      Many women who lived past 40 were nuns or childless women such as Elizabeth. Anne of Cleves also died at 42 and she was considered old for the time. Mary maybe old but she was very frail from early on; sickly, to be exact.
      Her symptoms was all kinds of ache and pain from her childhood continued to her adulthood
      She was bedridden many times and each time longer than the last.
      Some suspected she died of cancer since the growth in her stomach was huge enough to mistaken for pregnancy.
      Perhaps inherited cancer gene from her mother, since Catherine of Aragon bedridden and died in similar manner.

    I mean, I know this isn't historically accurate but I CAN actually imagine him saying something like 'My son needs his mother.' It's documented that Henry was extremely close to his mother, Elizabeth of York, since he was her second son and allowed to stay at his mother's side unlike his older brother, Arthur, who was meant to inherit the throne. Losing his mother was a pivotal moment in Henry's life and it was said that he was absolutely grief stricken and angry at his father and closest advisors for perhaps pressuring his mother into trying to get pregnant again and have another 'spare' male heir just in case anything should happen to Henry, which is apt considering how much pressure he put on each of his wives to produce male heirs.
    I think thanks to medical research we have today that it's pretty much fact that major head traumas he received over the years thanks to jousting played a huge part in what he became BUT, I also think losing his mother played a part too. It's impossible to say that she would have been able to control him (certainly not) BUT I do believe she would have been a good influence on him and he may well have listened to her. Perhaps, in his last moments with Jane, he realised that his son would need his mother just like he had needed/wanted his.

He had her beheaded and stripped Elizabeth of growing up with a mother. Henry was an awful and selfish man, each and every one of his wives deserved better than him. Anne gave Henry his most successful child and she grew up to become one of the most important English monarchs in history. They were whisked away to be pretty much raised by a bevy of attendants and teachers, and only saw their parents on high holidays and very special ceremonial occasions. Catherine of Aragon, a Spaniard, broke with that tradition by keeping Mary close to her. I think it's interesting that he held Jane on a pedestal because she gave birth to a son. She died essentially a hot-minute later, but he still viewed her as this superior woman who gave him a son. And yes, Edward *did* live longer than most of his previous sons from Catherine, but he wasn't to know that Edward would last that long (fifteen years isn't "long", though I think people would get my point) at the time he was born. He put her on this pedestal immediately after the birth, but *Catherine* gave him sons; it's just that they died as infants. Edward could have died as an infant, too. Henry wasn't to know.

    By the time Jane finally concieved, almost 7 months into the marriage, Henry was already starting to tire of her. He took a mistress within the first three months of marriage, so it was her saving grace that she managed to concieve Edward, when she did. Her dying in childbirth was probably for the best, because sooner rather than later Henry would have turned on her. Jane really was nothing more than a footnote in history đŸ€· Henry didn't love her, he didn't love anyone else than himself. If he ever had a heart, its rotten away. As for Edward, he loved what he represented, he didn't love the boy for himself.

    • @KikiChic19

      There's no recorded mistress during Henry's marriage to Jane. He made a joke about wishing he met beautiful women before he married Jane but beyond that, there is no evidence of extramarital affairs. Henry even confided in Chapuys that he himself was unsure of his ability to sire more children. If Henry was tiring of Jane prior to her being pregnant, then he had a funny way of showing it. Jane announced her pregnancy in January 1537, and in December 1536, it was noticed by the court that Henry's personal life was happy and stable. The king enjoyed the company of both of his daughters at Christmas, and Jane promoted their reconciliation.

    I feel terrible for Jane Seymour. She was one of the kindest, seemingly adoring of all of Henry's wives. She gave him a son and it cost her her very life. Like so many others here, I agree that Henry would've grown tired of her at some point.
    Onto my real point, though. Henry finally gained the son he always wanted. The irony? The only sons he ever had died young. But both of his daughters lived. Elizabeth became one of the best rulers in England's history.

    RIP Queen Jane Seymour. You adored Katherine & Mary and gave Anne Boleyn a taste of her own medicine. Elizabeth is just lucky that Jane did not give her that harsh treatment Mary was given, just did not embrace Elizabeth the way she did with Mary. You bore him a son and championed Mary's cause when she went through those years of hell due to Anne Boleyn's usurpation. Henry went through all that hassle with Anne Boleyn only to not get the one thing she truly needed to secure her and her family's position in court. Jane Seymour on the other hand achieved her and her family's goals. If only Jane didn't die during child birth. Yes, i'm not a fan of Anne Boleyn, in fact a hater, as she would have killed Mary once she bore him a son "Once I have a son, I know what would happen to her". To all the Anne kids, kindly do not get triggered as everyone has their own opinions.

      @tracieivey2397 Pƙed rokem +1

      A taste of her own medicine? Anne was horrible to Catherine and Mary, yes, but I think people forget she actually tried to avoid Henry by fleeing home numerous times. Additionally, when a king is proposing marriage, you saying no means your family can and likely will be punished. It's far too easy to blame Anne, but no one seems to blame Henry for setting up this entire horrific situation. Anne would have never had Mary killed; to do so would have caused the Catholics of England and the Spanish nation after England. Jane was no angel; she engaged in a deliberate campaign to have Anne removed from power, and paid the ultimate price, like Anne did, for Henry's lust falling upon her.

    • @iman98only
      @iman98only Pƙed rokem +3

      @@tracieivey2397 Anne would definitely have Mary killed. She did say "If I have a son, I know what would happen to her". I am glad Jane Seymour and her family gave Anne and her family a taste of their own medicines. Anne's family, especially her Uncle Howard are an extremely power greedy bunch and Katherine Howard paid the price as well due to it. Poor Katherine Howard, it was never her fault to begin with. Jane died of childbed fever so u can't say that she paid the price like Anne did. Jane and her family's position in court were fully secured after Jane gave birth to Henry's long-awaited son. Henry would definitely still have a bunch of mistresses, perhaps may eventually be tired of Jane, but Jane would have been his queen for life, he would never get rid of her the way he did with Anne. Moreover, of course I do not just blame the other woman, it takes two to tango.
