  • What's Happening Everyone! In this video I continue the hand tool cabinet build by adding a hand plane and hand saw till, the unit can be made independently of the main cabinet, so it can be a stand alone unit.

I’m rewatching a fair bit of your videos, love the content. I’m sure by now you’ve got Spokeshaves galore, but I’m surprised you’re not using a card scraper to smooth off that edge on the sapele. The Shinto is terrific tool, but when I use it I get a relatively rough surface, even with the fine teeth. The card scraper takes a bit to get accustomed to but leaves a beautiful surface behind. Wonderful work, John. Cheers

Well lad! :) Im enjoying this series man, and its great to see ya crackin out the hand tools. Do feel like youre after readin my mind somehow tho.......some of the inside parts of your cabinet are very close to what ive been drawing/planning out for the last couple months haha :P Sapele is a lovely wood, good and strong, looks great and smells good when youre workin it too :) I used to get most of my hardwoods, and all of my exotics from England, that might prove difficult/expensive now with the recent changes.....where did you get your hardwood for this lad, Strahan?? I needs to find a new source of lumber, and veneers..... the veneers might be hard to find in little ol Ireland :P
Id suggest some Veritas wonder dogs for your MFT, ya could use them to pinch the wood from the sides leaving the top face unobstructed for workin on. The face of the wonder dogs are about 15mm high, so take that into account if ya often work with thinner materials :)
