Robert Powell as Jesus Christ is the most memorable perfomance of Christ. I'm 63. I was a teen when this movie debuted. I've seen a lot of movies about the Life of Christ. Powell's performance and the entire movie, "Jesus of Nazareth," are the best depictions. I feel I am right there in the presence of these Biblical characters. The only part of this movie that was disappointing for me was when John the Baptist only sprinkled water on Jesus. A true baptism is done by full immersion. 🙏

For God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten son. He laid down his life willfully to provide a way of escape for us. Believe in him and what he did on Calvary and you will be saved if you mean it. It is not too late to be saved. He is real and alive today and you can have a relationship with him and know him. You can see him move on your behalf if you believe.
As an atheist, I agree. Directed by the great Franco Zeffirelli. It's a simple but elegant and straightforward telling of the gospels, beautifully filmed and acted. Doesn't mean it's true, though. All praise to the Flying Spaghetti Monster! 🍝

I love how he is so humble and ordinary and so are the disciples. Zeffirelli is a great director who collaborated with Pasolini who made another great film called “The Gospel of Matthew”. That is another one very worth watching about the life of Christ.

Even the streaming services have this scene cut out. It makes no sense whatsoever! Why cut this crucial scene? It cuts to where Judas walks out the room and the Supper continues, the beginning is gone!
Even the scene of Peter’s denial and the crowing of the cock/rooster relied on this scene. It even negates any need for the “Peter, do you love Me? Feed My sheep/lambs” scene. It’s just so crucial because both men beside Him will commit a sin and feel guilty afterwards.
Why was this entire scene not included in the Anniversary Edition Series? I want the original film in its entirety to include the cut John the Baptist scene, and when Jesus was in the desert being tempted by Lucifer. It is so irritating to see so many important scenes cut from the movie. Why???

I think He said in this that it was “for” the Passover that He did so (because He is THE Passover Lamb). We can get an understanding of the timing of His birth by looking at His cousin, John the Baptist, who was born six months before Him. Most likely Jesus was born around the time of Tabernacles which is in the fall. He was born when the shepherds were tending to the sheep in the fields… and later in winter would be too cold for that (meaning it was not likely December, however around the time of Hanukkah is when he was likely conceived by the Holy Spirit) Mach love ❤
I was in high school when this movie was released for television and my family watched it together when we could. It has by far some of the best scenes from the Bible. Zefferelli also did "Brother Sun, Sister Moon," about St.Francis and St. Clare which had even more dramatic scenes such as the healing of the Pope. The Television series effected my life and I held it up as the primary movie about the Lord and the Christian testament. The filming was hit and miss at times like most large productions. I came to realize there were scenes that did not work well for various reasons including spiritual warfare dynamics on the set including unclean spirits. The movie took it's toll on Mr. Powell and likely the rest which is a sign that they gave it due honor. But the scenes that worked are the most powerful ever done and are not acting but very real as if the Lord showed up Himself! When I want to get an image of Jesus in my mind, I watch a few scenes tht bring the Bible to life with the powerful music like the raising of Lazarus.

Not really. It takes away the poignancy of the scene. It would be a distraction. The director knew what he was doing.

Even the streaming services have this scene cut out. It makes no sense whatsoever! Why cut this crucial scene? It cuts to where Judas walks out the room and the Supper continues, the beginning is gone!

Even the scene of Peter’s denial and the crowing of the cock/rooster relied on this scene. It even negates any need for the “Peter, do you love Me? Feed My sheep/lambs” scene. It’s just so crucial because both men beside Him will commit a sin and feel guilty afterwards.
Why was this entire scene not included in the Anniversary Edition Series? I want the original film in its entirety to include the cut John the Baptist scene, and when Jesus was in the desert being tempted by Lucifer. It is so irritating to see so many important scenes cut from the movie. Why???

I think He said in this that it was “for” the Passover that He did so (because He is THE Passover Lamb). We can get an understanding of the timing of His birth by looking at His cousin, John the Baptist, who was born six months before Him. Most likely Jesus was born around the time of Tabernacles which is in the fall. He was born when the shepherds were tending to the sheep in the fields… and later in winter would be too cold for that (meaning it was not likely December, however around the time of Hanukkah is when he was likely conceived by the Holy Spirit) Mach love ❤

I was in high school when this movie was released for television and my family watched it together when we could. It has by far some of the best scenes from the Bible. Zefferelli also did "Brother Sun, Sister Moon," about St.Francis and St. Clare which had even more dramatic scenes such as the healing of the Pope. The Television series effected my life and I held it up as the primary movie about the Lord and the Christian testament. The filming was hit and miss at times like most large productions. I came to realize there were scenes that did not work well for various reasons including spiritual warfare dynamics on the set including unclean spirits. The movie took it's toll on Mr. Powell and likely the rest which is a sign that they gave it due honor. But the scenes that worked are the most powerful ever done and are not acting but very real as if the Lord showed up Himself! When I want to get an image of Jesus in my mind, I watch a few scenes tht bring the Bible to life with the powerful music like the raising of Lazarus.
