  • Vocal Coach Reaction To Lou Gramm - Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is - Live - Ken Tamplin
Lou Gramm is one of my FAVORITE singers of all time so I'm very excited to be doing a reaction today to Foreigner.
They are one of the world's best-selling bands of all time with worldwide sales of more than 80 million records, including 37.5 million records in the US.
The name of the band came from the fact that half the members were from England and half from the US so they all could call themselves foreigners.
Band members Mick Jones and Gramm wrote most of their songs together. They had a very fruitful songwriting partnership, with each bringing a range of musical influences to their compositions.
In 2013, they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, where they performed together for the first time since 2003.
Foreigner has dissolved and re-formed several times over the years. Mick Jones is the only original member of the band who has remained with the group since the beginning.
I'll be reacting to "I Want To Know What Love Is" along with "Hot Blooded". "I Want To Know What Love Is" was the band's most successful tune. It hit number one in both the United Kingdom and the United States. It is listed as one of Rolling Stone Magazine's greatest songs of all time at number 479.
Get ready for an epic performance with no tracks, no auto-tune, just a RAW display by one of the all-time GREATS!

This song is so perfect, it makes me cry everytime, I saw Lou Gramm in Caracas 2009 after his brain surgery and some ladies in the audience said before Lou Gramm went on stage they said what happen with Lou why he is not signing yet! what Happen, will he come in a wheelchair? And I will never forget that moment when Lou Gramm came out and sang perfectly leaving everyone impressed closing the mouth of those who did not believe in him.

It was really sad and unfortunate what happened to him with his health but he’s still singing today. He’s a really humble guy too. Thanks for doing this video!

Hi Ken. Always appreciate your great lessons so much. I'm a 50-year-old South Korean and and there have been 3 songs that brought tears to my eyes when I was a teenager who still didn't understand English well. 1. Against All Odds 2. Total Eclipse of the Heart 3. I Want to Know What Love Is. Having been a high school English teacher for 22 years, now I know what those songs are about and that gives me even bigger movement.

I agree with you Ken T. Foreigner is one of my favorite bands of all time. Lou Gramm delivered BIGTIME. Especially in the studio because the songs are everlasting. Just incredible deliver. Powerful frontman and voice. Bigtime musicians backing Lou. Tons of classic hits. There is a version of "Starrider" on youtube that is incredible. With Lou. You know which one I am talking about. Late 70's/early 80's where the band just kills it. I would love to hear your take on it. I know you listen to the comments. God Bless man. I would love to add a thing here Ken if you are listening. Keeping it short. Unsung heroes of mine when I picked up my instrument. While in my home state,, Southern Maine/ Portland, Maine,, "Pete, from "Twisted Roots" and while in New Orleans for 7 years (1997 - 2004) ,,James Hall (pleasure Club)... Great bands with great frontmen... The digital age may have put a cork on many great talents out there. Perhaps to a cast where you showcase some artists that not many have heard of before? I love your channel and I am loving going back listening to lots I have missed throughout the times we are living in.

Thanks for your reaction video, Ken! Only Lou Gramm (in the 1990s) is better than Lou Gramm here. I love this live performance so much. A delight to watch and listen to Lou. He clearly puts all his heart and soul into his golden voice. Outstanding vocalist and genuine performer without any ego rock star attitudes. He only needs a mic and a song, ANY song, and the magic begins. I followed his versatile voice whereever I could, finding so much great music and joy: Foreigner, his solo stuff, Shadow King, and recently Black Sheep, his collaborations with other artists, his tribute to John Lennon and Aretha Franklin, his amazing cover versions of Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog", "Heartbreaker", "Stairway to Heaven"...
But it was his backing vocals on Bryan Adams' "Let him know" from the "Cuts like a knife" album that caught my attention in the first place many many years ago. Without knowing or recognizing Lou back then, I always thought, OMG, THAT VOICE, AMAZING. So, thanks to Bryan Adams for introducing me to the best rock vocalist of all times (imho). 😊

The interesting thing I take away from him being out of breath at the beginning, it really adds to the visual on my end as a spectator. Something about that obvious short of breathless just adds to the mood and feeling of the song. Wanting to “know what love is” and he’s giving it 110% although he’s already a bit worn. Just totally feeds to emotion of the song to me. Fantastic video and reaction, Ken!

So fun watching Ken’s exuberance! That’s just how I feel when I’m loving a tune......”where did the music go”? He says at the end.......good question. I think it got trapped inside an app....

Spectacular song!!! When you have it, you just have it! I too, love Lou Gramm. I also loved Kelly Hansen’s version of this song with the accompanying video with the Shriners kids - made me cry!

Some of the parts are brutal for the original, but yet it's so dang great still. Gives such a special feeling to it. This is one of those songs when you are so exhausted and sing this you can choke on it so hard. This is just so real. Wonderful.

It only took me 43 years to learn that the difference between those that became SUCCESSFUL, and those who didn't, was their ability to HOLD ON and PERSIST in the face of less than desireable, often bleak, circumstances and/or environments. Just. Hold. On.

Ken, new subscriber and found your video about Lou Gramm very interesting. It was great to see and hear Lou Gramm sing. As others have wrote and I agree that he and Steve Perry have to be the pinnacle of frontmen. Great tone, range, and soul in those guys. It's a crime Foreigner aren't in the hall. So, tell me how do frontmen like Lou Gramm keep their voices in shape as they age? Some seem to age better than others, so how can a singer keep age from stealing their range? I'm a drummer so age isn't such a deal for me. But I know it is for vocalists.
