Our family was transferred to Lafayette in the 1970' and 1980's. It is the happiest place we ever lived. People in my office all spoke Cajun French. All are great people in every way. I hope their culture never dies.

I went to college in New Orleans in 1971. I was in a bar in Hammond watching a table of Cajuns gambling and speaking Cajun. So cool.

Most fun my wife and I ever had was one Saturday night with a Cajun neighbor going out for a Cajun party. The place was a dance hall up on stilts. The place was deadly silent until my neighbor started speaking the language. Different place immediately The music, food and drink went until 3 AM.
Next morning in no shape for church.

Thirty years ago I could still hear french spoken in the restaurants and gas stations of south louisiana -- now, almost never. Yes, sadly, it's dying...

@@oranstelly5393 I hear and feel your pain from Idaho. Close to Boise. Part of the Louisina purchase. My ancestry comes from Allsaice Lorraine which is between France and Germany. We have alot of Basque settlement here in Idaho which the Basque people came from between France and Spain. The music beckons to my blood. Stay encouraged. It's not dead.

Was there this past Saturday 7 /8/23. Visiting from Montgomery Texas. Donny Broussard and the Louisiana Stars were so good and awesome as usual. Everyone's so friendly and just having a good time. If you've never been, you need to put this trip on your to-do list!

My best memories were going to the ditches around my grandparent’s house and taking a string, a stick, and a bit of bacon to catch crawdaddies.

When to I believe it was called Lakeview campground about 40 + yrs ago. Cajun band in dancehall on Saturday night (a great time) and come Sunday morning the bar and liquor bottles all cover with sheets and priest held mass. Enjoyable weekend by all. The “ leftovers” or “ bobos in the head” hurt!
