Making a Trammel of Archimedes

I became fascinated by this tool designed by Archimedes to draw 1:2 ellipses (also known as a do-nothing or fidget toy). So I decided to make one from clear acrylic!

What you're describing sounds a little like a classic rotary engine like you would see on vintage biplanes. And thanks, I really enjoyed this project myself!

Does the cast acrylic only come in sheets, is there extruded sheet?

You can get cast acrylic in sheets, rods and other forms. There is extruded, but it's garbage to work with. The moment it gets hot it turns gummy. For machining cast is more expensive but the only practical way to go.
