It's supposed to signify that she's probably the most mature queen Henry has had since his first wife Catherine of Aragon. Especially in contrast to his immature previous wife Katherine.
Henry didn't seem to marry Parr out of lust like he normally does, but simply because she was suitable.Besides Catherine of Aragon she was the only one to act as Regeant while Henry was away. Anne Boleyn would have been capable of this also, but likely would have gotten herself killed even faster since everyone hated her. She was way to outspoken.

Young royals were rarely brought to court to protect their health. Henry largely ignored Elizabeth due to his resentment of Anne. Such an underrated character. Even Catherine Howard has more fans even though she's only a child with no interesting attributes. Catherine Parr on the other hand is an amazing woman. I never understood why she's not admired like Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, or Jane Seymour. She is intelligent and has a political figure just like Catherine. She shares similar values to Anne. And she acts obedient to keep her head just as Jane did. She's the combination of all the women Henry ever loved. I think he chose her as his final five because he felt guilty for all the things he did to his past wives. He made amends by marrying Catherine Parr. Also, it is known that Catherine of Aragon was the godmother of Catherine Parr and Parr was named after her. The connection between them and the fact that their character is so similar may indicate that Henry went through all those wives just to end up with one just like CoA. I think he considered CoA as his one true love and loved her more than anyone else.

There’s a reason why the producers of TT, didn’t want to show Henry 8th real aging & gout. It would showcase how ugly he really is/was.

I see majority of comments have said, King henry VIII does not look like that, yes it is true but when he didnt eat like that, it was a leg injury when he 44 when he was young he was known to be very fit, muscular and athletic, the leg injury caused him to avoid exercise, he got used to it and started having 13 heavy meals a day!
I hope that answers your question.

I think everyone's aware of that. But people mean that as an older man, Henry did not look the way he is portrayed here. So, the question is, why did they not get someone who looked more like him to play him as an older man?

@@SR-iy4gg Because "The Tudors" was meant to be entertainment, not historically accurate. If they portrayed King Henry as he really was, the show probably would have lost its ratings because fans would be turned off. Its no secret Henry was a gross slob in his later years.

King Henry VIII was actually a very good looking man in his youth when he was more athletic and fit. He did have an accident later in life which affected his mobility but Henry would have still been able to stay in decent shape if he didn't eat and drink the way he did.

They have Catherine right correctly as she was highly intelligent , yet JRM is ludicrous as Henry viii was hugely overweight & his legs were in full badges due to Ulcers he would’ve had a full on blown diabetes he couldn’t walk and had to be carried and he was always with his fool summers

They're not. It was tradition that the leftovers were given to the servants, and their leftovers were in turn given to beggars at the kitchen door. Nothing was wasted. Hygiene was pretty poor back then and nobody had an issue with eating food that someone else had already had a bite of.

@chooseyourpoison5105 that is true but i read where Henry was a glutton beyond the imagination i think he weighted over 400 pounds when he died, ulcers, diabetes, gout complications from a jousting accident and so much more. Catherine was more of a nursemaid than wife to him. But she knew how to calm him down best.

Of course, filmed in a modern American accent so that it can be understood by a modern audience. I wonder what the conversation really sounded like. Probably incomprehensible without subtitles.

I doubt it would have been incomprehensible. They spoke modern English, the language of Shakespeare. They weren't still speaking old or middle English. Also, I don't think you meant to say "modern American accent." This has nothing to do with American or accents.

@@kendralynn897 If you can understand Shakespeare, then you could certainly understand Henry VIII! They were all speaking and writing modern English. Now if it had been Old English, yes, that would be difficult for us. Middle English would have been easier, but still challenging. Chaucer wrote in Middle English.
