- One of India’s well-known essayists as well as an economist and political affairs commentator, whose weekly blogs are widely viewed, has said “Narendra Modi is staggeringly incompetent not just in economics but most things”. Dr. Parakala Prabhakar was speaking in an interview on his forthcoming collection of essays called ‘The Crooked Timber of New India: Essays on a Republic in Crisis’, which will be formally launched in Bangalore on Sunday the 14th. This comment was made when Dr. Parakala was questioned about the following sentence from his book: “The nation’s economic woes stem from the Modi regime’s staggering incompetence. It has been unable to put together a well-thought out, cohesive economic philosophy.” In a series of questions about who he had in mind when he wrote “the Modi regime’s staggering incompetence”, Dr. Parakala said “Narendra Modi is staggeringly incompetent not just in economics but most things”. Asked specifically about the two Finance Ministers who have served under Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley and Nirmala Sitharaman, Dr. Parakala said that he did not want to comment on individuals.

As a political economist his observations and insights are astute and eye opening. I am truly impressed by what was read out from his recent book. My respect for Dr Parakala Prabhakar has gone up many folds today; I used to watch his weekly program on his own CZcams channel every Wednesday when he suddenly decided to go off air; I really missed him until I came across this interview.
I didn't have a great liking for Modi even before 2002 but the Gujarat riots and how he handled them took me light years away from him. He is the gift of LK Advani to us, who must be tossing on his bed but has no courage to speak out, however, it is we Indian citizens who have given him the legitimacy!
I am absolutely with you. Dr Prabhakar Parkala is incisive, collates data systematically and presents it as it is - without any over emphasis!

Recently completed reading his excellent book speaking out the truths on real issues afflicting Indian polity,economy,misgovernance with facts & statistical figures eversince 2014.

As for freedom of expression, the husband of the current FM, Nirmala S is able to publish a book that calls the PM as staggeringly incompetent and being able to publish it and have multiple interviews about the book shows the extent to which their is freedom of speech/expression in this country. Does he realize how much of an embarrassment this would be for his wife, the FM?
I am surprised they have managed to stay as a couple instead of divorcing each other. Can such a thing be even remotely possible in Congress? Mr Prabhakar also should understand he is getting the amount of attention is getting not because of his knowledge or achievements but because his wife is the FM. Most of those who interview him use him as a tool to tarnish his wife's party. Otherwise not many would give a hoot about what he has to say.

When you press the button on the EVM in favour of the wisest candidate how sure are you that vote of yours has gone to your candidate and not someone else. If you are looking for the right answer then dont blame the other voters. There is a software inside the IC , EPROm chips that is keyed in by the EC or their contractors which makes fool out of us. So as long as EVM are used only BJP and so confidently they say Congress mukth Bharath, and will make constitutional changes after LS polls of 2024.

In the name of digitization Modi government has stopped all manual work that was efficient and helped people. Do you know the LONG queues people have to wait in for EVERYTHING in Karnataka? Every time we need to get something done, the people behind the counters tell us that "server is down" or "internet is down". Why isn't BJP government hiring more people to prevent these long queues? Jobs with high paying salaries will result in prosperity for the people. Why isn't BJP government paying the pensions of elderly people? Why are people being forced to pay fees to use ATM cards? Why are people being prevented from using their own money from their own bank accounts? Everything the BJP government has inconvenienced people in more ways than one. Why are people being forced to pay tolls for roads that are supposed to be the state's infrastructure that is funded by tax payers? Why is there so much trash all over the streets? Why can't BJP government hire people with high salaries to do the work that needs to be done? All this supreme court nonsense is a distraction from the extreme corruption that Modi government has created. You just seem to be jealous that Karnataka people got some money. You also seem to be okay with Modi and his cronies looting the government of all its funds in the form of subsidies to private corporations. Instead of solving real issues and preventing new problems, Modi government has started a new bullshit trend of letting courts decide what to do. If SC should decide everything what are the politicians doing? Why are politicians getting payed? Don't they call themselves "leaders". They need to do their jobs.

Congrats Mr Thaparji for a very bold interview Third term for Modiji spells a disaster for our country's democratic values which every Indian so deeply cherishes. But I do see a silver lining in our countrymen, who will definitely rise against such a divisive narrative of the government of the day. I believe in people's intelligence to rise and vote against such a narrative.

As an Indian, I, am surprised that the people of India, have taken this all lying down, so far. It is pretty obvious, that the present government is intent on making away with a secular country, where every one lives in peace and harmony, to a theocratic state, where other than Hindus and other religions do not exist. This, one has to agree, is a poor state of affairs and our founding fathers were unable to foresee!!

It has yielded tangible results that an ordinary but a citizen no less like me can see and test. My town in southwest himachal pradesh for majority of its history had 1 subpar IGNOU for post secondary education. Now we have a hydroengineering univery, an AIIMS and a highway that is transforming the town like never before.
The ethos of this nation is secular, as are majority of the people, BJP can only fan ideas that would actually gain any traction amongst the masses. Their fringe can continue portraying the other sects ( india doesnt have a minority except for jews and parsis) , but those lot would never be able to enact policies that can undermine the right of those communities.
They all criticize Modi on such superficial levels nobody gives a flying fuck .
