I've been to Latvia in 2018 and nobody believes me that they have better beaches than in most of those typical summer vacation destinations, also sea was not that cold as people expect from Baltic sea. They have literally 50 m wide beaches with sand soft like flour, especially in Jurmala it looks almost like some kitsch from postcard, but it really looks like that in reality. But not everywhere, we've been somewhere more north from Riga and there was sand looking more like from kid's playground, more gross and with little pieces of wood, but still comfortable to walk in, you don't need shoes like in Croatia where it's impossible to get to the sea without shoes. 😀
I completely agree Ondrej, this is a hidden gem👍👌
north from riga so Saulkrasti?
@@Crediu Yes, exactly. 🙂 Some bad weather caught us there, it was raining, but some people were still swimming in the sea. 🙂
Try Liepāja. So much better than Jūrmala. Both central beach and then Karosta.
The exact same trip my wife and i did last week. Such a beautiful place🇱🇻🇱🇻
Yes, the beaches are one of the best there. In my humble opinion anyway. 😀 I didn’t go to Jūrmala often simply because we have a summerhouse near the beach little bit further up north. But it’s the same white, soft sand and beautiful pine tree forest near it. And no bars etc, which is a plus as it was more quiet and more peaceful. One of the best feelings in summer is laying on a beach, listening to the sound of waves and watching the white clouds in the blue sky above. Miss it so much. Thanks for another video and bringing back good memories! 🙂
Thank you Ines for watching and commenting... I am so happy you liked the video😉
I agree, it is an amazing place and a great way to spend the summer.
When are you going to Brussels?
@@J.E.E We are not sure yet, because there’s a wedding now coming up soon. So we might have to postpone the trip a little bit.
@@J.E.E Great video but please learn Latvian, the country is Latvia nott Russia, it's the national language.
I'm from Latvia and i live in a town close to Jūrmala. I have walked through those beaches in winter and they're still beautiful! But Latvia's beaches are very peaceful and just overall good beaches!🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻
Great video, Justin. Loved that tree cake - never seen anything like it. And what a lovely couple you met - so nice watching how people get drawn in by your languages - it's rare that you can't surprise someone with one of your vocabs. A serious skill you have there! Loving the content!
Man if the Latvian Tourism board had any sense they would hire you immediately
excellent video my friend! one more reason to go to Latvia! I like this country a lot!

Yes mate it is fantastic .
Do you live in Latvia?
The only time I would really be in Jurmala is when I would pass by on a train, it is very nice to see parts of the country I have never seen before

You literally made my day ! 😊
I am so happy the videos are having a good impact, thanks for the comments
Thank you! I really enjoyed your video!
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍😃
Jurmala seems to me has a very Russian atmosphere. Perhaps left over from the Soviet Occupation era. One of our interns at office said she went there with her grandmother from Moldavia as a reward for making her quota at work when she was little girl.
Jurmala is beautiful, tnx for sharing
Agreed… thanks for watching my friend! 👍👌
Fantastic video, love your enthusiasm of life and meeting people.

Fab video (as always). I was actually in Jūrmala a few months ago. Lovely place and amazing beach. But I was there in June so wasn’t quite warm enough to fully swim.🤣
Hello Jack… thanks so much for watching my friend! You should definitely try and go back next year later in the summer and have a swim😆👍👌
Interesting :) I would like you to visit Kuldīga, which is a town I wanted to visit when I was on vacation in July this year, but unfortunately there was insufficient time to do so. I also think the language is cool and very fun to speak, and it would be interesting to hear the Kurzeme dialect.
Thanks Justin, great video yet again Keep them coming mate looking forward to part 2 👍
Hello Paul, so happy you enjoyed it.
Will be posting it shortly👍👌
Great Vid again, mate. Glad to see you with no symptoms.
My travel to my birthtown Gdansk 2 weeks ago enden in covid infection. Not funny this sh... so enjoy :D
Respect bro
Thank you for great video. 18:10 that is Lielupe river not Mārupe. Although "upe" does mean "river", Mārupe is a city but not a river.
Thank you mate... Yes, marupe is near the airport.... Always confusing the two👍👌
There are four Polish deli's near me and they sell "Chrusciki" made at a Lithuanian family-owned bakery. They have the tree style packaged in cellophane wraps or boxed, "Angel Wings" style you buy by weight, or boxes of thin square sheets all covered with powdered sugar. They are so delicious and can only be described as tasting similar to a crispy powdered sugar cake donut.
Nice to see that my friend is wandering in my hometown!
Great place my friend👍👌
Another very very good video jk
Thanks for all the support my friend!👍👌
I'll be visiting Riga next week! Really looking forward to it, who knows might get a cheeky photo with you if I'm lucky! 😂

Hi Shawn,
A special thanks to you for supporting the channel with the super thanks.
I only just realised what that was, so excuse my earlier message where I neglected to mention it.
All the best mate👍
latia has such lovley beaches
Yes it really does… Thanks for watching my friend!👍👌
Very good video, we will wait for you in the city where the wind is born - Liepāja. The sand on Liepāja's beach is even whiter than in Jurmala. We are waiting for you to visit! 😉👌
I have been to Riga twice and stayed in a nice new hotel that came with breakfast, it was very close to the sports stadium. I was only paying something like 13 pounds a night but I expect that prices have changed since then. I met an Englishman from Brighton who came to Riga with his Latvian friend and they were staying in the same hotel so invited me to take the train to Jurmala. It was a sensible decision and I remember many of the scenes that I saw in your video. The beach and sand were amazing but it was in October and it was absolutely FREEZING! I remember how we waited for the return train from Jurmala to Riga and the wind was terrible. There is also a car museum in the outskirts of Riga and you can actually see there a Rolls Roys driven and written off by Brezhnev! On the whole, I liked Vilnius and Tallkin more, I found Riga a bit cold and austere but I suppose that in winter most of Eastern Europe is not very inviting. As you like markets, the inside of the old Zeppelin hangers that are used as an inside market would be of interest to you. Possibly, in another video, you have been there too but the hangers were taken down and rebuilt on that site and they seem to make one of the most visited places in Riga.
I would like to travel more to Eastern Europe but coming from the south of London, it is a hard thing to do as mainly it is only Ryanair that flies there and that means a long trek all the way to Stansted in Essex.
Great to see this video about Latvia and Jurmala. I’m from England and my wife is Latvian, we go to Dzintari almost every year apart from in covid times. Ligua or Ligo is great to go to Latvia for too.
3:30 - 3:40 I noticed cold soup/ pink soup. My wife loves it but I absolutely hate it 😂😂🤢🤢
Great video. Thanks
i realy liked your jurmala trip ive been in jurmala once but i only we been in livu waterpark
Hello my friend… Thanks so much for watching and commenting! You should give it another visit when you can!👍👌
Looks very nice there at the beach! Those bar staff didn't seem overly warm though, a distinct lack of eye contact!
It is very nice... Staff was good, but it takes time for them to thaw a little🤣
@@J.E.E I will remember that 😁
HA! As soon as you pointed out the Hendrick's gin bottle flower pot I knew you were going to order your "GinTonic".
Haha you know it mate!🤣👍👌
Am a fan of your channel. What languages do you speak, Justin?
Nice shirt Justin😀👍 👚
Thank you very much my friend!👍👌
👍👍👍
Jurmala on a sunny day is fantastic. You forget about everything else when you' re there with no time limit. I like to ride on my bicycle there, it is just 40 min away. If you are in Riga for couple of days and it is a pleasant weather, absolutely recommend to visit this town. Also I would recommend Saulkrasti, in spanish Costa del Sol. That is to north from Riga also by train. A bit different vibe, the beach sand makes a noise when you make steps on it.
Dudes got some great language skills. 😂 we’ll done .
Thank you so much!! 👍😃
18:18 This is Lielupe river. Mārupe river also exists but it is merely a small tributary of Daugava in Rīga, not in Jūrmala. Great video.
Thank you so much for your input, i really appreciate it!! 🙂👍
17:38 you just sat in the seat that was meant for the conductor ! ^^,
You speak brilliant English, almost BBC or Queen's English, very friendly to foreign viewers. I assume you are well-educated. Nice to watch. Greets from Poland.

💕💕💕❤️I liked your maimi Beach style shirt it's 😎 cool❤️💕💕💕 @35:45 justin what the meaning of Diwalli back there?
Thank you mate... I like the shirt too.
I assumed it was named after the Indian festival!!! But I am not sure if it means anything in Latvian
Seems very much like a Polish beach resort. Honestly didn’t expect to see this in Latvia… shows my naivety.
Thanks for taking the time to make this, really interesting.
Thank you Mark... Gonna travel to Gdansk near the end of the month... Shall we grab a couple of beers?
@@J.E.E yes mate sounds good to me 👍
@@J.E.E give me a shout on instagram when you know the details
Beach is great, water is fine. Problem is whether or not it's actually sunny.
😆😆😆
Agreed… thanks for watching my friend! 👍👌
Walking and sampling food. Did you buy anything!
Justin if you are still in Latvia? Come to city Liepaja - the largeat beaches and the best white sand beach with coatal area biggest in the whole Latvia and Baltics
And Liepajas has a status of resort city and it be the Capital of Culture in 2027 so all tourists will come here.

@@J.E.E decent weather in Riga in September?
@@MobMentality1987 hit or miss but not boring👍
Stockmann is not far from that RIMI at the central station and it has a better range and quality of products. It's more expensive though.
True!!! I had forgotten about that 👍
hello justin
ill move to riga friday 16/9
see you there
Welcome mate.
Look forward to it

Out of 500km long beaches in Latvia, locals definitely would not pick Jūrmala as the place to go. :) it's ok, but there are even better.
Thank you so much for sharing, i really appreciate it! 👍🙂
What should I do whenever I see you filming in Riga? Should I go to you and say hi, @Justin?
Yes mate... I would love it👍👍👍
18:20 Lielupe river
Hi my friend, thank you very much for your input! 👍😃
There used to be lot of life there (like festivals with bands on the beach etc.) some 15-20 years ago, but unfortunately now when the whole country has basically collapsed due to the mass emigration (Latvia's population has dropped dramatic 30% during that time) of young people and worst economy in Europe, it's just scraps that are left anymore.
They should drop all the prices AT LEAST 50% there to get the people back, no one is going to pay 11 eur for a G&T as was the case in this beach bar shown here on this video. Especially when it wasn't even special G&T by any means. I would pay max. 4 eur for that.
I agree completely, prices have gotten out of hand here!!! And it used to be a lot more lively👍👌
Lielupe river
I don't recognize any of this places, I born in Latvia Riga. I don't even know where he is. I left in 1971, and everything is different. I know the first stop in yurmala was Lielupe. My all generation was from Daugavpils and Riga, com from Sigulda. And when I was child I was in yaundubulti. So I always said if you like go to Europe, you couldn't find such small beautiful country like Latvia.
Where is a good place in Riga to meet with a Latvian woman?
estern its 7 cm wider
Hiya Justin,we're going to Riga (the girlfriend and myself)and would love to hook up for a drink or two .

We don't have Instagram (or any other social media for that matter)but if Friday say 8 bells sounds ok let us know ,we're getting the bus from Tallinn to Riga on Friday and should there about 4-5ish so anytime after that is good with us👍
@@MrPatch72 8pm at Leningrad!
Looking forward to it 👍
@@J.E.E 👍
Nice video, but there was no need to give the Lithuanian girl advice on how to learn a foreign language, lol.
Thanks for you input
bunch of stray cats there!
wow how many languages do you speak? 😅
Stay tuned to find out,👍👌🙏
You speak not too bad latvian for a foreign. It's really impressive. But I'm having a hard time on every place name you say... And these in Jūrmala they are just unrecognisable if I wouldn't know what's there.. When you step out of the train and have a river the other side of the tracks then it is Lielupe (which basically means the big river). Behind it there are endless meadows. They are somewhat damp very often so there is not getting anything elso on. And the station you stepped off is Majori. Sorry but your pronunciation couldn't be further from it.. if you struggle to think of j sound -replace it with english y and you will sound so good. And the most mistake with all the place names is the stress in the word. There is next to never a word that has its accent/stress elsewhere than on the first syllable. Stress the first syllable and you will sound authentic. And you've got out in Mayori. Try it.
I do not like Jurmala beach it is so small and tiny and sand is so bad wuality so dark and yellow. Best beach in europe is in Latvia city Liepaja - white sand and biggest coastal line with many Beach clubs and restaurants.
You have a sketchy vibe.
Thank you very much for your input! 👍
Wanna make latvian girlfriend 😆
Would be great👍👌
I searched your videos and noticed that you have so much more to cover on the beaches of Liepāja and Ventspils where the beaches are much larger and the surf is wavier. Liepāja is Latvia's third largest city with all kinds of historic and modern architecture so you will have so much to explore there! They have the powdery soft sands with a lot more of those cantina huts! Both cities have up-and-coming microbreweries and cuisine. Before and when the Autumn foliage starts I hope you get to tour the castle ruins of Cesis, Turaida (in Sigulda) and Sigulda castle and Krimulda church, Bauska large castle ruins, Ludza has very large ruins, Koknese has impressive tall ruins, Lielvarde has a small ruin with unique totem poles nearby and a very photo opportunity of how large the Daugava River is with deep blue skies.
