    How to Make a Saw Till for Hand Saw Storage. I have wanted to make hand saw storage for a long time. and this time I decided to do a full design for the saw till. I wanted it to hang on the french cleats I wanted it to hold all of my hand saws, panel saws, back saws, dovetail saws, coping saws. well, you get the idea. it needs to hold all of my hand tools that deal with saws. This is a simple hand tool woodworking project that anyone can build with a few minimal hand tools and can be easily built in a weekend.

    Just finished my saw till. As always, wonderful plan that was easy to adapt to my needs. I used a reclaimed ancient oak beam from a timber-framed house that was too beat up for the original purpose I got it for. But it had just enough salvageable wood left in it for this till. Came out absolutely gorgeous and really popped once the Danish oil and wax was applied.

    Just for grins and giggles, I think it would have been cool to do half-lap dovetails on the ends of the blade holders. It would force you to glue them at the same time you glue the bottom, but I don't think it's that complicated. The advantage is the coolness of the dovetails showing on the sides of the till.

      power tools do have their place, but hand tools are so much more peaceful to use and you feel more one with the wood. Each craftsman must follow what works for them, I suppose. I was kind of hoping to see you turn the dowel on your homemade lathe, I love home-built hand made tools.

    nice project. i definatly have a saw clutter i should make one of these soon.
    since the cross pieces that the saws go into are cut nearly all the way through, perhaps a groove cut in the backing board for that board to be glued into would be more relaiable than just the edge glued?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  Před 7 lety +1

    Computer? It's a slippery slope, you'll be building a CNC router soon.

      The old-timers used panto-graph to make duplicates. My grandfather had one when I was a kid, and it was really old then. It had some scratch awls with it. By the time I saw him use it he just fitted a pencil. Not exactly a CNC, but I bet you could make one out of white oak and put a BLO finish on it, and incorporate a hanger for your french cleat wall.

      That is what youtube does to videos over 10 minutes now. Not all of them but it depends on the viewer. Not my choice.

      The problem is I can't change all of them. I have to change each and every video individually. And I have almost 2,000 videos up now. Each video takes around 30 seconds or so to do. So we're talking several days of non-stop work just to turn these off.
