    I would recommend for the University or Ministry of Agriculture, to present this video to the richest 100 individuals in Somaliland and show them what’s really possible in their country. Frankly, most of these rich men don’t know that something like this is possible in their own backyards. With the help of Edna, I am sure she can convince these rich men to invest in agriculture - when Edna talks Somaliland listens!!

    • @achmedwilders-baudet7006
      @achmedwilders-baudet7006 Před 3 lety +2

      It takes to much time/effort looking at human resources and general management costs. It's simply more profitable to buy land and wait untill it's worth more whilst working in less timeconsuming fields in the meantime. One does not simply run a business in Somaliland since the people are not educated in the work/lack general work ethic in comparison to other countries and the govornment isn't encouraging (yet, hopefully they will be in the future, insha'allah) businesses. Edna Aden is in a extremely privileged position connectionwise and moneywise because of her history of working for the Somaliland govornment. No corrupt govornement official will come to her farm to collect money and nobody dares to steal her goods. Believe me, the people that have large businesses/wallets in Somaliland know about this but as long as the govornment stays corrupt and/or the people stay uneducated nobody is going to put this much effort in generating money. There are simply easier and safer ways to do it.

    Impressive farm mashallah, definitely poultry farming is something that should be more common. The plantation is great but I’m not sure about this technique of keeping the sheep in one tight area. He calls it ‘high intensive non selective grazing’ but others could call it overgrazing in one small area. You see similar farms in the Sanaag near erigabo that fallow land and they sometimes store it after cutting it or sell it as hay. The main risk from fallowing large areas of land for dry grass is from fire 🔥. Also if the grass production is dependent on rainfall it’s not guaranteed to fall on the same plot each year as we don’t have the same rainfall patterns in Somaliland like they do in Uganda for example . You could have rain on your land but your neighbour may have a lot less rain or none at all. There is a reason why Somali nomadic herdsmen export millions of livestock each year despite such harsh and unpredictable conditions, including to places that are better in terms growing cereals, fruit and veg, Egypt for example. Yes there needs be a backup for the major droughts but I’m not sure closing off the shared communal nomadic grazing lands to rich private landowners so he could fallow the grass all for himself would help the average Somali out of poverty.

    • @AminAware
      @AminAware Před 3 lety

      I note your comments, but just want to add that majority of communal grazing areas are already fences off by people claiming it due to lack of land policy and control all over Somaliland. And they are not even farming anything. So maybe this is not the final solution but its definately beats just relying on nomadic pastoralism

    • @_GlobalNomad
      @_GlobalNomad Před 3 lety +1

      @@AminAware yes that’s true more and more communal land is being fenced off for farming. The production of crops and plantations can go up in those areas but the livestock head count in the areas go down from my observation. Even after a major drought sheep numbers overall recover in the communal grazing lands. So in terms of a numbers game most of the sheep for export that arrive in Berbera are from east of Burao and originate from shared communal reer miyi grazing areas, not all but the vast majority. I agree that’s great to diversify though I’m looking to get into poultry myself.
