I will NEVER forget the movie “Jesus Of Nazareth”; it was during the time I was making my First Communion; and the Passion scenes haunted me for days after I saw them.. And it’s all because of the raw performances of Robert Powell. I actually felt the pain of the sufferings of Christ through him. Thank you Mr. Powell for helping me commit to my Catholic faith.
I remember watching Robert Powell play Jesus when I was a kid, and I must say that I have yet to see an actor play the role better than Robert Powell. It was more than his acting it was his look as well.
It was also the fact that he studied the Word of God, and God put His power on Robert to play the part because he was so sincere about playing it truthfully.
Robert is my favourite Jesus by far..imagine how thrilled I was to learn he was still alive and in holby city....He portrays the love and humility of Jesus so well...I consider this film most original...Robert makes me see Jesus.

I was floored to read one time an interview with the director of Jesus Of Nazareth who said originally they had brought Robert Powell in for the role of Judas. But said that the moment he stepped out after having been with makeup and wardrobe, they knew instantly that he was going to play Jesus due to the striking resemblance of the image they all had of what Christ truly looked like.

Dear Robert, if you ever read this I want you to know God put the strongest anointing to play Jesus I have ever seen on you. I love to watch Jesus of Nazareth. It makes me feel such comfort to hear Gods Word spoken with power and such love. I told God last week that it was such a serious movie and made me sad to see the way they treated Jesus. The next day I looked you up as I often do when I like an actor and think they have good morals and I found the Detectives ! I was sooo pleased to see you acting so funny and it balanced my sadness when I watch Jesus of Nazareth. Now when I see it I am reminded of your laughter and I thank God for letting me watch you as a funny man with your partner that is also so funny. I have watched Jesus from Nazareth, at least 20 some times, and I can never get tired of it. I have also TRIED to watch numerous other productions, and I had to turn it off after a few minutes. Mr. Powell, I bet you are tired of hearing the same thing, Jesus, Jesus..... and you want to scream, guys I’ve done other things, you know?!. Yes, I know. But I want to tell you what your performance meant to me. I have watched you since I was a child. I’m now 52. And during these many years, from country to country, leaving my home, my parents, only thing I had as a friend was you. Your image. Your voice. I say these words with tears dripping on my cheeks. I’ll add one more thing. It was your image, your voice and the music of this film that produce that magic for me and made me feel safe. So, I thank you. I know you will never see these words, but, this is as close as I can possibly get to you to tell you, what your performance means to me.

that movie jesus of nazrath touched me so as a child...an was the closest thing to the real thing that i have ever seen.......my mom and all us kids watched when it first aired in 1977.........my mom is gone now and im 53 and to this day i still watch it......remembering her.

You are indeed a gifted actor and a real gentleman. I believe that you were divinely inspired by God to deliver such a performance. Everything , from the way you walked, carried yourself, the look of love and compassion, emulating from your eyes was so powerful ! When your eyes filled with tears on the Sermon on the Mount and on the Cross, something deep inside reached my soul. I know that your portrayal is the single most important, impressive and brilliant piece of acting EVER caught on film. It is not a coincidence that this is a portrayal of our Lord Jesus Christ ! Robert Powell is brilliant in every piece of acting he does. He would most probably be no less brilliant if he recited the menue in a restaurant. In addition, he has been gifted with an impeccable voice, the most precious weapon of an actor, worthy of being heard on all big stages of the world. This, together with his intelligent eyes and countenance as a whole, creates his unique charisma and makes him one of the most remarkable, talented actors England has ever given to the world. His passion for his craft is absolutely awesome. It would only do him justice for him to be acknowledged not only for his (indeed exceptional) performance in Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth", but also for all the other parts he briliantly played in films and on TV (Mahler, 39 Steps, Imperative, Color me Kubrick, Pygmalion, The First Circle, The Detectives, Holby City and many others). I profoundly regret never having had the privilege to watch him (and many of his colleagues) playing live on stage, as I do not reside in England.

Robert Powel to me is the best actor to portray Jesus. Jim Caviezel was also excellent but I think the difference is Powel's portrayal was from the beginning of Jesus' life whereas Caviezel was only a portion specifically the passion of the crucifixion.
He is a great actor. You watch Jesus of Nazareth and you can't help but believe your actually watching Jesus. I watched the Passion of the Christ in the theater and kept thinking of this. It just can't be done.

He played the perfect Jesus. I have looked at a lot of pictures, paintings, and statues of Jesus and he had all of the natural qualities in his facial features. But of course Jesus lived 2000 years ago, so no one can be sure exactly how he looked. Robert Powell was by far the one actor that audiences can relate to Jesus. But like any actor he does want to only be associated to the part.

He played in Ken Russell's MAHLER, as well, which is brilliant. He plays Mahler, of course. His role as Jesus was brilliant, too--hopefully he realizes that Jesus Christ is the TRUE Savior and gets saved (if he isn't already) because the clock is ticking!

When you're a child just like many things you don't understand you want to see an image. And that aspect who played that role and character not to mention the compassion and humility of our Lord and savior Christ Jesus but it's one of my all-time favorites along with The Greatest Story Ever Told hands down!!!!!! The actor who portrayed Christ Jesus and Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ he acting so we'll also he's a dynamite actor and all kind of Hitman movies the only thing with that movie it didn't show from his birth for telling of his birth I should say and his life and sacrifice on Calvary! If you know the Bible Robert Powell and Max Von Sydow did an excellent job as well as the cast totally outstanding that's why they're called actors but those are my two favorites The Passion of the Christ was a piece of crap that just made people angry and more done for the shock and awe and you can't get no more shock and awe then the Life of Christ Jesus almighty God so that was overdone. I am one that believes God's Spirit was leading the production which is why so many of the characters had flawless acting performances not just Robert Powell.

Watched Jesus of Nazareth on TV last night - in the middle of the night. Woke up and there it was. Best version of the life of Jesus. Thank you.

that movie jesus of nazrath touched me so as a child...an was the closest thing to the real thing that i have ever seen.......my mom and all us kids watched when it first aired in 1977.........my mom is gone now and im 53 and to this day i still watch it......remembering her.

Mr Powell, I hope you read this someday. I also wanted you to know that you touched millions (and renewed their faith in the process ) with your stunning portrayal of our Lord. You are indeed a gifted actor and a real gentleman. I believe that you were divinely inspired by God to deliver such a performance. Everything , from the way you walked, carried yourself, the look of love and compassion, emulating from your eyes was so powerful ! When your eyes filled with tears on the Sermon on the Mount and on the Cross, something deep inside reached my soul. I know that your portrayal is the single most important, impressive and brilliant piece of acting EVER caught on film. It is not a coincidence that this is a portrayal of our Lord Jesus Christ ! Again I believe this is so, because it has been divinely inspired. I also read that during the filming you came to believe in Jesus. Amen to that ! God Bless you Mr Powell, you should be so proud of your performance, the greatest EVER filmed.
Robert Powell is brilliant in every piece of acting he does. He would most probably be no less brilliant if he recited the menue in a restaurant. In addition, he has been gifted with an impeccable voice, the most precious weapon of an actor, worthy of being heard on all big stages of the world. This, together with his intelligent eyes and countenance as a whole, creates his unique charisma and makes him one of the most remarkable, talented actors England has ever given to the world.
His passion for his craft is absolutely awesome. It would only do him justice for him to be acknowledged not only for his (indeed exceptional) performance in Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth", but also for all the other parts he briliantly played in films and on TV (Mahler, 39 Steps, Imperative, Color me Kubrick, Pygmalion, The First Circle, The Detectives, Holby City and many others).
I profoundly regret never having had the privilege to watch him (and many of his colleagues) playing live on stage, as I do not reside in England.
The Passion of the Christ will never hold a candle to this man's portrayal.

Robert Powel to me is the best actor to portray Jesus. Jim Caviezel was also excellent but I think the difference is Powel's portrayal was from the beginning of Jesus' life whereas Caviezel was only a portion specifically the passion of the crucifixion.

He played the perfect Jesus. I have looked at a lot of pictures, paintings, and statues of Jesus and he had all of the natural qualities in his facial features. But of course Jesus lived 2000 years ago, so no one can be sure exactly how he looked. Robert Powell was by far the one actor that audiences can relate to Jesus. But like any actor he does want to only be associated to the part.

He played in Ken Russell's MAHLER, as well, which is brilliant. He plays Mahler, of course. His role as Jesus was brilliant, too--hopefully he realizes that Jesus Christ is the TRUE Savior and gets saved (if he isn't already) because the clock is ticking!

When you're a child just like many things you don't understand you want to see an image. And that aspect who played that role and character not to mention the compassion and humility of our Lord and savior Christ Jesus but it's one of my all-time favorites along with The Greatest Story Ever Told hands down!!!!!! The actor who portrayed Christ Jesus and Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ he acting so we'll also he's a dynamite actor and all kind of Hitman movies the only thing with that movie it didn't show from his birth for telling of his birth I should say and his life and sacrifice on Calvary! If you know the Bible Robert Powell and Max Von Sydow did an excellent job as well as the cast totally outstanding that's why they're called actors but those are my two favorites The Passion of the Christ was a piece of crap that just made people angry and more done for the shock and awe and you can't get no more shock and awe then the Life of Christ Jesus almighty God so that was overdone. @@christinalopez6564 yeah I didn't like the Passion. There is no real subsistence. Jesus of Nazareth was by far and beyond better at actually portraying the scriptural and historical story. I am one that believes God's Spirit was leading the production which is why so many of the characters had flawless acting performances not just Robert Powell.
