I feel sorry for Catherine. She may have been flimsy and childish, but she seemed good and genuine. The actress did a really good job.
Tamzin Merchant is the actress behind her
Well she is younger than princess Mary
Still cannot imagine her as the original actress that was suppose to be Daenerys Targaryen
@@allanaalberto9730 Maybe it's because we are so used to Emilia Clarke. I'm intrigued about the failed unaired pilot and I would like to watch it. However, D&D would probably would not agree to that because they're so embarrassed by it (by that logic, S8 should not have been released LOL). Many assumed that Dany and Cat were recast because they were bad actors but not a single source actually says that. The unaired pilot was just written horribly, things for the series started to get shaky and some actors moved on with other projects. I'd love to see how Tamzin played Dany because she did a great job on The Tudors. I'm quite curious about her take on the role.
@@shishi6799 book fans said that Tamzin Merchant 's features is similar to how Dany was described in the books.
Elizabeth was everything he ever wanted in a son.
Agreed.
This is why I wish that during the times only men could rule I wished they gave women a chance. Mary would’ve been a great Queen too if Henry didn’t screw up her life.
Same thoughts
@@PerfectlyImperfect93 mary suffer many humilliations ... she would have been a competent queen if henry just had raised her as his heir, and if she would have married earlier maybe the tudors still would have been the ruling family of england
Nocturnal Emission but she never married and she never had an heir
You can tell Henry was thinking of Anne. Elizabeth must remind him of her.
Faith Summers he was remembering all the mushy love stuff he said to Ann and how he didn’t mean a word of it.
Oh I am sure he was thinking of Anne. He knows his children would not be there if it were not for the women he treated so badly.
well it has been documented that Elizabeth resembled more Anne but got her red hair and temper from Henry
in some ways i think Elizabeth was Henry the viii in a dress. God works in the most mysterious of ways.
I have no doubt that that's exactly what he was thinking.
Pretty sure that Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard were cousins, which is why Elizabeth and Katherine always had a type of connection. It is also said that Katherine’s death was the reason for Elizabeth to remain unmarried.
There is a big chance they were. Most of the royal families of Europe were, and still are, related
The half blood Princess I knew a lot of lads like Elizebeth so she kept her self to her self and then something to do with her being married to the country as well, Kathriens death will of had a huge part as well though
@@JHowesitgoing123 I also think that's true. I mean she lived for 70 years, she wasn't a nun and I believe she had sex with dudley. But I don't judge her, ofc
anne and catherine are really cousins and catherine is elizabeths aunt
or stepmom now
Yes, they are cousins. Anne's mother was a Howard
That look Henry gave Elizabeth as she was leaving, he was clearly thinking of Anne
Stevie John it broke my heart 💔💔RIP Anne
He truly love Anne Boleyn in his mind and Anne Boleyn was Henry true love
Linden Sims yeah💔
He pretty much banished Anne his heart and mind from the moment of her execution and never mentioned her name again.
I think Catherine was expecting Mary to meet with her also... So I think Henry is thinking of that....
When it comes to marrige with her wives ... Mary has the only issues of it.... But she has nothing to do with it
But I'm not pretty sure hehe
Elizabeth masterfully at conceals her disdain for Henry under a veneer of courtesy. She reminds me of Sansa Stark's motto "Courtesy is a lady's armour".
@coynie3 Indeed. Both of them ended up as queens against the all odds and neither of them wed a consort. Both had their family members killed and had to learn how to play the game in order to survive on the court. Even the color of their hair is the same.
Pretty sure G.R.R.M confirmed that Sansa was inspired by Elizabeth I. A lot of what he writes is History based because he’s a huge history buff!
In the books Sansa basically goes undercover as Little Finger’s bastard after she flees King’s Landing for the Vale.
@@TheMixrs Difference was Sansa was a good person and Elizabeth was a mass murdering psychopath like her father.
@@jonathanxavier2026 Sansa good person? Yes betrayed the confidence of her brother it's a good act and conspire against her queen before meeting and judging her for the crimes of her parents too. She is not so different from the court that treated her as a "traitor's seed" after all, and doesn't even respect the phrase "the north remembers" because it is the justification they give to her actions but then why she didn't remember (and recognized / thanked) what the queen did for her own people? Dude
Pd: I'm not a Sansa hater, in fact she's my favorite character in the books but not in the series and yes, I admire Queen Elizabeth I a lot and I'll continue to defend her from ignorant comments like this, more if you compare her to a character like Sansa Stark (tv series).
Except Elizabeth actually had intelligence
"Your Majesty. Congratulations on being queen number five. Let us hope there will not be a number six."
🤣🤣🤣🤣😭
Catherine Parr : =D
Catherine Parr: *allow me to introduce myself*
@ Mark Stockford: Your majesty, welcome to court. Watch your back. Most importantly, watch your neck.
"Don't let your position go to your Head..."
We gonna ignore how in real life when Katherine married Henry he was obese, old and ugly. Not the charming guy in this video
Nelly M absolutely, and historians say, impotent.
Nelly M true
I heard Henry used to be charmin but gain weight
True
I'm pretty sure he was considered to be a attractive king and only gained weight later on in his reign
He always gives a look when he sees Elizabeth, like the ghost of Anne is behind her or something. I really think that Henry and Ann were in love.
Then why did he behead her
Love turns sour sometimes and you can't explain the insanity. He probably truly believed what his advisors were feeding him about her. He changed the world for her and she betrayed him, that's all he saw.
And to further add to that, he had a really hard time divorcing Katherine in order to be with Anne. He wanted nothing more than a male heir and I believe he was losing faith in Anne’s ability to give him that so when his advisors told him she was being unfaithful he ran with it so he had an excuse to end his marriage to her without a divorce process so he could marry Jane.
That’s my theory but I could also see the possibility that he just felt betrayed.
Maybe a little of each reason led to his decision
Elyscehastie Hastie he had a brain injury to the frontal lobe. It can cause changes in behavior
And crippling depression he could be dealing with the pain from the resulting injuries. Especially the ulcers that apparently no one competent was caring for.
Elizabeth I was ever the politician, even when she was a young girl! Henry DID get the heir he wanted, it was just a woman.
@ Elizabeth F: Absolutely.
@@zoefang4563 Yes, she sure did. Henry wanted a son so badly, he even murdered his wife Anne Boleyn, because she couldn't give him a son. How ironic that his daughter ended up being a better ruler than any son he could have had. Better than Henry, Mary and Edward put together. Henry was a psycho, Mary burned all those poor people because of her fanatic Catholic beliefs, and Edward wanted a militant, Protestant state, most likely under something like marshal law. Elizabeth combined all of their good qualities and was such a rock star of her time!
@@ElizabethF2222 No, he'd have disliked Elizabeth immensely because she never married and continued the dynasty. Instead she gave away England to the Scottish crown, which would've really pissed off Henry.
@@cg8397 Well that's true from Henry's perspective as all he ever cared about was having a son to carry on the dynasty. Elizabeth didn't do that, of course, but no one can deny she as a great Queen during her reign.
I think Elizabeth might have remembered him to Ann thats why he was staring at her at the end.
Yes that's what I think too :) Anne was a Very important woman in his life .
Kathyy20 yes compare her curtsy to her mother s. Complete with the look at the end
He was in awe of her maturity level, intelligence, and confidence at such a young age. (At least per the history books 🙂)
I love how Elizabeth actress picked up some of the little traits that Anne's character used. The way she curtsies etc, almost flirtatiously.
@Nenethegreat W are you going to be okay
Elizabeth receiving a neckless from a royal, just as Anne did back then. I think that was what Henry was remembering.
I’m not kidding! Edward is adorable! And Elizebeth literally has that Anne Bolyne vibe! Like I can literally see Anne in her! Am I sounding crazy?
Fantasy Lover you’re not crazy you’re CORRECT
Awww yay! Happy I am! 😊 I love Anne Bolyne and Elizabeth❤️
Becouse, Anne Lived in her.
Anne had le last laugh.
Henry remember Anne Boleyn
シAsiaシ Yes she did
A father can’t wish more than having a daughter like Elizabeth, I think Henry saw in Elizabeth at that moment what he has always wanted, a true heir, but just never noticed.
I think like shao 19851 too . Maybe your father do that because you threaten his supremacy and elegance at home don't stop because of his opinion.... at the end he will be happy and proud of you
True
Notice the way he looks at Elizabeth when she walks away…
He sees Anne. He sees his crimes against Anne.
Anne’s ghost following him and seeing him through Elizabeth. He knows it.
My Elizabeth shall be queen, and my blood well spent!
Anne of the Thousand Days...That is one of my favorite movies.
Ah, the last line in your comment from Anne of the Thousand Days, amazing and magnificent movie where Genevieve Bujold portrayed as Anne Boleyn
@@nealdominicduenasibanez5998 she’s my all time favorite Anne Boleyn!
Elizabeth was so good here, putting up a facade to hide her hatred for Katherine. She almost made it seem like she was genuine with her courteousness. Queen Anne Boleyn’s daughter indeed.
Fun fact: In real life back then, Elizabeth legitimately liked her 3rd stepmother and they loved each other as if they were siblings. She also witnessed Queen Katherine getting dragged away at court by the guards and she never forgave her father for it.
Why did you say she hates Katherine? They were cousins, did they both not know?.. and I agree she has contempt at that meeting but I think it was for her father who she always resented for Kipling her mother
Elizabeth's relationship with Kate was harmonious, but she never hated her I heard from somewhere that she was sad about Kate's beheading and she learned her lesson that marriage was a dangerous thing for a woman at the time, Kate was one of the reasons why Elizabeth decided to take her father's cursed bloodline with her becoming the greatest monarch of England
@@meganbateman5634 Elizabeth became a great queen but she also sacrifice her love for her childhood friend Robbie. (Robert dudley)
Why do you say she hates Catherine? She was related by blood to her!
@@Angie2343 In the show, it’s implied that Elizabeth detested Queen Catherine like Mary. But in real life, they were close as sisters.
The way Henry stares at Elizabeth you can tell he misses Anne as Elizabeth was said to resemble Anne
No, she had Anne's eyes, but otherwise looked just like Henry. Pale skin and light red hair.
@@spencerfrankclayton4348Yes, that is why nobody really believed Henry's claims that he didn't know if Elizabeth was his daughter - she was the absolute spit of him. Their relationship was obvious to all
I pity all of Henry's wives. In the end, they were all his victims--except maybe (emphasis on MAYBE) Anne of Cleves, who narrowly avoided becoming a victim and got wealth and prestige out of it. Good for her!
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_of_Cleves
It's just too bad she didn't get to marry again afterwards and maybe have a family of her own
@@ddthewolf It wasn't possible because one of the grounds for her divorce was a precontract for marriage to a foreign duke. By agreeing to the terms of the divorce and signing the papers, she acknowledged that existed. Therefore, until the duke died, she was precontracted to be married and therefore unable to wed again
@@MsJubjubbird I think AOC was very smart to agree to the divorce so graciously. I'm pretty sure she weighed her options and figured the best one was to let Henry go, take the money and estates and go quietly. Plus, she didn't have to sleep with him with those infected legs. Ugh. Smart of her because she and Henry remained good friends and she was known as the "king's beloved sister" and died a very wealthy divorced single woman (not a widow,), unheard of in those times. She left her servants money too for their good service to her. What a lovely gesture. 💕💕 Love her!!
Seeing Catherine with Edward, makes me wonder what kind of mother she would have been had she had a child of own. I like to think she would have been a good one, the kind that would have played and doted on her child.

@@tayw3850 I saw it in another comment 😅
@@Megasaurusify Oh, thank you! Edited it
Katherine was also believed to be 16-17 when she was made queen and she looks a lot older. I think the reason Elizabeth looks older is the way she is dressed and mostly how mature she is
Everyone can see that Henry always reminded Anne when Elizabeth was around
That is true Henry still love Anne Boleyn
“They are not of much value but will remind you of me.”
Girl, you just said a mouthful.
She hold herself with the same grace her mother did.
I feel like it was both, that he saw a little of ann and also potential in her.
2:11 - Henry sees the future of England, the grace an charm an wisdom of his true love Anne. He probably sees here in his daughter.
After elizabeth came to court later on as a teen, henry was very impressed her, an commisioned painting, which told a fine story of her progress.
I like how bubbly and happy Catherine Howard is here despite what she had already gone through in life… it’s such a shame that life ended so soon she really looks like she’s good with children😢
Other than an unpleasant marriage, which many high ranking women had to deal with then, life had been ok. Doubt she missed her father, though probably her mother dying affected her more. Lots of poor choices from herself, the staff and her guardians.
@@MsJubjubbirdyou cant blame her for being manipulated by so many men in her life. She started being sexually abused at the age of 13. It wasn't her choice. She was manipulated by someone much older than her and this pattern continued throughout her life
@@musicaltheatreproduction8812 habit she wasn't sexually abused. She very likely made that up to save her bacon in her final testimony, which completely contradicts her first and everyone elses. Her music lessons included two other people and in no way was a Steff member like Henry able to initiate meeting her in private, let alone romancing her or getting physical. Plus there are witness accounts of her seeking him out and giving him gifts. He also was likely only about five years older than her, given the age of his peers.
@@MsJubjubbird 1. He was 30 2. She was being groomed which is why she was buying and giving him gifts 3. She was not lying, there was proof and 4. Henry still decided to marry a literal 17 year old
@@musicaltheatreproduction8812 nah he was more likely 19 or so, based on the documentation. It's just a story people have embellished because it sounds better. Plus there was a second teacher and a chaperone. She would have to instigate any meeting with Henry, being the granddaughter of a duke and he just a servant. Same with any touching or anything. As for Henry Tudor marrying a young woman, that was pretty normal for then, especially a widow. Men wanted as.many heirs as possible to ensure the legacy, hence they married fertile women. Consider Henry had only one son and a precarious dynasty won by force.
The little boy they hired to play Edward really is adorable. That little face just melts my heart---then makes me sad when I think about how short Edward's life turned out to be.
Elizabeth: I will always cherish it.

In that last bow, Henry saw Anne.
Raj Padmanabhan YES
No, he just realized how much he loves his daughter
It’s thing like Henry always keeping him bundled up and out of sight that I think many young princes died from illness at such a young age. They were so protected that were unable to develop an immune system strong enough to fight away illness. Just a theory but I think it combined with poor medical care contributed greatly.
As Jane’s ghost says at the end “he will die young and you have killed him”
Girls survived childhood more often than boys, they're not sure why but they did.

@@bobbyb7979 They cared less about the girls. Guessing the girls weren't as over protected and allowed to develop heathier. At least until the noble and royal ones got pregnant. Then they were so protected that they were smothered to death in a way.
In the last scene he was thinking of Anne because of you go back to the first season when Henry first layer eyes on Anne she did that exact same curtesy and smirk
Elizabeth is the Son he always wanted, how strange that a Male he wanted would be a Female.
no! Elizabeth didnt became the son he hoped for all this life ... she was a successful FEMALE!!!
@@moranbracha7009 She was a heir but just a female, you don't get it. Edward fied early, Mary didn't last long and Elizabeth really made England strong.
I wish I could hug Catherine, give her all the kisses and protect her from all the pain man did to her. 🥺❤️
In every scene Elizabeth shows up in front of her father he looks at her with a long stare. Sometimes I feel its a stare of shame or pity for how she was neglected and declared bastard after her mother’s execution. When she grew up he was slowly realising how precious she is.
Edward Tudor is so cute!
Belen Yesica In the show. In real life he was smart, cold and calculating. I’d love to watch a series (or mini series, considering how young he was when he died) about him. Does that exist already, I wonder?
When he watches Elizabeth walk away he can see Anne walking away and him getting lost in staring at her... 😭😭 he has so many regrets
I thought the stare initially looked a little spooked, but then gradually became sad.
Lol the real Elizabeth was seven years old when Catherine Howard was queen
reportedly she actually really like catherine howard, since she wasn't that much older than her. it's supposedly after Henry executed Catherine H that Elizabeth in her grief vowed she would never marry (i learned this through my research for my master's thesis on anne boleyn)
also the tudors played very fast and loose with timelines. they had elizabeth at 4 when anne was executed because they just wanted her to be aware of what was going on....David Starkey had a number of fits over their adjusted timelines lol.
Well, it's understandable. They had a lot of years to cover and only 4 seasons to do it. Nevertheless they were able to get a lot of significant historical events in the show but still keeping it fresh & interesting, so it remains my favorite. P.S. I'd absolutely love to read your master's thesis on Anne! Could you upload it somewhere when you finish writing it? Please
7 years old and she has proper manners in her fingertips while others have lungs
@@michellegreen4743 Oh,so that was the real reason behind her vow to remain celibate for the rest of her life?!I always thought she did it because of Anne's execution but then again Elizabeth might have still been a toddler when Anne was executed so it doesn't really makes sense
The Actress who played Teenage Elizabeth is a Beautiful Redhead.
Henry’s stare at Elizabeth wasn’t that he saw Anne. He stared because he saw Elizabeth’s beauty, grace, intelligence, and strength. He saw what she could be. In an earlier scene in the show, he gives her a book by a Roman Historian whom he himself used to read.
@NewBudget I couldn't agree more. I think that he also released something else. How much he loves his daughter
Also, concerning the very same show at the end of the franchise’s finale when Anne’s ghost came to him he said that every time he looks at Elizabeth he sees her (Anne)
I honestly think it’s both. During season two, when he goes to visit Elizabeth, he turns to lady Bryan and says she might one day preside over empires.
The little boy who plays Edward has to be one of the cutest boys I’ve seen! 😍
Elizabeth just made henry remember ann.
Kacie Thornton she curtsies just like her mother
I believe that Henry always try to avoid Elizabeth for reason that she reminds him to much of Anne and that he truly regrets her execution it’s as if he can see that she’ll grow to be something greater than any son
Henry VIII knows that if he and her were ever to get into a argument it would be really bad for both of them.
Elizabeth would bring a sense of shame. Mary was the child he had with his first wife of royal blood and doted on her for years. Elizabeth was the child created with the woman he abandoned his wife of twenty years for and got himself excommunicated with in the process, only to then need to execute the woman herself.
That stare at Liz at the end, Henry remembered Anne Boleyn by that Bow.
He saw Anne for a minute.
Disagree - he was obviously staring because he'd never seen anyone's back before in his life.
LMAO-
It's obviously her crimped hair
You know he was thinking of Anne there at the end...
Catherine is so sweet
Katherine meeting Edward is just the cutest thing ever
Edit: I just love Katherine shes so sweet-
Meanwhile the ghost of Anne was present in this scene and tried to give Catherine a sign to run
2:20 That look Henry gave to Elizabeth, it was as if he was seeing Anne in her. Elizabeth was refined and sophisticated in her interaction to his current queen, in other ways she was better than Anne, more shrewder than Anne and more level-headed because she knows that her father doesn’t care for her.
Elizabeth inherited the best from both parents. Anne’s hallucination to Henry mentions that she neglected her at first because she was desperate to give him a son; then realizing she was the only pure light in her world. Anne mentioned that she’s proud of Elizabeth and she has inherited her better temperament.
Elizabeth inherited Anne’s shrewdness and Anne’s charismatic nature as well as her brains. This helps her in gaining power and keeping her image as the Virgin Queen.
what season and episode is this? hope you can answer asap. thanks!
Some of Henry's traits helped her, too. She loved many of the same pastimes such as hunting, riding, falconing; she had her father's passionate temper; "brash imperiousness" when she would be questioned and doubted by men during her reign; and brains from both parents. Yes, Henry was known as an intellectual when he was young. Elizabeth also was outgoing and vivacious like him when he was young.
O'Henry saw his daughter courtesy reminder of remind him of Anne Boleyn
Henry never forgot Anne! She was his True live😭😭
Elizabeth really inherited the charisma and grace of her mother. Damn, I hope Henry regrets what he did
I love how Kathrine was so kind to Edward and used the fan on Henry and was playing peekaboo
What I believe is that Henry was always so hard on Elizabeth because she reminded him so much of Anne, and I also believe the out of all 6 of his wives he loved Anne the most
I always thought too, what a powerful family they could have been if he hadn’t done what he did, but then again, we might of not gotten the badass Queen Elizabeth 🤷🏻♀️
He did divorce his 1st wife and the Pope for her.
I love the actress who played young Elizabeth here and throughout the rest of the series. She is so beautiful and fits so well with how I invasion the great Queen of England would look when she was young.
The actress they chose as teenage Elizabeth really did her justice.
She is definitely not going to blossom into a cate blanchette. She looks more like carrot top
I think Elizabeth and Edward would like to have Katherine Haward and Katherine Parr as mother.
i love scenes like this. We . as viewers , know what the future holds for Elizabeth and in Henrys gaze we get to share with him that same vision.
Watched all episodes again over 10 yrs later an it's as good if not better than the first time around. JRM as Henry VIII was brilliant casting. Excellent quality.

Elizabeth was beautiful as a young girl.
I love how they made her a young girl. Because she really was. Poor thing.
Hel never loved any of his wives the way he loved anne
Megan Shell he only loved Jane because she gave him a son
He did love C of A as well, at least at the start of their marriage. He wrote to the Duke of Suffolk shortly after their marriage describing her as "my most well-beloved spouse." And don't forget about him riding in tournaments for her as "Sir Loyal Heart."
By his own word he loved Jane Seymour most of all, I believe.
JFrog I started thinking that but then if Jane died and gave him a doughter would he have cried as much naaaa naaaa
@@jazzycat8917 But it is worth noting that Jane died shortly after childbirth and was the only one to give Henry a son. It's difficult to know if he truly loved her or if he loved her for securing the Tudor lineage (which ironically he did not.) He was not with Jane long enough to grow tired of her or disappointed by her actions, so who knows?
Catherine Howard and Elizabeth were related through Anne. Wonder if ole Henry ever thought of that.
The way she moves away is the same like the mothers. She also smiled like her. The king was shoked because it was like Ann herself meeting the king again
I can’t take my eyes from actor playing Henry, he has mesmerizing face and drop dead magic eyes
I love this scene i can tell Henry missed Anne so much
Irl Anne and Henry were both redheads (Anne was a dark auburn) so it makes sense Elizabeth has red hair
but in the show you’re left to think”Where tf did the red hair come from?”
I just find it funny that although almost all the Tudors had red/blonde hair, Elizabeth is the only iconic one. No one has ever portrayed her as anything else.
Even Catherine of Aragon had light hair!
When Henry looks at Elizabeth and the way she carries herself, all he can think of is Anne Boleyn. Idky but that is satisfying to me knowing how badly he screwed up and how she went on to become one of the best rulers the world has ever known.
The way king Henry viii look at Elizabeth when she walks away reminds him of Anne
The Katherine and Edward moment was adorable🥺
Oh,She seemed so nice back then..Especially to his ex wives children.I hope she loved children like that back then..She deserved better.. :(
she didn't get on with Mary. But understandable as what grown woman in her twenties wants a stepmother of eighteen.
The reason I had a good connection with Elizabeth was because I was and still am her Auntie.

It’s weird to think that this guy was the son of the man who defeated Richard III.
Henry may of been buried with jame but the one he loved most will always be anne, in short he turned the whole country upside down for her..
Poor Cath she died too young plus she was a good queen even though she courted other young men.
You can see he thought of Anne at that.moment
Tamzin Merchant is what I actually imagine Catherine Howard must have looked like!!!
Henry saw on Elizabeth because he saw Anne at her behavior. Henry was really a psychopath but he loved Anne Boleyn with his heart

Every time he sees Elizabeth, he sees her mother in her.
elizabeth when she meets the final wife:here we go again
I haven't actually watched the Tudors in full but I will keep coming back to this clip just for cute little Edward 🥲
Elizabeth looks like her father, even Mary Edward don't look like him in reality. She looks like her father and has the certain charm, aura of Anne. Is she wouldn't be so traumatised by the history she saw with all the women she would definitely be married, have so many kids and would act even more like Henry and Anne carefree but since she decided to be wed to England her way of presence changed for sure and she was elizabeth. And when he looks at Elizabeth he's getting flashbacks he doesn't even do with mary only with Elizabeth. Also is it just me or when Henry talks to Elizabeth or look at her he feels guilty but covers up that with father and king act. When he looks at her he gets lost
I agree. He does seem lost our regretful for what he did. I believe everytime he looked at Elizabeth, he thought of Anne. Deep down he knew she was innocent but he wanted a son so bad with Jane and the rest is history 😟
When your step mom is younger then you...

The way Henry looked at Elizabeth when she was leaving was like he saw Anne behind her
Katherine was like an older sister to Elizabeth. Elizabeth never really got over Katherines death according to history
