Shogun 2 was great, and what made it so has taken me months to condense into a not so neatly packed 48 minutes. If that sounds mildly interesting join me as we take a walk down the gaming memory lane, and revisit what is easily one of the best entries in the Total War franchise.
Do you have what it takes to become the Shogun (ᵐᶦˡᶦᵗᵃʳʸ ʳᵘˡᵉʳ ᵒᶠ ᵃˡˡ ʲᵃᵖᵃⁿ)?

Could this video have been 10 to 15 min shorter? Maybe
Did I notice way too late into editing it? Probably
Will I get better at this? You bet
man great editing already. gj
Based and long yari pilled video.
i like your videos style , keep going 💯
This video is so good man keep up videos like this and you’ll grow massively
The vids start comin' and they dont stop comin'
@@Potpotron while I have you please make a really long video covering all of total warhammer III immortal empires in incredible detail
Unfortunately WHIII runs very poorly on my pc, almost unplayable and definetly not very enjoyable. Maybe by the time they are done with the DLCs I will have a new GPU, but it is impossible at the moment I really can't afford one. I would love to make a video like the one you say tho
“gaming memory lane” is a very nice idea for a series. saw you post this on reddit, great video homie! subbed and hopeful for some more long form videos from you 🤙
Pretty good retrospective, your use of memes and funny captions got a good number of laughs from me. That said I think it's kinda funny how you and many others say this is this best (or one of the best) Total Wars but also underscore its many flaws, particularly the diplomacy. As a Total War game it's definitely one of the strongest in the series, probably because it is more focused and polishes many of aspects of past TW games, including the combat and unit control (recently going back to Medieval 2 I was struck by how bad the controls were compared to the newer games).
However as a strategy game Shogun 2 really falls on its face and that's what keeps it from being the best TW. Diplomacy, trade and alliances are all central to a good strategy game but they seem to be an afterthought in Shogun 2, which is made painfully obvious by Realm Divide. That moment in the game undoes all your hard work and shrewd diplomatic maneuvers. It's a major flaw imho.
This, along with some of the spotty areas of the general upgrade tree (the right side being completely useless), just makes Shogun 2 a good TW for battles but, as you said, you spend 60-70 percent of the time on the strategy map and these aforementioned flaws dulls what is otherwise a beautifully made game.
I do mention the things that actually bother me. To me diplomacy in these games is untapped potential but at the same time I don't have anything else to compare it too, I wouldn't say any other Total War has the answer to the issue (Probably Three Kingdoms but I STILL haven't played it yet)
This video had a lot of cuts and rewrites, I was more in depth in every aspect originally but I didn't want the video to be very long, so I ended up focusing a bit more on the positive aspects as I tend to do in these retrospectives.
@@Potpotron I understand and I think you're very fair in your assessment, don't get me wrong. I think Shogun 2 is a great game and a great TW game, because I enjoy the battles it can serve up. I just think it's held back by the way realm divide makes diplomacy useless in the long term.
For myself I really enjoy the diplomacy of Rome II because it offers a lot of variety in how you want to play. I finished up an Epirus campaign not long ago where I made bank from trade agreements, made judicious alliances and expanded enough to win but my alliances won the game. It was a way of playing 'tall' without having to paint the map my faction's color.
I've only played a little of Three Kingdoms but playing Cao Cao was a lot of fun strategically. Using him to instigate wars between different factions was great. I've been meaning to get back to playing more of it for ages. I highly recommend it even if you're iffy on the Warring States period in Chinese history.
Have to say the graphics look really great for its time and still hold up. Never got round to playing total war games, have this feeling I'll get sucked into them to much. Will have keep my eye out for this one though, as it does look a lot of fun. Great video as always!
One last thing; did you use the Dawn of War Tau music near the end of the video? Sounded very similar.
hahah yea, at some point I always run out of music from the game Im covering if the vid is too long.
Thanks man, definetly check this game out
Your content is so great are ya gonna do a rise of nations retrospective 👀
You bet! Not the next one but it's definetly coming, one of my fav RTS games
Seems like the few issues listen could be sorted out with a few mods tbh
