Robert Powell should've been nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal as Jesus!
Hard to pull off since it was a TV miniseries.
It was made for television, it’s not a movie Mr. Mozart. 😉
are you tom hulce??
@@marvinsilverman4394 sure am
Not eligible for Oscar, but definitely worth an Emmy award!
definitely the best actor to play Christ, ever
Brian David Jim Caviezel
Max von sydon
Ted Neeley for singing JC Superstar, Robert Powell for naughty thoughts Jesus.
Jim Caviezel.
How if Christ was black
, 1977 Jesus of Nazareth came out and it's still the best movie ever made about the Life of Christ
Will be not another I think
The best JESUS FILM ever. It will live in our SOULS forever
100%
That film alone is proof, that God never left humans. God never stopped loving us, even though we departed from him as far as possible. Because nobody can persuade me, that the entire film has not had Jesus watching over it and being pleased.
Son of God is good also, I forgot the actor's name
Obviously a VERY GOOD actor. The best movie in my opinion of Jesus I've ever seen.
Jesus Christ the real Jesus wouldn’t say that.
@Jesus Christ Please...😉you didn't take your medication today🤔,did you?!Trust me,they're good for you💊💉! Love &smile😘🤗❕
Jesus looks like cesare borgia h
Absolutely... However, The Passion (2004) has a lot of spiritual value
The best Jesus ever!!!
Robert Powell was magnificent as Jesus. His eyes were the mirror to everyone's soul. Jesus of Nazareth is the best movie ever. 🙏🕊
I agree and agree some more with your statement - best movie ever!
True ❤😊
👍🏼
Robert Powell had such a beautiful face and he gave a beautiful performance! 🕊️ May all your days be blessed!
I have the dvd set and Robert Powell is definitely the best and most inspirational portrayal of Jesus. Fantastic job. Very moving.
Do you have the one with him playing Gustav Mahler?
YYYEEEESSSSS ❤❤❤
I don't quite agree. He never smiled when he was Jesus. My favorite actors who played Jesus are Bruce Marciano and Jeremy Sisto and Diego Margado (Did I spell it right?)
They shouldn’t be laughing. The role he played means a great deal to a lot of people.
Exactly just what I thought what ignorant unintelligent people it a fended me to hear that Robert Powell was brilliant Gods mystery
I'm still watching it am located in Greece 🇬🇷 athens and the movie still it touches my soul 😊 we have Easter right now
Well, he is not Jesus, he is an actor. It must feel really weird for him seeing himself on a poster in a church. Also, it actually is a bit funny that there are people that can't see the difference🤷♀️
Very very well said.
Considering the film crew who went to the church were also laughing, I think we can give them a pass.
I still remember watching his film as a child and have never forgotten it.
He was blessed to play this role. It is metaphysical. This is the only explanation of this incredible aura he had in the whole movie.
Very straight gaze and clear delivery.
+Sofia Noiti. I have always been thinking your way since 1977,the first time I saw the movie. I was ten, a little girl who was sitting in front of television with her beloved mum. She was catholic in the purest term. She said :" He is just an actor my baby not our Lord but he, not only plays, he really trustes and feels anything he does, the way, our Lord did. ❤️
He actually went in there expecting to just get the role of John the Baptist. On an interesting side note, he has a small non speaking part in the 1975 rock opera "Tommy" as Tommy's father.
@@eternalhalloween1 intended a wonderful mystery God is full of mysterious ways
Wow-- Best actor to EVER play Jesus. What a blessing his life has been by playing Jesus Christ in an international movie and having such a positive implant on the lives of so many converts and Christians.
He is so handsome when playing the actor as Jesus Christ, so holy and pure.
Mr Powell you certainly have no idea how many souls God touched using your character as Jesus of Nazareth. Whether that character is idolized till this day or not, you should be grateful to God for such an effective evangelism God allowed you to do without you knowing it. Just by watching that movie many gave their lives to Christ. I've been watching it since I was a little boy and now I'm 42. I just finished watching and I feel so powerfully reconnected to the words of Jesus. Thank you for availing yourself to make that movie.
I hope he realizes what you so accurately stated. I hope he does.
Robert Powell said " Don't worship me, worship the real Jesus Christ in the bible". When you look at pic of Robert Powell playing Jesus Christ you dont see Robert Powell, you see Jesus Christ. Robert Powell was just a representative of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Both sir Powell and Jim Cavizel are the 2 best Jesus actors
I couldn't have said it better Mr. Walsh.... I agree totally.😄👌
:von sydon was great also
@@Sandwich13455 not as good as Jeffrey Hunter in "King of Kings".. but everyone has differences. 😄
@@Sandwich13455 He was awful LOL
Mel Gibson's "The Passion" (with Jim Cavaziel) and "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (with Max Von Sydow) all have something good to offer. But "Jesus of Nazareth" (with Robert Powell) is the one I watch the most.
His eyes are the best part. I’d like to think Jesus looked just like that. I loved the film, mesmerising.
It's true that Mr. Powell has gorgeous piercing eyes that penetrate the soul, but I assure you Jesus' eyes were dark, either Black or Brown; remember, He came to earth as a JEW, the Jews back then were NOT mixed with today's Europeans and there did not have Blue & Green eyes, they all had dark eyes. But rest assured Oriet, Jesus' eyes are MUCH MUCH MUCH more gorgeous and penetrate much deeper, I GUARANTEE you that.
@@KingOfKings888 we could see it's exception for him cause he was divine.
@@KingOfKings888 I love how people like you make declarative statements about what Jews looked like in Jesus time when they have NO CLUE what they are talking about. @@CRAZYHORSE19682003 I won't argue with you as ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, but that is a SUPER UNIQUE case, but the Bible says that Jesus didn't have any special attractive looks and of course I am widely paraphrasing. So, in general, MOST LIKELY Jesus had brown/black/dark eyes, dark skin, but if you my Brother/Sister would like to think Jesus had Blue eyes, it is perfectly OK with me, as WE BOTH have NO CLUE. Also writer can make up stories for any given time, so do not believe just about anything you read on the Internet. If you are born again Christian like me, then we will meet in Heaven and ONLY THEN we will see what color eyes Jesus has.
@@KingOfKings888 I will be the first to say I have no clue what Jesus looked like. For me it is not important. Amazing how the art dwarfs the artist. Powell cannot be dwarfed as an actor, but I do consider his portrayal of Jesus to be outstanding.
He played that role so amazing & was so beautiful! Great actor!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼😁
The one thing that distinguishes RP's interpretation for me is that his is the only one that conveys that strange juxtaposition of authority and power on one side with mercy and kindness on the other, as in the Gospel.
That's weird you say that, because I thought of RP as being more authoritative and commanding the power of His rightousness, while Jim Caviezel captured the mercy and kindness more than RP. I believe that Christ was a very influential historical figure because no one fused both natures as strongly as He did.
@@First1it1Giveth Yes, I agree. Caviezel's shows the merciful side of Jesus more than RP's.
What a big actor!!!
One of the finest actors ever.....
his role playing Jesus...the looks...he was the closest of all who portrayed Jesus, in my opinion. His eyes in that movie speaks volume, when he looked or stared at something or someone, there seems truth...that's why Jesus of Nazareth played by Robert Powell will be the best version of all
Just want to share this. In my later years, a lot of tragedy has happened and very personally connected losses. As if a whole world was pulled away from me. And literally it is. In my struggle to protect myself I have been working on and not wanting to take everything in my heart for all that pain. Yesterday I was very moody. So locked and so dead in my soul. I happened to find a CZcams sequence with Robert Powell as Jesus and in a music video "Alabaster box". It was like my whole inner burst and in all my loneliness I met such light, courage and mercy. After many tears I fell asleep with the picture in front of me of Jesus so infinitely beautiful with these blue eyes and all that. This meeting with Robert Powell as Jesus, the music and meaning, was the best I could wish for. Thank you (RP) for your fantastic interpretation of Jesus. Thank God, I have a hard time believing anyone could do better visual stand in of His son.
Trust the Lord Jesus, cry out His name, He's alive, He loves you, He cares about you, just call on Him and read His Word, the New Testament!!!
E stato un film memorabile con questo grande attore..nel film Gesù ha dato il meglio di se stesso..il più bel film su Gesù..belle anche le musiche..
Robert Powell was wonderful in Jesus of Nazareth.
I can’t imagine Jesus looking any other way but exactly how Powell looked and portrayed Him in Zeffirelli’s movie.
Lol 😂
I first saw Robert as Jesus when I was about 6 and to me he still is Jesus one of the best films ever 🥰
I believe the entire cast was stellar! There wasn't a single performance half-done. Robert was incredible, the script was incredible, direction. It's a little disheartening that few roles could ever match the reverence that was associated with this one that Robert played.
Very good actor perfect performance
Amen/;)

Masterpiece from Ziffirelli.
He was anointed for that part like none other...

I'm not really religious but Jesus of Nazareth was truly a masterpiece. I know Jesus was most likely very different looking. Still his eyes we piercing my soul. His smile was comforting. The way he looked at everyone with such love and mercy was truly touching.
I pray everyday , Our Father who art in heaven, with the company of Robert Powell's clip portraying Jesus. Because he is also in my prayers. When I play his video to my friends they all want to see it and they want me to send them a copy of the clip. Even though they don't like to hear me speak about the Bible. God bless everybody ♥️
Best actor betrayal of Jesus...period
Even though it is absurd to mistake Mr. Powell for Jesus; Nevertheless, he WAS INDEED anointed by GOD throughout the movie, and it is THE MOST ACCURATE representation on Christ, in any movie ever made about Christ. It is clear in the Bible that there were and still are SUPER UNIQUE humans, that GOD used for His purposes, for example, Samson, Moses, David, Solomon, Elisha, Elijah, etc. etc.; In our Century, this man Mr. Robert Powell, WAS INDEED SUCH A SUPER UNIQUE character that GOD anointed to create the BEST JESUS movie ever made by mankind. Can't wait to meet him in Heaven and worship JESUS the TRUE GOD together, along with ALL of you who are born again!!!. Until then, be blessed!!!.

Jesus of Nazareth is one of the best films ever made
Its the best movie about Jesus, thanks for a spectacular performance. Sir Robert Powell, nobody knows how Jesus looked like, so be thankfull that we have a good idea because you portrayed him perfectly. Thanks also to the late Zeffirelli who chose you for the part. You did him justice. I first saw the movie back in Malta where I was born. I watch the movie every Easter and its always make me feel blessed that I am a Catholic and that I believe and practice the faith. It would have been better that the Resurrection was also included in the end. I am a great fan of all your work thanks to U Tube. Keep up the good work. Now a Maltese,Canadian.
He was amazing, the best movie of life of jesus, and the best actor to pay jesus, no one would be able to do a remake
Christians don't worship Robert Powell.
We know he's an actor.
But people are humans.
Please don't be upset Robert, just thank God your performance made a difference in many lives.
Message is all Good because God is good!
This man looks at you in the interview and you instantly regret any question you have to ask him
I was little when I watched this movie , and to this day when I try to imagine what Jesus looks like , I think of this man . He did a great job in the film .
Robert Powell was amazing in the role of Jesus, in Jesus of Nazareth. It also just so happens that at the time of filming, as well as giving an inspirational performance, he seemed to fit how a lot of people imagine Jesus to look. He even starved himself for the role, so that he would look more emaciated and helpless on the cross. Even now, if you look through Facebook groups about Jesus, some people will use that movie image in their picture messages on those groups, as if Robert Powell is the official image of Jesus, which always makes me smile. I'm not sure what Robert Powell would make of seeing that, even to this day.
There was such great purity in Robert Powell's performance. There are important scriptures left out of what Jesus said, at the Last Supper does not say that Jesus Body and Blood is for the forgiveness of sins, but going back to the Gospels after this movie series is greatly enriching, it has dignity and integrity and great beauty in the acting and production much of which is Franco Zefferelli as well. Worth watching again and again but always go back to the scriptures and remember however great an annointing there seems to be on this performance of our Lord Jesus bringing out Jesus love and compassion and teaching that Robert Powell is just an actor and may not be completely aware of how the Lord used him to elucidate deep meanings despite Powell's obvious gifts and skills many artists in other fields are not always fully aware of the beauty and truth that flowed through them. I pray Robert Powell will become a Christian if he not already.
@ Linda: I really enjoyed reading your post.Thank you.
Linda I agree with you 100%. Beautifully said
Linda:God's Blessings☝ dear unknown sister in Faith...absolutely agree. ⛪🙏May Jesus Christ Enlighten your life's path😇! 🤗
Way back in the 1980s I was sitting with a girl outside the Wells Tavern in Hampstead when it was still a pub, and Robert Powell walked across the road and into the pub. The girl blurted out, fairly loudly "oh look! It's... it's... Jesus!". He gave a wry smile and carried on inside.
The impact of this man on the perception of the image of Jesus…is something incredible
God i really like Robert Powell he is soo humble n has sense of humor ❤ Maybe God Almighty created Mr. Powell to portray His son JESUS CHRIST💕🍀🙏
He's right. I picked up a Sunday missal and inside were drawing of Jesus that clearly looked like Robert Powell.
Who knows god is gracious he allowed Robert Powell to play his son I think it was Franco zeffirelli who made that movie but I truly believe God works in mysterious ways and I truly believe that he blesses the people that portrays him father son and Holy Spirit truly gets the word out
A good actor can, I believe, get inside the mind of the person he is meant to portray. Did God himself enable the actor to portray Jesus in a way that has had an influence on people for over 40 years now? I don't reject the idea out of hand, although clearly it didn't mean that Powell was expected to spend the rest of his career as God's vicar on earth. Someone else has that particular job. There have been a number of occasions when by chance I have found myself helping Christians and have been told that I must have been sent by God. I don't spend my life going out of my way to do good. If I have managed a few times to do something that strengthens people's faith in a good way I'm not going to feel embarrassed or proud either. The danger comes when people start to believe they are doing God's will. They may be, but they can never know for certain.
just got done watching the film, its so weird seeing him as a young man and now as an old one. haha
Really brought Jesus to life. Never forgot that movie.
His acting overshadowed the blue eyes etc he was directed divinely
I thought his eyes were green. There are green eyed Hebrews. It's a little sad reading these comments about Christ's complexion. His coming was a call to inclusion and peace between all nations and to love our brothers as we do ourselves, not fabricate ego battles that further divide along racial lines. However I find myself coming back to CZcams time and time again to watch this great mini-series.

I was deeply touched by the Jesus of Nazereth movie, it was the foundation stone of my conversion, seeing as I was having major epileptic seizures at the time. ROBERT POWELL PLAYED THE BEST JESUS EVER
This man has no idea how he was and is blessed to present our Lord God Jesus Christ and his life on Earth !!!!! Thanks to everyone who created and been involved in this beautiful movie !!!! ❤ ☦️
I like how Steve Whyment taught Robert his sword skills for the close ups and also stood in for him on most of it.
In the mid-Thirties of the last century, so around he year 1935, a Catholic nun named Faustina Kowalska said she had mystical visions of Jesus Christ and they painted Jesus following this nun's descriptions. The painting presented a man with shoulder length hair, a beard and moustache and dark blue eyes. This image known as the Merciful Jesus became worldwide famous. Before that, icons depicted Jesus more or less with the same features, that is, shoulder length hair, moustache and a beard. It is likely that Jesus kept his hair like this, the Romans did shave and keep their hair short as they were mainly involved in military campaigns, but the Jews did not. Anyways, my idea is that Italian director Franco Zeffirelli was looking for one actor who could look like Saint Faustina Kowalska's Christ or, in general, to the icons' Christ. Robert Powell auditioned for the role of Judas, but when asked to let them prepare him as Jesus, he eventually accepted and the result was very beautiful and touching. Great director, Franco Zeffirelli.
