    1977
    That year Linda earned $35M.
It was her 'screw you' money. From then on she didn't have to worry about what the music industry wanted her to do. She did what she wanted to do.
She entertained us by doing what she wanted to do.
    I Love her.

The lovely Linda no one can touch her, she was one of the top female artists of the 70's and 80's, she did this live, no auto, tune artists don't perform like this anymore. She was a pure musical genius who explored multiple musical genres and was a smashing success in all of them!

Linda Ronstadt had the most beautiful voice on the planet until it was silenced by a neurological disorder. But she has a forty year catalogue that spans multiple genres and she has the perfect blend of sweetness and power that produces the voice of an angel. She has won every award and honor imaginable and richly deserved each and every accolade. I cannot say enough in praise of this stunningly talented woman. Well worth a deep dive. 🌺✌️

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Blue Bayou", "Long Long Time", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Linda also collaborated with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris on a few "Trio" albums.

The Eagles were her touring band before they made it big on their own, and that's who wrote this song in 1973 -- it was their hit before Linda covered it. They always gave Linda her credit for being a big part of their career launch, and she's sung this song with them on stage as well. "Long Long Time" and "Love Has No Pride" were two more of her early-years hit ballads (w/ her Stone Poneys band) if you like her vocals like Desperado. Just as powerful as this too. Thanks Samantha!

First saw Ronstadt when she was just 15 years old. She was a phenom! She could sing anything, from Pop, Spanish, Rock and Roll, Country, Opera...with her 6 + octave range. She is Hispanic, her parents coming from Mexico. One of her best albums was "Songs of my Father" which was mariachi music. Her portrayal of Mabel in Pirates of Pensance (a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta ) was amazing. Unfortunately, Parkinson's disease stole her voice but didn't steal her attitude. I'm old but it amazes me that people are just now starting to "discover" perhaps one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Nice reaction.

No gimmicks or auto tune. Linda truly stood out as a recognizable voice in only a couple of notes. This song was always special to me. It summed up my high school sweetheart and me. Off and on through the years we would talk...but he was still the same. Now, we are both retired...we talked last year...he told me he had finally came to his senses about a lot of things. "You, you really loved me...I knew you did..but when another would come along..off I went. You were there waiting for me. You mended my wounds...and off again I would go. I did you so wrong." He wanted to see me. Well, at our age...we don't look as we did 33 years ago. I"m not ashamed of myself or anything...but when he said "My pretty girl still sounds the same as I remember"...I knew he was back in yesteryear. So what happened ? He was on the phone with me...and a woman said "You gonna be on the phone all night ?" I just said..."Goodbye Bill." and hung up. Same "ole BS...he never changed...just got better at his lies.

A lot of music that came out in the 70's and 80's was good. The vocals weren't autotuned and the studio musicians knew how to play their instruments to make sounds that carried you to distant worlds... There is a lot of music to recommend - but I'll just leave one... Sarah Brightman - Nella Fantasia... She's your gateway into opera... Or... Lindsey Stirling - Crystalize as an intro into instrumental modern violin...

My generation had the best music ever. The 1960's and 70's were prolific with a very wide range considered 'rock and roll'. Desperado was written by the Eagles but Linda made it even better by slowing it down to a ballad. The Eagles went back in the studio and re-recorded it as a ballad. Linda was one of the best selling women vocalists in the 60's and beyond, up until her diagnosis of Parkinsons and quit singing.

I probably heard this when it was new but I really like the Eagles version. As someone mentioned, the Eagles were formed from at least some of Ronstadt’s back up musicians.

The reason real talent is often overlooked is that the music industry is not about music; it is about money. And that makes all the difference.

    No Autotune needed...

Linda is certainly worthy of that quote… as she was a cutie… but Willie actually said that about Emmylou Harris.

    HI Samantha…
If you’d like a suggestion of someone “new” to react to, how about:
    FREDDIE MERCURY (Queen)
Freddie’s been voted Best Vocalist in Rock Music (he had a four octave vocal range.)
He also sang OPERA…. with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé. (Freddie was actually the FIRST professional musician/singer to cross music genres and collaborate/record an album with someone from another music genre.)
    SUGGESTION:
    “Somebody To Love” LIVE at:
    Milton Keynes Bowl in 1982
    AND/OR…
    With Montserrat Caballé:
    “THE GOLDEN BOY”
    LIVE at LA NIT

problem is they are not on America's Got Talent and producers (whatever) want a specific type of voice to sell music, even if for a short period of time. I tell you one, listen to Stan Walker sing I Am. He is exactly what you are talking about. Or Hallelujah.

Interestingly, the guys who went on to form the Eagles played together backing Linda Ronstadt. She encouraged them to go out on their own.

On why you haven't heard of Linda before -- one of the myriad genres at which she excelled, in the early-mid '80s (just before her "canciones" period) she made 3 albums of "American songbook" songs from the '30s and '40s, which I didn't know. (I was born in 1942, about 20 years too late.) She sold 7 million of these albums, and introduced this music to a whole generation of Americans, including me. Now she's faded, before your time. This isn't new. We generally aren't exposed to the music before our own time. As you say, this is very unfortunate. For these particular albums, check out "Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle" on CZcams.
