
Thank you SO very much for the kind words.
Remember Mr. Lister? I loved the templates! Long time ago... nice video.😊 5:05
Your videos are GREAT!
We have been eBay sellers for about 4 years. I am retired and my wife quit her job after about a year into our eBay business. I can tell you that we make more money than my wife did at her job BUT we work more hours. And we BOTH work at it.
We ENJOY the work more, at least so far.
I would caution people getting into this to place your own limits on your time, or you will be working 18 hours a day, 7 days a week...and it doesn't pay THAT well!
You speak the truth! EBay will fill whatever time and space you allow it to fill. It expands like a gas. 😆 Creating limits for eBay keeps it from completely overtaking your life.
I'm in fear like your saying, but thank you for your words of wisdom 👋
If I can do this, you can do this.
I’m planning on starting selling on ebay in January, and I’m terrified of shipping since I sell on poshmark and is so easy to ship. I’ve subscribed to your chanel and been watching all your videos, they are extremely helpful. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much! Don't be fearful. It's harder than Poshmark, but it's much cheaper for lighter items. You could literally set everything to Ground Advantage and charge $5.99 under 12 ounces, $6.99 up to one pound and $9.99 up to 2 pounds. You may miss some, but not by much.
@@TheChaChingKing This comment is SO VERY HELPFUL! In addition to your great video, that it!
I love your videos. They are always so helpful and inspiring. And yes, shiiping is keeping me from even starting but I so really want to. 🥴💕
Just pick one thing. Has the mailing supplies ready. And if you make a mistake and lose a couple dollars? Great! Very inexpensive education. Move on to the second.
You've got this!
Thanks
yes, i need to delve into the business/tax part allot further , i do know a little but not enough. I have two phone numbers in my wallet that will lead to private pics just through conversations at local yard sales, its time to do just that as we sure have a way of procrastinating and that's never a good trait in business. Thanks for the lead on Justin !
Justin is a great guy that I've met personally.
Go get those private picks!!! I'm waiting on a call myself that could potentially lead to a new one. I'm BEYOND excited when I get those calls.
So much great info in this video, Scot. I've been selling on eBay since 2000, so 23 years, and I've had a very similar experience when it comes to changes. Of course we rarely like change, especially when you're used to how things work and you've got it down pat. But I agree that eBay is a stronger, more dynamic platform now than it was back in the day. Do they get everything right? Nope. But I do think they want sellers to succeed, because that's the only way that the platform will succeed. The truth is, eBay gives me a global reach that I would never have if I sold from a brick & mortar store or tried to sell from my own website.
I couldn't agree with you anymore than I do. The amount of eyes on our products is staggering when compared to what we could ever get trying to do this without the eBay platform.
So true!!!!! We were so excited first week of sourcing since we found good deals. This week has been blah 😑 lol but I still love the search. Only in week 4 off selling lol 😂
It is addicting! LOL. Trust me, I know.
congratulations on being on ebay since 1999! i've been on it since 2000-Present.
How are there that many years in the rear view mirror!? Doesn't seem real.
Great content! I started in 2005 but only started taking my biz seriously 7 years ago. I’m guilty of a lack of inventory mgmt! 😑 not finding a sold item is THE worst! Now trying to get a system going now is taking a lot of time! I’ll rewatch! Thank you!
We are practically twins. :-)
@@TheChaChingKing what is your eBay store name?
The account I use for creating the videos is ChaChingKing. I have some merch available there, but never really try to sell any of it. The account I've had forever is Oldschoolwear @@SM-ot7kb
@@TheChaChingKing I notice in some of your listings you use a “collage” of pics as your main photo. Do you use an ap to achieve this look? Thank you,
I use an app called InShot @@SM-ot7kb
Good video. Tfs...
Thanks for the visit
Not that I am a true professional, but this was a very well done video on youtube and agree with with 90% of what was said…. (The 10%) I love the shipping end and enjoy the perfect packing of an item and treat it like I want to recieve it.
Thank you SO much! I am still learning the whole CZcams thing. I am really working at trying to create helpful videos that are edited well enough to not interfere with the message.
I think we do a great job of packing and shipping. But, it's not my favorite part of this business. I think my favorite part is talking to people. Melody and I pulled up to a "sale" just last week. Mel waited in the car and there was someone walking away as I walked up. "They aren't open yet." he said to me as he walked by. It was a Thursday and they weren't opening until Friday. 20 minutes later I was leaving with an amazing haul and an invitation to come back to see things they weren't putting in the sale. I can talk to people. THAT'S my favorite part. :-) The beauty in building our own businesses is that we can capitalize on our strengths.
Again, I truly appreciate the kind words. Thank you.
Me too! I love the shipping side of my business...my son asked me once, what was the very best packing job of an item that you have sold on eBay...I said...every item (like you) I pack every item like I would want to received it...many cases I over do it, and it doesn't matter if it sold for $5 or $100, customers have given me many compliments on how an item was packed...best feeling...😊
Great video no body else laying it as easy as you do, regarding shipping would please consider showing heavy items that are expensive example framed paintings or statues and my regards to Mrs scout
Thank you! If we ship some heavy items in the near future, I'll try and record it.
LOL great advice! Thx for info on tax guy, i definitely need the advice. When i called 3 different accountants they said come back when you make over $30,000. I'll need to put in a lot more work for that to happen😊
I didn't mention it in the video, but Faith and Paul who have @MyResellerGenie & myresellergenie.com are awesome people. They are also resellers and Faith has a bookkeeping service.
As a part time seller I don't have the pressure that comes with a full time sellers. We have been doing this for almost a year now, and may get more involved as we are a couple years away from retirement. We have always went to yardsales anyway, and just decided to start picking up things to resell since we were already at the sale. It's been a learning process for sure, but the number one thing we have come to realize sure it's work, but Ebay isn't that hard IF you live in a great sourcing area...thats the key. If you don't live in a good area to source you will have to drive to survive.
It has been a great supplemental income.
Hi Scot 🎉 bravo on this list of 10 and you’d think after 5 years of hobby reselling, I would have LEARNED all these. Alas, I still overbuy and I buy profitable stuff that I hate listing so there it sits 😹😹
Lol...all of these are on here because I've learned them the hard way.
Damn, another great video. As far as people complaining about selling on Ebay, I will take the word of a 25 year veteran, over any young 4 month noob. I am 4 and half years in, and I have had no issues having problems solved. What are your thoughts on International Shipping program vs Global shipping? If a video exists, I did not see it sorry. Keep up the great work sir.
I put out a brief one when they were making the switch. In my opinion, the new program is far superior. Not ever getting returns or bad feedback is a major win.
Fantastic video! I've pressured and put myself down for so long because I'm slow at listing. Thank you for being the one of the very few who say just be you. It's such a relief to know there is someone else out there like me and still successful!
Remember, the world is full of people who are ready to put you down. Make sure you aren't one of them. You deserve better. You can do this.
@@TheChaChingKing That's very kind! Thank you for the reminder 🙂
So true!!!! I feel like you were reading my mind. Lol
THANKS!
I've been on and off Ebay since the beginning, as well. I have always been able to list fast and get the items sold fast. Today, however, there is so much to add to the listings which makes my listing much slower (or maybe it's my 72 yo age? Ha!} Thanks for this info - very good, as usual!
It's not your age. LOL While it's improved, the item specifics has really been a time suck for me.
Hi Scott! I didn't run away and disappear!! I haven't checked in , in a while. My full year Anniversary, full time on eBay is in January. Right now I have 315 items listed. Whew!! I am selling every day! It's working like a charm! It's all because of you and your guidance.! My goal is 500+ items. Thank you! One error I've made is the SKU..I have tubs, Tee Shirts by color, Indian Native Am large and small bins, misc, small items, woman's tops, fine China tubs.. I know this is going to get me in trouble.. but am not sure how to switch over. Have 100% Good Feedback!
Also, when you sell an item, how and where do I find the SKU I've put in. I will put where it is, but can't find the SKU when I sell. This morning, I've been listening to you and learning. Inventory management.. Thank you so much for your guidance and help! Because of you, I'm a Happy, successful eBay seller! Paula XXXOOO
You are killing it!!! OK...and far as switching over your inventory system, just make one new tub...like A1. Then A2 etc....B1, B2. Slowly put all of the new things in those tubs. You will quickly make the tubs outside of that inventory system obsolete as those items sell and leave. Just don't refill those tubs.
Thank you! I'll start doing that!

Haha! Yes, I suspect that we both saw the same youtuber. Or perhaps others are now also "claiming" to start over. But I spent 25 years as a single parent raising my 4 kids, TOTALLY by myself... so I learned to pivot quickly when necessary (physically as well as logistically, when I had toddlers underfoot! Lol.) All 4 kids have turned out to be very open-minded, contributing members of society. And now I'm able to pursue MY dreams. 😁
Good for you! It has been an amazing adventure getting to complete reinvent myself after I retired. I feel like I'm just getting started.
@@TheChaChingKingHahaha! Me too! It's being fun, despite obstacles.
I agree with you on the shoes. I reluctantly ventured into shoes this summer after watching so many resellers killing it with shoes. I haven’t found it enjoyable or that profitable plus dislike the handling of and cleanup. It’s kind of gross! Not saying won’t ever pick up a pair but just not my thing.
I've talked to several of the people who sell shoes. And I've sold shoes. In fact, I met Melody when I was managing a Footaction store in 1985! There's tons of shoes available and a ton of money to be made. But, I just don't want to spend my time selling shoes. My Al Bundy days are over. :-)
I had a long time fear of shipping International because of prices & customs. It's not that hard after doing it many times!
I waited YEARS before I finally decided to do it. YEARS
Great videos. I have a package that shows delivered in their mailbox. They said they never got. What should I do?
If they opened a case on ebay, just upload the tracking number that shows it as delivered. Send them a note and ask them to check with their local postal carrier. They literally had to have it in their hands to scan it. Be professional. Be kind and polite. But eBay should back you up if you shipped it to the address they had in ebay. You should be good.
