Nat'an Abshire used to run the town dump in Gueydan, Louisiana when I was a little boy. He used to scare the h*ll out of us when we went there. He also taught my friend, Pat Savant, some accordion in the mid-1970s.
    Thanks for the memories!

What's wrong with running the town dump? Somebody has to.

    • @tobytylersf

Since you obviously weren't in Gueydan in the early 1960s, you really don't know what you're talking about. Cajun musician wasn't a term of respect in those days, for one thing. Cajun music then was played in bars by and for drunks who weren't considered the town's best citizens. Secondly, if you think Gueydan Louisiana in the 1960s was a teeming metropolis full of government jobs for the asking, you REALLY have never been there.

Ignore the long multi coloured beep at the start of the video is worth a watch and will show a lot about Nathan and his work at the dump amongst a lot of other stuff....

anne huval Well Anne, I have been "down there"...Beaux Bridge and Lafayette both this past year. Some GREAT real Cajun bands and Great Cajun music. But some of the bands about Zydecoed me to death. Closer to Rock and Hip Hop than real Cajun music; a lot of folks in thee festival crowds had the same opinion. By the way, the Huval Family Band is very very good. Thoroughly enjoyed them.

I feel your frustration. Same in many traditional genres ( Scottish /Irish). Some cant leave it alone, In the search for something new they often leave the gems behind. Thankfully we have these old recordings .
