  • An overview of the wheels and tires that I put on my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. I talk in depth about the gas mileage, tire size, wheel size, driving changes and more. The tires are the Toyo Open Country AT3. The wheels are the KMC 708 Bully wheels. I was very excited to see the difference that an aftermarket wheel can make.

      An excellent question. I will be addressing this in a future video but the spare tire that comes on the Crosstrek is just a donut and unfortunately the space that it goes in is too small for a full size spare. Elias, I enjoyed watching your video. I've a 2021 CrossTrek limited edition with 18 inch wheels. My initial plan for off roading was to use the same dimension wheel and tire as yours. However, after watching your video I realized that your rim is 17 inches. Based on your experience should I scale up to 16 inch wheel or stay with 15 inch wheel? If I stay with 15 inch wheel, I no longer can use your tire size as that will screw up the speedometer. I can leave it up to the folks at discount tire to choose the wheel and tire for me, but I thought an opinion from you will be very helpful as well. My personal feeling is to stay with 15 inch wheel and have a very fat off road tire, but that may not be safe. Thanks.

      That’s a good question. I’m not sure I’ve seen to many Santa Fe’s out there with a look like this but it would be cool to see! I’ve seen some Santa Cruz’s that have had some wheel/tire changes and I would imagine it would be similar for the Santa Fe. Something like a 17x8 wheel (I’ve also seen an 18x8 look good) seems to work well. For the 17x8 example they had 255/70 R17 tires on them. Seems like lifts are popular though and I’m not sure if the lift is needed to fit that size or not. Best of luck! I think it’s going to look great!

    Love the setup! I'm going to put the 215/75r15 ATiii's on as well, except with Motegi MR139 rims. Do you have any concerns about accelerated wear on the wheel bearings or CVs due to the offset? I spoked to my dealership but they just gave me the usual line of "it may effect the warranty on those parts"

    • @EliasDelvasto
      @EliasDelvasto  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s a good question. I don’t have huge concerns. I know it has the chance to add wear over time but from what I’ve heard it should be minimal. I will mention one thing that I haven’t determined if it is related or not. I recently replaced my front two wheel bearings due to some noise they were making. The back two were fine, at this point the wheels have only been on for about a year so I’d like to think it is unrelated. I’ve been hearing the noise for a while too (I vaguely remember hearing the noise close to when I first got the wheels) so I don’t think it has to do with the wheels and most importantly it was covered under the power train warranty. I wish I could predict the future but I hope that info gives some insight. I haven’t been able to find a clear answer

    • @EliasDelvasto
      @EliasDelvasto  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks so much! So typically when you change wheels/tires you will need to adjust the speedometer. This is because when you get a bigger or smaller tire then the speedometer will read inaccurately. The speedometer needs to be tuned to the size of the wheel/tire. However, since the new diameter of the wheel/tire combo that I put on is almost identical to the stock wheel/tire combo then the speedometer didn’t need to change. If you want to be 100 percent accurate then technically the speedometer is off by about 0.1 mile per hour. I didn’t see a need to change it since it’s basically the same. I hope that helps clarify!

    • @EliasDelvasto
      @EliasDelvasto  Před 2 lety

      There definitely is a difference in the feeling of acceleration. The car feels heavier with the new tires. If I let it rev higher then it will get going. I can’t give you any solid numbers as far as power goes but I can say that I have gotten used to it now. I don’t notice it anymore but that doesn’t mean it won’t affect your trailer situation. It’s hard topic for me to speak to since I don’t tow a trailer. The Crosstrek isn’t known for power so maybe judging it based on how it currently feels with the trailer is the best way to do it. If you have power to spare even while towing then you could consider the tires but if it’s already struggling with the trailer then you might reconsider. I wish I could be more helpful

      @@EliasDelvasto Elias, thanks, below may be helpful to anyone with a CrossTrek 2021 or later limited edition. In 2021 Subaru introduced Outback 2.5 liter engine to CrossTrek line only in the limited edition. All other versions (sport, basic, etc... carried the original 2.0 liter engine). This new engine bumped the HP by about 30 and torque by about 25 lb-ft. This extra HP and torque required larger front and rear brake calipers. So, the brake calipers on the limited edition (2021 and later) are beefier than all other versions of CrossTrek with 2.0 liter engine. This means a R15 wheel even with a larger offset (40-50 mm) may rub against the brake caliper, and minimum recommended wheel size is R16 or even better R17. I didn't know any of this and ended up calling the Subaru of America assembly plant in Lafayette Indiana to finally get some clear answers.
      Having a 2021 limited edition with 2.5 liter engine I started with wanting to have exactly the same wheel/tire setup that you have because it looked nice, but was forced to go with 215 70 R16 because of the brake caliper issue. Lets just say I spent far more time on this wheel/tire search than I really wanted to. Hopefully, this may help some of your followers with 2.5 liter engine CrossTrek. What's the difference of this set up in terms of weight vs the stock set up?

    • @EliasDelvasto
      @EliasDelvasto  Před 2 lety +1

      I had to do a little bit of digging to find the numbers but my set up should weigh 46 lbs. The stock wheel and tire weighs in at 47lbs. Assuming my numbers are correct then you might save a pound or so with the new set up but it’s not a huge difference actually.

      @@EliasDelvasto thanks! And even if it’s the same, that’s still great because it looks way better than stock set up. I’m still searching for a lightweight wheels because this is already discontinued.

      Agreed! And good luck finding a good option. It’s sad that they discontinued these wheels. I know Method makes a popular option.

      I don’t think so. I’m happy with the way it looks now and I haven’t had any issues with its current height so I haven’t felt a need to look into a lift.
