AND...for anyone who has actually read to the bottom of the description, here's a link to the book I wrote for Melody way back on our 25th wedding anniversary. It isn't reselling related, but it's definitely about the two of us. It is light-hearted and a SUPER easy read. More fun than educational.
How To Be Married Forever: www.amazon.com/dp/1723993379 - Jak na to + styl
Using 3 day shipping when first staring is the best. Why? Maybe you you don’t have the right box size, or packing materials, what ever. You have that handling time. But remember this one thing "under promise and over perform." If you ship the same day your item was purchased and send it off that day, the customer is always surprised when they get it early. Buy doing that you have over performed what was promised. And your reviews will reflect that. Of course packing properly and all that too.
Amen. It's just such a stress reliever. You have time to get things together. You can ask someone a question. You've got time to think.
“Slicker than butter on a bald monkey” made me laugh so hard while I was eating and just about choked 😅
Lol... don't get choked up!
As others mention- yes shipping is very intimidating for whatever reason. I have a gigantic stack of things I need to list, and have been doing anything and everything to fix up my office area including making a light box, procrastinating because of shipping 😅
I have a huge box of Xbox games to start with… then on to all the random stuff.
I genuinely understand. Shipping gets much easier with even a little bit of experience.
Shipping has been the most intimidating part of reselling for me. Thank you so much for your video! It has been the best at explaining the process clearly.
Glad it was helpful!
Holy GEEz. this is one of the most informative videos i found about ebay selling. This is one of my biggest fears of selling. Second being returns and subsequent negative feed back. Thanks for not being word soup or asmr.
LOL "word soup" I appreciate that. I really am just trying to make videos that people find helpful. So, you comment is very encouraging. Thank you.
Scott, I have been using Ebay since 1998 but just started "reselling" in 2023, I love watching your instructional videos to refresh my memory and make changes to my selling practices. I appreciate your precise and no nonsense explanations, beginners are fortunate there are folks like you having their backs. ♥
That is such a nice thing for you to take the time to say. I appreciate you.
Finally listed my first item 😀 Your video has helped so much!!! Thank you a bunch 👍👍👍👍😀😀😀
Look at you go! You've got this!
Thanks, Scott! Love to you & Melody ❤🕊
Thank you for this video. I'm new to ebay. Not a full time seller, but part time. I was struggling g with shipping and not familiar with the eBay shipping label. I was scared that it'd cost a lot more.
It is definitely cheaper to buy your label on eBay than at the post office. Ebay has negotiated much better rates. It will get easier. It really will.
Scott, thanks for sharing this info. Your videos have helped me get started selling on EBay. You have a gift for helping others .
I truly appreciate that.
Thank you !
Im about to start selling a pretty large collection of toys. I know I may be over preparing but ive spent a few months just planning out photos, packaging and storage. I decided to go with recording everything in a spreadsheet, documenting the photos, weight and assign everything a unique ID number. Ill add items to the spreadsheet as I photo and tag them with an Identifier. Ill pre pack immediately after photos are taken, match the ID number to the boxes and store my packed items in a tote so they can ship immediately when sold without having to pack orders on the fly. If people buy a bulk lot then I just put those smaller boxes in a larger box. Now I just need the time to implement any of that. 🤣🤣
I'm just not that organized. LOL It would definitely make shipping easier. The only thing to plan for in this scenario is customer questions. If the packages are sealed and you have to take it out...that's a pain. I know from experience. So, when I do pack things up, ready to go, I never seal them anymore.
Awesome thank you so much 😊
Your videos are always so helpful! Thanks Scott!
I'm still learning how to create videos, but I feel like they are improving. So, thank you!
thank you.. this was a huge help.
That's exactly what I hope to hear. Thank you.
Thank you for share !!!
I include free shipping, (and 1 day) I think it helps get a top seller badge, and if you get multiple orders you can really save some money. If shipping wasn’t included, for multiple orders people would expect combined shipping costs.
All true. 100%
Thanks!
Absolutely helpful and so easy to follow. Thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much!!! 🎉❤
So VERY HELPFUL as always . THANK YOU for sharing the knowledge you have obtained with your experience.❤😊❤😊
I appreciate that!
Thank you for these videos, so helpful !!!
You're so welcome!
Can you go back in and just change the name of the shipping policy without editing the entire policy ?@@TheChaChingKing
thank you
Hi Scot. I just posted my first listing on ebay. Your videos have been priceless. Thank you... Thank you for all the great info and tips.
Congrats on getting started! I appreciate the kind words, too.
Great information! Like always!

Thank you!
Thank you for all your videos. Im using what I learned from your videos to properly setting up my store. will be live on 4-15-24
You've got this!
Great video I’m new to your channel ! We use to be power sellers on eBay back in the early days of eBay and have about 3500 100% feedback with 4200 items sold but we have been out of it for years and are jumping back in. Thanks for all of your help ! Just listed the first item after I watched your shipping video. That’s the part I worried about the most. Thanks again !
I bet it won't take you long to adjust at all! You've got this
You are the best! Engaging and easy to understand. I learned about you thru Kat TNF.
I genuinely appreciate you coming by! Kat has just been more than supportive of me.
I sold on eBay from 2005 to 2011. I just started back a few months ago. A lot has changed so this video as well as others you've posted have been very helpful. Thanks.
I hope it proves helpful if you start back up. 😀
Good tutorial
Thanks for this! I mostly sell trading cards and I had no idea I could set a policy for shipping to select so that'll save me a lot of time.
Hurray! I hope it proves helpful.
Excellent video. I wish I had it when I first started. Learned from a lot of mistakes initially. If you sell on other platforms I would love to see you show the differences with the shipping in each. They all are set up differently and it helps others to know the differences. Mercari has me confounded with their rates. I changed everything to free shipping and up charged the prices because it wasn’t making sense to me Thanks for your excellent informative videos. ❤

That's a video I made showing the shipping process on several different platforms. :-)
Got the 1,000th like!! Thanks for the video!
Awesome! Thank you! 1000? I don't ever watch that number. That's encouraging. :-)
I appreciate and subscribed
Thank you for this!! I made my first sale and shipping scares me 😬
You got this! It will get SO much less stressful after you ship one
I don't sell high volume. Don't own a printer. I was hand writing the labels at first but finally figured out how to do the QR code. Super easy.
I first used the QR code on a day that my electricity was out. I was able to make my shipments on my phone using the QR codes!
@@TheChaChingKing And I love that I don't have to manually fill in the tracking number!
THANK YOU for another great video! Your explanations are always clear and helpful to so many! We live in the North Eastern US. I would love to try to come up with a flat rate for my items under 12oz but prices can vary so much due to being far from many states. I tend to get a lot of buyers from West Coast. Flat rate probably not an option for me? Appreciate your thoughts!
That's definitely harder. You could set the flat rate at the CA destination. You'd always have the option of refunding the difference if it was way off. As long as that shipping rate wasn't so high that it killed your sales.
Thank you for the kind words!
Bought two OffNova printers for each computer. Excellent price and no issues.
I may have to try one. I'd like to find a cheaper alternative for new resellers.
Hey Scot love your videos you inspired me to make my own videos as well I uploaded my first video last night.
AWESOME! I'll have to go check it out.
THIS WAS THE BEST VIDEO! I'm locked and loaded. THANK YOU GOOD SIR!
I hope it proves helpful. You can do this!
I’m in Hawaii, so I’m already far from the US continent. I think flat rate (probably not priority) ground advantage makes sense. But I might do free shipping knowing my item has to include shipping. What do you think? This is scary, but I think you’re right - a little experience will lead to confidence. Thank you for this!
If you do flat rate or free shipping from Hawaii, I'd probably use a shipping calculator and use something like New York as the destination. That should give you a number that's pretty close to as expensive as it would get. And, of course, compare the USPS Priority Flat Rate options, too. Use things like the padded flat rate envelope and see how much those would cost.
@@TheChaChingKing I will! Thank you for your advice!
Thanks for the video. Does anybody ever come back to you and argue they paid to much for shipping? (Meaning you charged for 8 x 8 x 8 box, but you sent it in a 8 x 4 x 4 box instead and shipping was cheaper of what you charged them).
No, I don't ever get that. I don't display the cost on the label. And, if the weight was the same, an 8x8x8 box doesn't cost any more to ship than an 8x8x4. The size of the box can make a box difference once you pass up one cubic foot, though. Probably the biggest reason I don't get that is because, if the charge was much more than the cost of shipping, I typically refund the difference without the customer ever having to ask.
Another question sir - As a seller would it be bad to change the calculated shipping rate to STANDARD so buyers don’t get a discount on shipping? Also what about handling fee? Is that bad?
The thought of selling on eBay has been completely overwhelming for me but your videos are great and you teach very well. I do have one question though. If I wanted to list as shipping free, would I still have to mess with shipping policies? and if so, what do I have to do?
You can still create one for Free Shipping. I did make a video for making one for Ground Advantage. The steps are very similar regardless of the shipping method.
czcams.com/video/EODgaSNx0Ew/video.html
I love your videos. My brain can understand them! My question is how do you determine if you should give a percentage of your eBay shipping discount to your customers. I've heard some say give them 15 percent. What do you think? Thanks!
I'm usually charging either the same that I've paid for the shipping label, or even a little less. So, it's really not something I think about.
super good information .thank You I am wondering how to pack and send single penny ???
Interesting. If it's worth selling, I'm ship it in something insured. So, Ground Advantage or Priority. If it's under $20, I'd ship it with eBay's Standard Envelope. Coins are allowed for that.
@@TheChaChingKing thank You it help
Great Video! Lots of helpful tips. But I have a question: If you are never late in shipping, does that mean that you have to assign someone to handle shipping of an item if you go on vacation? How does that work?
You could sign someone to ship for you. But I typically put my store on vacation mode and then I'm not required to ship until I get home.
I had no idea business policies was even a thing so your video is super helpful. Unfortunately I don’t have the option the add a cost to ship like you do (next to the services drop down). This seems odd…is there something else I’m supposed to do?
You do have to make sure you've selected Flat: Same Cost To All Buyers. If it's on Calculated, it won't let you add a cost. Is that what's going on?
@@TheChaChingKing maybe. I must have missed a step while trying to do my own while watching your video. I’m betting it’s operator error 😅 Thanks for replying!
I dont have all those options under my ebay. Only seller dashboard and subscriptions are my only options.
Make sure you have opted in to the Seller Hub
Great information! Would you be able to share the sizes of the boxes you use the most? Thank you!
I like an 8 inch by 8 inch by 4 inch box. I have an affiliate link for them in my description. :-)
@@TheChaChingKing thank you very much!
I love your videos and have learned a lot but still having a hard time getting started. Shipping scares me! I think I am confusing what I will charge the customer for shipping and what I will actually pay eBay for shipping So I can set up flat rate to charge the buyer and it may cost me less or more when I pay for the eBay label. Or, I can do calculated shipping and charge a little bit more added to the actual shipping to cover my supply costs and the total of those two amounts will be both what I charge the buyer and what I pay eBay? Is that correct? Thank you for all of your practical, no-fluff content!
I think you understand it better than you give yourself credit for. You've got this!
I sure wish I’d bought a scale with the display extension. It’s a problem I never thought about when I purchased it cause I didn’t know 🤷♀️
I love the Accuteck scale we have. But it's hard to imagine working without the display extension now that I have it.
Just checking today, it seems usually that ground advantage is the better way to go. I’m not entirely clear when you would use flat rate over that ??
I would use a Priority flat rate when it's an expensive item. It's a bit faster and a bit easier trip. So, if I was shipping a $150 jacket, I'd probably use Priority.
Hi Scott, thank you for the informative video. I’m not too far from you so can you tell me what your flat rate charge is for the small flat rate box, medium flat rate box, and the large flat rate box? Thank you!!
I THINK the small flat rate box is around $7 (I haven't used one in a while), the Priority flat rate medium box costs me $14. And I think the large is $18 (again...I haven't used it in a while).
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you!!!
I haven't started selling yet but plan on it, so I appreciate your videos so much. I am a little lost on the section where you mention 'mistakes'. How is there a possibility of overpayment/underpayment?Thanks.
Let's say I ship an item and I pay for 12 ounces. But it actually weighed 15 ounces, and I had just messed up. I would have underpaid for shipping. By the same token, let's say the package was 12 ounces, but I accidentally typed 21 ounces. I would have way overpaid.
Thank you for explanation!@@TheChaChingKing
Follow-up question: Who is catching the weight difference - USPS? Do they in turn charge or refund the difference to Ebay who then passes it on to you?
When putting a one or two day shipping time, do Sundays count since Post offices are not open?
No, it's only business days.
I have some existing shipping policies but when I created new ones, it skewed my old policies and moved all my listings around to the incorrect policy. Still trying to figure out how to work it out. It is a defect on eBay that others have complained about as well. Just something to keep in mind for others
Oh! Interesting! I had not heard that or seen it. But, it doesn't shock me. Thanks for the heads up.
How do I ship magazines, books and paper materials? Also I recently sold a small hoodie zippered jacket and it charged my customer $18.02 and my cost was $13.92 from AZ to NY. I used a poly bag which was 10x12. I am stunned that it cost that much to mail this pkg which weighed 4 ozs. Anyway, shipping is still a hard one for me but I'm pushing thru it even though it still scares me. I just don't really understand the best way to ship things but I'll get it worked out. Love all your videos and your willingness to share all your info. Thank you.
I have a video on media mail that is applicable to books and paper. But, for the most part, you could put Ground Advantage on almost every item and be ok. Even a padded flat rate envelope would be cheaper than what your customer was charged.
But it will get easier. You can do this
How do you ship a patch with ebay standard env. Do you put a piece of cardboard a round it or use a cardboard postcard env. I worry about it being to thick. Thanks
I'm just using the ebay envelope. It's kind of a thick, heavy paper stock. So far, all of them have made it without any issue.
www.ebay.com/itm/386547869900?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=xQ1Xc3X9Qxu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=3TmI4nj4Tk2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Hi Scott, I followed along with your video and set the same shipping policies as you showed. I then came across the USPS Postal Explorer that lists shipping rates. Sadly, I am more confused than I was before. It tells me that a flat rate envelope 12.5 x 9.5 is 9.85. It also states that USPS Ground Advantage-Retail charges from $5 to $8 for under 1 lb (I assume this is for calculated). I am confused where the $5.99 came from. I am guessing it comes from experience of shipping things? Also, can you tell me the difference between retail and commercial? I can't find a definition of terms on the Postal Explorer. I also want to say thank you so much for what you do, your experience and knowledge are priceless, thank you for sharing, you are much appreciated!
Yes, the $5.99 is just a guesstimate on my end. I should have been clearer. With my flat rate prices, I just try to get relatively close. If it's a little bit high or low, I don't worry about it. Does that make more sense?
Nice video but can you also make small clip or explanation video how you give it to usps or any other shipping method physically and how it works how they charge it. Thanks ❤
I have videos showing me dropping off the items. BUT, once you've bought your label from eBay and put it on your package, you aren't paying the post office anything else. The money they charge for shipping comes out of the money you paid for the label. So, you aren't giving them anything else when you drop it off. You just drop it off.
Don't know if everybody has this service but I have the post office pick up at the house. I get the order, I package it up, I put the label on it and schedule USPS pick up online. I place it on my front porch and when the mailman comes, package gone. Saves me from having to drive to the post office and drop it off.
@@joycedudzinski9415 Are you still buying the shipping through Ebay as Scott is suggesting while having the mailman pick it up?
If I use ground advantage will the shipping fee be charged/deducted through the item i sold through ebay or do i have to pay upfront for shipping at Usps. 2 years ago i sold something and i chose usps ground, I think it was parcel select ground ( i just remember it saying ground) as it was the cheapest way to send item and when I got the the post office to scan my QR code and get a label i had to pay for the shipping upfront from my pocket. It happened 2 different occasions using ground. It wasnt deducted from the item i sold. I had to pay at the usps store for the label. I haven't done ebay in 2 years and there's been changes. Im a bit lost at the moment. Thannk u in advance.
It should come from the proceeds of your sale. If it is a brand new account, that might vary. But, typically, it won't come out of pocket.
I purchased a bicycle rack from Amazon, it arrived with no extra box. In the event I re-sell the bicycle rack on eBay, do I need to put that inside another box? Thank you for all of your helpful tips and information.
If it'll ship safely, you wouldn't need to. I'm guilty of over packing things, though. I'd probably double it up.
Scott, I bought a Rollo label printer, tested it fine, but when I purchased the ebay label, it printed out sideways on the 4x6 label. Trying to find a fix but haven’t yet! Thank you! 🌺🎉
I had to do a couple of things. First, make sure you have it set to 4x6 labels on the computer AND in eBay.
@Rollo is really responsive if you have a question, too.
Could you just print out each shipping policy you have with the corresponding shipping service and what type of item goes in what bag or box? I am trying to start listing hard goods, pictures, ceramics, pottery, lamps, etc.
Thank You!!!!
I'm not sure I understand. Are you wanting me to type up all of my policies and what we ship with each one? That would be a monumental task. The ones I covered in this video probably constitute 75% of everything we do. The rest is one-off stuff.
Thank you for your videos! I currently sell on Poshmark but wish to sell on eBay. My question is this: Do I have to weigh all my items before cross listing from Poshmark to eBay? It would be such a hassle to have to pull my items & weigh them. This would be for calculated shipping, correct? What would you advise is best way to ship if I find that most of my clothes weigh under a pound or two? And I want to avoid having to weigh everything. Would this be flat rate shipping? If so, can I use priority mail packaging? I’m still unclear on how flat rate shipping works and is it more expensive for the buyer? Thank you!
If you use USPS Priority materials, you would need to ship Priority mail. If everything fits in a Priority Padded Flat Rate envelope, you could charge $8.99 and that would cover the cost of the label and all (or most) of any fees. BUT, if you don't want to weigh things, you could guess and charge an amount that will get you close enough to not worry one way or the other. I charge $5.99 for t-shirts and I ship them USPS Ground advantage. I use poly mailers that are fairly cheap. Jeans are heavier. So, I'd probably charge $8.99 and use Ground Advantage.
The benefit of just putting Ground Advantage on everything is that it is almost always cheaper. BUT, NO ONE complains if you upgrade them to Priority. So, if there's an item that ships easier with Priority (or even cheaper), you can always upgrade.
If you use calculated, you could estimate the weight and the packaging you're going to use and probably get pretty close with some experience. I have enough ROI in my items that a dollar or two doesn't sink my battleship if I miss a little on shipping. Only you can decide if you have that kind of cushion. :-)
Thank you so much! I have been scared to take the leap onto eBay, so I’ve been watching your videos as well as others. But you have a special talent for the way you explain things which I find to be so helpful.
Scott, I use calculated shipping, buyer pays for shipping. Is it a good idea to set up a shipping policy with say 3 choices - ground advantage, priority, ups. Then, when a buyer brings up my listing, he can go to the shipping line, click on more details, and pick which service he wants to use. Is this a good practice to use?
You certainly can. I don't typically do that. I set mine up for what would be the cheapest. For the vast majority of people, they want the cheapest option. When I tried it, I ended up with people wondering why it cost more when they selected the most expensive method. They just didn't read. So, I don't offer that. If someone contacts me and asks for a faster method, I can always add it.
I use my own boxes, however when I type in the dimensions, eBay doesn’t allow it. It keeps reverting to auto fill measurements. It’s driving me crazy
hmm...Are you shipping with USPS flat rate? I've never had that happen.
The poly mailers.. how do you measure something like clothing which doesn't have a fixed shape??
Generally speaking, I use the outside dimensions of the mailer plus the thickness. For example, for a 10x13 poly mailer, the first 2 measurements are 10X13. Then, I enter the maximum thickness of the package after I've inserted the item into it. So, a pair of jeans might end up being 10X13X4. A t-shirt might be 10x13x2.
Does that help?
@TheChaChingKing it does.. I'll play around with it on a sale.. compare to a box and it's prices
I am setting up business policies. For shoes, priority mail shoe box, do I use flat same to call buyers or can I use calculated? If flat must be used, do I get the prices from USPS?
Thank you
If you want to use the Priority mail shoe box, I would go with calculated until you see what it costs. Just know the shipping weight as it will vary depending on the shoes. Enter the 15x8x6 USPS Priority shoes box size and the shipping weight and choose calculated. If I were to start selling shoes today, that's what I'd do.
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you so much!
If I do not enter weight and dimensions on my listing, is it still possible for my item to sell internationally through the EIS program? I have had a couple shipments go EIS in the past. I usually don't put weight and dims and just charge flat rate instead. But how does the International customer know what Ebay will charge beyond Chicago if I don't list how big the package is.
You're probably ok as long as it is under one cubic foot and under 4 pounds. I think those are the weight and dimensions for First Class International. But...I'm not positive. I've worried about the exact same thing before. So, I have just started including weight and measurements on all of my listings even if I'm charging a flat rate.
Thank you gor your video!!!! I cleaned out the attic and have actually sold 2 of the items that I listed!!!!
My question is this- the shipping label has my name and address on it. Is there any way to remove at least my name? Thank you❤
In my last video, at the 22 minute mark, I show you how to change your name on there. You can literally change this to anything you want. So you could take your last name out or use a business name. czcams.com/video/c6HodF9Dh0s/video.html
Thank you so much!
If you have your own thermal printer, does Ebay still charge you for the labels, or how dies that work? Extreme newbie, and trying to learn as much as possible before i take the huge leap. Thanks
You still pay for the label because the post office will still charge for the shipping. Think about the label like you would stamps. Whether you buy your stamps from the post office or somewhere else, you still have to pay for them. Labels work the same way.
@TheChaChingKing Thank you, you are so generous with your tips and information.
If you choose to charge a handling fee, will the customer see that or is it just wrapped up in the shipping total?
I have never charged one, but I believe they can see it. I'm not entirely sure, though. I'll keep my eyes open for it going forward.
Is it ok to print it a label then mail the next day if it’s within your shipping policy? Or would I get dinged anyway?
No, if it's within the shipping policy you have, it should be just fine
@@TheChaChingKing thank you so much for being so responsive. You make me feel much better now!
Is there a way to figure out in advance what the ebay discount for shipping will be? I am finding it ranges from 11% to 28% discount
You can try to use eBay's shipping calculator. But, I still find that experience is really the best way to know in advance. The more you ship, the easier it gets to guestimate the cost. Here's the calculator:
www.ebay.com/shp/Calculator
Does USPS pick up ground advantage at your home, or is it just Priority? Want to start with eBay but need home pickups.
As far as I know, you can schedule a pick up the same way that you would Priority. I've never used it, but I believe that you can.
@@TheChaChingKing thank you very much. I've been watching your videos and they've really helped. I'm feeling more confident about the shipping.
At about 14:40 minutes in, you say "If you buy your label from eBay". What do you mean by that? Thanks!
I'm sorry it wasn't more clear. You're still buying a Post Office (or UPS or FedEx) label. You're just buying it through eBay. The Post Office eventually gets the money from eBay. By buying it through eBay, you get a big discount and tracking is automatically uploaded.
Does that make sense?
@@TheChaChingKing Yes, thanks for the response. My wife and I did this but it was a long time ago, we're thinking of doing it again because here in FL we have a lot of retired people, so plenty of estate and garage/yard sales all year long.
Another great video Scott! Thanks. But here’s a question. So…….I pick ship in 2 days. But 2 days have passed and I still haven’t received any payment from the buyer. Now what? So how can the buyer be made to pay within the correct time? I’m not shipping an item without first being paid.
Oh wow...what a great question. I hadn't even considered the question. You have 2 day shipping FROM THE TIME THAT THEY"VE PAID. So, your clock doesn't start ticking until the buyer has paid for the item.
Thank you Scott for your reply! Now I know. You do an awesome job keeping everyone in the loop with your superb video advice!! I’m sure many others share my feelings!!
So are our listings automatically put into Ebays international shipping or do we have to opt into that somewhere
If you are eligible, you are automatically opted into eBay's International Shipping program. You can opt out if you choose.
To opt out of eBay International Shipping:
Go to My eBay and select Account.
Select Shipping preferences.
Select Opt Out on the right-hand side of eBay International Shipping.
Select Done.
Thank you sir
why is it necessary to create a shipping policy when ebay already has options there to select calculated or flat rate? I don't understand the purpose of creating a shippinng policy.
The main benefit is that you can tailor it to fit your business. If the ones that are already there work, there's no need to create your own.
If my individual account is bane can i make business account or not
If your account was banned, you can't make another account. Contact eBay for Business on Facebook to see if they can help.
How does my buyer know what to pay for shipping if I don't know the whight or size of the package until I sell it?
If you have a flat shipping price in there, it'll show them that. If you try to use calculated shipping and don't have the shipping weight and size in there, it's going to give them the wrong price.
Okay I understand thank you very much you have been a lot of help for me
Just got email from eBay: "We’re reaching out to let you know that, starting May 15, your listings that display calculated shipping will default to showing eBay Labels discounted shipping rates. " Could you please explain what does mean it? I don't use Calculated shipping, because found sometimes ebay calculate crazy shipping price for buyers. Maybe with new updates it will be good to start use it. Thanks!
It wasn't an incredibly clear notification, was it? Here's the bottom line, when using calculated shipping on eBay, the default after that date is going to be to pass along your shipping discount to the buyer. And, it will automatically choose the least expensive option for the buyer. The idea being that, cheaper shipping results in more sales. What isn't clear to me yet is if it will default to a carrier other than USPS (or whichever carrier I've chosen). For me, anything other that USPS is REALLY inconvenient.
Like you, I don't use a lot of calculated shipping. I will probably opt out of defaulting to the cheapest method until I know more. Here's their page explaining it. The link to your choices is at the bottom of this page.

I don’t understand where you get the cost you got for the price of shipping.
Also I don’t understand of how to use the priority boxes you get from USPS. How do you figure the cost of does eBay figure that? This is so confusing because I don’t know how you can determine the cost of the box and packing when first listing the item. What if you weight the item with one box and when it comes time to ship you have to use another size? I still don’t understand why all these shipping policies either. Just makes no sense to me how to ship something.
I know. It seems overwhelming. Shipping is a lot like driving. When you first get behind the wheel...it's a lot. But it gets easier and easier.
I have a good idea what my items cost to ship just from experience. I've shipped enough stuff that I have a pretty good idea what it'll weigh and cost when it's ready to go.
You CAN let eBay figure out the cost for you by using calculated shipping. If you use that, go ahead and have your item packed in it's shipping material before you weigh and measure it. Then, it'll be more accurate.
USPS Priority is just a service that the post office offers. If you are using that shipping service, you can use the free Priority materials. There are two types of Priority materials. There are the boxes and envelopes that have to be weighed to figure out how much shipping will cost. And there are some "flat rate" ones that will cost the same no matter how much weight you pack into it.
As far as using a different box and that changing the weight, I always round-up the weight when I'm shipping. So, if the box is slightly different, it doesn't have a big impact.
I hope that helps a little.
I just sold my first item with free shipping and it’s says the buyer chose priority shipping. I wasn’t planning on sending priority, so how were they able to do this help!
As long as your listing showed a different shipping, don't worry about that. I'm not sure why eBay does that, but I've seen it, too. As long as my listing said "Ground Shipping" or "Economy shipping," I'm not obligated to ship it Priority. And most likely your buyer didn't check anything unless you allowed different shipping methods.
How do I find the sellers hub?
I found it but don’t see what you see. Maybe it’s because I’m on an iPad. I’ll change to laptop.
Ok, I changed to my laptop and I’m in the seller hub. The only thing under selling category is

Help, please!!! 😊
There is no Business Practices
The business practices are found by clicking on your name in the very upper left corner. There should be a down arrow there. You should be able to find it from there.
I've been watching your videos for few days now and have learned a lot!! I'm new to Ebay selling and have encountered something I can't find a solution to... selling multiples of the same item with calculated shipping. I make soap. The soap comes in about 20 fragrances. Each bar of soap weighs 4.5 oz. When setting up the calculated shipping, it asks how much does one bar of soap weigh and the dimension of the package I'll be shipping it in. If I sell 1 bar of soap it gets shipped in a poly mailer weighing 5 oz. for XX dollars. If I sell 4 bars of soap it weighs 18 oz and gets shipped in a box. The 4 bars weigh more than the one bar. How does Ebay figure out the calculated shipping charge for the multiple soap bar order and charge the correct shipping fee??
Thank you. If you can't respond, I certainly understand. I've searched Ebay's help but to no avail. Ebay shipping seems to be set up for singular sales, not multiples of the same item. I'll keep looking for an answer :)
What I would do is up your charge for each additional piece in a way that covers the extra weight by the time you get to the 4th bar. If it's going to run 75 cents more for the 4th bar, raise each bar's shipping cost by 25 cents. Does that make sense?
@@TheChaChingKing That makes sense! Thank you so much for the reply - I really appreciate it. All the best to you!
i am 17 years old can i start selling on ebay as a private seller if the answer is no why? thanks sir love your videos 🥰
The ONLY issue with you selling on eBay at 17 is that you are still technically a minor. So, you will need someone over the age of 18 to open the account. But eBay clearly states that an underage user can use the platform with the permission of the adult.
As far as ability? Heck, at 17 you are probably more technologically literate that most of the people in my generation. If you're willing to do the work, I can think of any reason at all that you couldn't be successful.
I love ground advantage and it makes me upset that when I want to order something from an eBay seller that they don’t use ground advantage !
I love it, too.
Like the video Guys & Gals!!!
Hear! Hear! EIS eBay international shipping 👍👍 I wish I could SELL everything EIS.
You and me both!
Help!!! I accepted an offer from seller and went to process it. I accidentally marked it as paid because I thought it paid automatically when I accepted the offer but it will not let me print label because they haven't paid. But when I marked it as paid ebay charged me the fees. Do I need to cancel it and have buyer to try to pay me. I don't know what to do.
If you are the seller, I don't think it's as easy to mark it unpaid and it was to mark it paid. I wouldn't immediately cancel it if that's the case. I would contact eBay for Business on Facebook and let them know what happened. They might be able to reset it so the buyer can pay you.
One thing isn't quite clear. You said that you accepted an offer from a seller. Offers from sellers sometimes come in when you looked at an item while working on your comps. So, did you accidentally buy something? If you did that, ask the seller to cancel it and let them know you bought it by mistake.
.... well here's how it went. I contacted seller told him I made a mistake and clicked on seller paid trying to print label. I canceled the sale as shipping label error. It relisted item, I changed price to give him discount for my error and turned off the offers so he had to pay immediately. Contacted him that new listing was up with discount for his trouble. He paid and the sale went through. He seemed very patient and understanding with my error. I guess I learned a valuable lesson and hopefully I don't get dinged or bad feedback. I've sold 5 items in the past few days. It's been a good week other than that issue.
@@johnspiva64 Honestly, that sounds like an incredibly professional way to handle it. It sounds like you did really well with it. I'd add that whole transaction to the WIN column.
If you select 2-Day doesn't that mean you cannot be a Top-Rated Seller?
The number of days you select does ultimately have an impact on your rating. For brand new resellers, I personally think setting things up so that you can always ship on time is more important.
It seems the shipping policies setup has disappeared. Is it time for a new video?
LOL... it's always time for a new video. I think ebay waits to do an update until right after I put out a video.
I'll check it out and see if I can update it.
@@TheChaChingKing My bad. I am new and did not see that you had to "opt in" first so you can create policies.
Is it true that if you ship in one day you move up in eBays algorithm?
I think so. That said, there are other things that make more of an impact. Free shipping, promotions, and running a sale... for example
@@TheChaChingKing thank you for your quick reply. I have learned so very much from your videos! Thank you!
Is there a fee to use PayPal or use funds to pay for shipping?
Do you have a video explaining options of using PayPal or eBay funds for shipping or other transactions?
Do ALL ITEMS shipped thru ebay ALL have included TRACKING??
Yes. The only "exception" would be eBay’s Standard Envelope. Ebay provides a "tracking" number, but it isn't actually tracked by the post office.
@@TheChaChingKing i don't know what that is, ebay standard envelopes.
@@madmax8620 their standard envelopes are only allowed for items under $20 and in certain categories
@@TheChaChingKing well if trading cards or small action figures are included in that, I have thousands of those..
I am still confused. LOL
It really can be confusing. It reminds me of learning to drive. EVERYTHING seems to come at you so quickly and it's tough to process. But, even a little experience goes a long, long way. You can do this.
They perment bane my account..
What should i do now.?
Try reaching out to eBay for Business on Facebook. I have found them to be the most responsive when trying to solve a problem.
@@TheChaChingKing can you provide me the link i will be thankful to you for that...
International Shipping was UNCLEAR...
What you described early in the video, you claim to prefer(sending to ebay's hub) what ebay was also clearly describing as the very same thing to option on that very page, YET you dont click it and decline it, and say "this is NOT THAT, this is something else, so dont use/choose this" , what??? The provided info there from ebay was clearly describing what you said was what you use, yet you avoided it and chose "no International shipping" ...why?? Makes no sense...
...UNLESS, is International shipping turned on by default??...and that drop down box that you say "do not use", it says "no International shipping" , but perhaps it should instead say this:"no ADDITIONAL International shipping services"... ? I have no clue, unless it is EBAY not being clear with its language...
I'm sorry it wasn't clear. When you check that box to offer International Shipping, you are offering to ship that package without going through eBay’s International Shipping Program. You are going to ship it directly to the buyer.
If you have opted into eBay’s International Shipping Program, all of your listings are included by default.
I'll try and break down the difference in its own video soon. I'll show how to opt your account in, too.
Well done vlog
Thank you.
