    My husband and I spent 2 weeks in Tuscany and rented an apartment in Lucca as our base. We toured Florence, Pisa, Siena, Volterra and many places in between. We fell so in love that we are planning for our retirement in Italy.

      That is something you should research carefully. There are plenty of videos on CZcams that I advise you pay attention to. One of the things you should think about it is what are you going to do in a foreign country. One of the common things that I read on the Internet is it's wonderful to sit in a bar or a restaurant and nurse a drink like wine or coffee and watch the people go by I could do that for about a half an hour. Then I would go crazy. And remember you have to learn the language. You will see a lot of people say that it's possible to get by without learning the language just speaking English, but you really do not want to do that.

      @@DebraMcVey we will be retiring so sitting with a coffee and watching the world go by is perfect for us. We found that a lot of Italians speak English as it is the universal language of business and trade. The real bonus is being able to travel all over Europe and visit friends and family. Thank you for your advice though. Very thoughtful. 🙂

    This brought back memories. Sicily is a must, but in Spring when it's green. The north: Bolzano, with its incredible preserved Neolithic mummy. The northwest: Torino, with its arcades, palaces, and the Turin shroud; Aosta, with its Roman ruins. So many more. Avoid visiting in high season, Spring and Winter are best. Happy travelling.

    I was blessed with the opportunity to live and work in Italia in my 30's and 40's , a phase when most of us have the youth and appetite to push hard. Experiencing all that I could left me a lifetime fan but, sadly you eventually realize that Italy is far more than any single lifetime...what a glory.

    Di certo l'Italia può stupire x la sua diversità , ogni città è una scoperta . Vedere Roma e la sua storia millenaria ti rende consapevole che prima di noi ci sono stati uomini di genio. Firenze bella da piangere chiede uniche al mondo e più bella dentro ai suoi palazzi che fuori . Venezia un gioiello costruito da uomini di genio unendo le isole e farne una città simbolo ne cito tre perché rappresentano la storia italiana ma le altre città sono altrettanto belle e uniche non si somigliano mai. Certamente molti stranieri potrebbero non capire perché vivono città accoglienti molto belle nei miei viaggi ho ammirato tutto il bello ma c'è una differenza l'Italia è un museo a cielo aperto e quando rientrerò nella mia terra potevo capire dove stava la differenza era arte che respiri in questo paese arte fatta da uomini eccezionali pieni di voglia di lavorare e questo paese merita tutto il rispetto prima dagli italiani e poi dalle persone che vengono da fuori. Sembra facile questore questi tesori ma no è così. Speriamo che tutto il mondo partecipi a salvare questo paese delle meraviglie l'Italia i di tutti voi amate la con tutti i suoi difetti.

    Love the drone footage. I will be spending 3 months in Italy later in year and owning a Mavic 3, and already my thinking is, will be difficult to fly with regulations, weight and noise.
    What drone did you use for the footage, if I may ask? 🙏

    • @droptack
      @droptack  Před rokem +2

      Hey Chris, I’m excited for you! We actually sourced the footage for this particular video from other artists so I can’t answer the specific drone question, though I’m partial to DJI.
      As far as I understand, Italy’s regulations are pretty standard and I don’t think they’re as strict as some other countries, though I would certainly read up on them if you haven’t already. The Mavic 3 is an A1 category so it should be easier to use as far as regulations are concerned.
      Where are you planning to go? Three months is a great amount of time in Italy.

    1:03 Rising sea levels? Do some research - that’s got nothing to do with it. Venice is sinking because of how Venice was built. Venice was built on tree trunk stilts. These are slowly sinking.

    • @droptack
      @droptack  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for sharing. We agree that research is wonderful. In this case, we did some, and it's a combination of both issues. There's a controversy over whether or not it's still sinking, but of course there's controversy over climate change as well. While we do try to research adequately we will inevitably make mistakes and we appreciate you helping us get to the truth.

    Do you have a recommendation for when a good time of day would be to visit the Trevi Fountain in order to avoid the crowds? Or is it just better to go during shoulder or off season?

    • @droptack
      @droptack  Před rokem +5

      We always love traveling during shoulder season to avoid the crowds (spring and late fall for Rome). For the Trevi fountain specifically, the earlier the better. Morning is ideal, but also late evening visits (7PM and after) are nice for a different perspective.

      7 am or earlier. . Walk there in a leisurely way on nearly empty streets admiring the architecture rather than dodging the shoppers later in the day. The council workers might still be cleaning the fountain catchment, there are probably 6 other tourists and the nearby cafe might be open for coffee and cornetto . The miracle is that it is silent !!! A short walk ( 5 min) takes you to the nearby Pantheon, which opens at 8:30 and is free. Wait till then sitting at a nearby cafe for an authentic Italian breakfast and uninterrupted view across the piazza. Or would you rather sleep in have breakfast at your hotel, catch a bus and arrive at midday when there are thousands of tourists shoulder to shoulder and the sound of their shouting can be heard streets away. Your choice 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Italy is one of my favorite places. My favorite place in Italy is Firenze (Florence). I think the architecture, the museums, the art both in & out of the museums, the Ponte Vecchio. I'm not sure that spending a year in Florence would be enough. If I could not see anything else in Italy I would choose Florence. You cannot really understand the Renaissance without spending time in Florence. The Vatican would not be the Vatican without all of the contributions, financial, architectural & artistic from Florence. Without Florence Italy's historical contributions to the world might have ended with the Roman Empire.

      @droptack  Před rokem +1

      Hi Yash, we’re glad you’re enjoying them. That’s a tough question… you really can’t go wrong with either choice. I prefer Florence to Milan, but Lake Como is an incredible place. Logistically, the train systems make it easy to access either of them so Milan is only about an hour further from Rome.
      If you enjoy lakes, mountains, or more modern cities go to Milan/Como. If you lean towards history, rolling hills, art, and architecture I’d recommend Florence/Tuscany.
      Sounds like a great trip! You’re going to see a lot.

    • @droptack
      @droptack  Před rokem +1

      I think Lake Como is different enough that it would be worthwhile. The lake is situated in the mountains and has a different feel than the coasts and canals. It really depend on the type of traveler you are. Lake Como can feel a bit touristy, whereas Tuscany offers more insight into Italian culture. Personally, I would add Florence/Tuscany if it were my itinerary, but like I said, it differs for each traveler.
