- In this video I make a Trammel of Archimedes. This is a simple mechanism that uses two captive shuttles connected to a rod, which rotates in an oval or ellipse pattern. It can be used to draw perfect and repeatable ellipses, and some functional ones were adjustable.
Made your own? Please share it with me on twitter or instagram by mentioning my me in your post - I'd love to see it.

Whoa. I see other people have built these but this is the first one I've seen. Nice work!
Jeremy Specce Thanks! Easy little fun project to make. Haven't gone back and watched this video in a while. I might have to revisit this and make a nicer one at some point.
That's pretty slick. The pre fidget spinner/ fidget.
Great video! I'm gonna make one for my school project.
Very cool project! Those things are a lot of fun. Came over on Paul Jackman's recommendation, glad I did!

Thanks! I'm going to try and post weekly, but I'm not sticking to a rigid schedule yet- but there will definitely be more to come. Also thanks Paul!
I love it
OwO I love this so much!! Definitely my new fixation. 👀
What was it originally used for? Shalom
twig Hahn It was used for accurately drawing ellipse shapes. If you put a writing utensil at the end of the arm, it would draw a perfect ellipse.
If you think the saw is going to kick back, don't stand behind the workpiece!!!
