I perfectly understand...same with a woman, a man should never put his wife in a position where she has to choose between him and her mum.
There is no wife that ends to divorce over one issue. There has been some underlying issues of neglect. Some men will mistreat their wives and be kind and generous to his family and children. I agree wisdom is necessary for both parties in the institution of marriage.
Yes! Balance was definitely lacking here.
Seems like there are more underlying issues of neglect and always feeling like second fiddle. I don't think there is any competition between a wife and mother yet some people fail to give attention and affirmation to secure each party in their rightful places because ideally they play very polar roles in the life of the son/husband.
I like this. So balance and knowing how to give the appropriate attention to each side is key.

Priority is situational ,For me Mum and Dad forms part of the family and this statement seems to isolate them.

Don't marry some ones DAUGHTER who has left mother and father to join you then treat her as a second priority after your mother. it is a great injustice. Again putting your family as a priority doesn't mean you abandon parents. It means their basic needs and comfort comes first. When the two of you agree to cater for your parents, cater for her parents too. They are as important as your mother and father

Both the wife/mom are important. However, men should know that their mother can never be their wife and their wife can never be their mother so with that in mind he'll be able to balance the two...

The wife must have had enough of previous incidences untill she was fed up when he decided to buy the mum a car. I feel like that alone can't cause her to want a divorce there's definitely so much more that has happened before.

I come from a different culture. Therefore, we might differ a bit. However, as Muslims honoring our parents is a huge thing pia. I wouldn't want to get in between my husband's relationship with his mother.
He doesn't only have an obligation towards me. He has responsibilities over his parents also.. One shouldn't come above the other. It's upon the husband to draw the boundaries and achieve the balance required.
Basically, whatever I require, I'll discuss with him without bringing his mother into the picture unless it's really necessary.
But, tunajua kuna mother in laws probematic or wives at times, we can also be a bit envious creating a rift between a mother and a son. The husband can also be negligent and lean towards one of the relationship over the other.Causing the discord. Weuh hapa ina require wisdom ya everyone involved.
Remind your husband to honour his parents when he neglects them. The parents should also encourage the man to be good towards his family and call out any form of negligence noted. And the husband should lead with Wisdom and discernment. We all help each other towards righteousness and goodness.
Definitely not a straightforward issue and it differs from one marriage to another.

I love this conversation. My take is similar to Soila's in that, there seems to be much more in play, and this purchase is the straw that broke the camel's back. The Word of God instructs that what God has put together, let no man put asunder(Matthew 19:6). I believe that this instruction is to be taken by the two people within that marriage(the man and woman) because it is only either of them who has that power to ALLOW division between them. In our example here, the man who has bought a car for his mother has put himself in a position to make his wife seem like she's making him choose between herself and his mother, which is unfair. Her resort to divorce, though, seems to stem from a couple of things that have piled up over time, making her see there is no hope for restoration.

Unfortunately i agree with the wife because during pregnancy is when you are most vulnerable and that is when you need a lot more money cause of the unforseen expenses if he can choose to put his mum first at your most vulnerable time then it can only get worse. Finances is a very sensitive thing and also top of the reasons for divorce

Long story short, buy vits yako na pesa yako na kama huwezi afford, don't put pressure on people to buy for you. Your husband is not your mother or father and even your own parents many times choose themselves and let you suffer. so please let the woman go if she wanna go.

Yes. There is definitely a communication issue between the two.
That guy could have easily gotten 2 cars. One for the mother and thw wife. Can't imagine trying to navigate the streets while pregnant. I also think that the mother should be able to advise his son cos he's clearly not wise.

It was a wrong timing. I believe a lady being pregnant, one of the closest friends and shoulder to lean on is your husband.
Purchasing a car for your mum ( less vulnerable compared to your pregnant wife) YET you who need it most don't have 🤔🤔🤔. He would have bought it a year after the wife giving birth 😂
I hope this man wasn't looking for attention from both women.
