IMO the Mr. Frog puppet version actually improved on the episode, with the only exception being that Mr. Frog's insane speed just isn't possible to show

It’s not that they used puppets. It’s that they clearly put a LOT of effort into those puppets. Multiple models, Glif’s spitting, the full body suits, all the extras matching.
