    I am very glad that you have shown a way to complete disassembly. Edit: I had found out that you actually needed to take both t10 screws off the side. Because normally that heatsink shroud is supposed to be screwed on the unibody.

    Can you install logic board from 2019 iMac 27 into iMac 27 2017 so that you can upgrade to 9900k?
    Because 2017 iMac 27 will not accept any CPU faster than 7700k , thanks

    Thank you. Can you tell abouth swapping mainboards from this models and similarity. Maybe Retina board can work with normal lcd panel. Maybe late 2013 mainboard can be replaced with 2014 mainboard. or is 2012 mainboard similar and compatible with 2013 mainboard. Thank You.

    My advice to the viewer. Do not follow the instruction on this video. Here is the reason. First off, do not apply heat gun on the screen perimeter. No need. If you get carried away applying heat, the glass expands it, which could be followed by a stress fracture. Secondly, the metal prying tool, definitely NO NO. Why? because it can scratch the inside black paint on the glass. So, how do you do this right? Simple. Buy yourself a $5 rolling disc plastic cutter. This disc is very thin and flexible. Start from the bottom and insert the rolling plastic disc between the glass the metal frame of the iMac. It is easy. The radius of the disc is long enough to cut through all the glue that is between the glass of the screen and the frame. Just roll it slowly. It will cut through the glue. Put playing cards between the glass and the frame to prevent them from being glued again. When you are done cutting through the glue, it is time to pry the screen with your hand to complete the separation. You will have to remove two cables connecting the screen to the logicboard. The video cable, and the screen power connector. disconnect the two and you are ready to lift off the screen.

    A question for you. Did you just replace the old one with the same model, or did you upgrade it with a best possible one? I'm asking because I'm thinking about upgrading my 27" imac late 2013.

    • @AliceDavidEdu
      @AliceDavidEdu Před 5 lety +1

      If I could, do you think I can upgrade my iMac into one with DDR4 compatibility?

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  Před 5 lety +4

      Because the ports are slightly different and the internal layout shapes are also slightly different for many models with the same A number I would suggest just replacing with the same exact board if you need it replaced. If you go to www.everymac.com click imacs and look at the A number for your size and year in the model list, you can see that you could get a board with same architecture but slightly better CPU but once you go to a different tear of architecture such as DDR4 you are looking at a differently shaped board. It's not the case every time but most of the time. You should do in-depth research and visual comparison of board pictures before purchasing anything. This is a very complicated replacement and if you order a wrong board and you have everything gutted out and you see that it will not fit, it will be a disaster that can be avoided in advance by research. Good luck.

      No, because the video card is built into the logic board.

  • @dcampagna1772
    @dcampagna1772 Před rokem

    VERY IMPORTANT STEP OMITTED FROM THE VIDEO: Before you re-attach the LCD, boot up the Mac to make sure it is operational. There are 4 LED lights on the logic board. Three will light if the installation was successful (the 4th doesn't light since the screen isn't connected). At that point, unplug the power and put the adhesive strips in place (if you haven't put them on yet). Attach the LCD cables, but DON'T remove the covering on the adhesive -- temporarily hold the LCD in place with some masking tape instead (or better yet, leave it on its back, screen-up) and boot the Mac. This way it is confirmed that the logic board, power supply and LCD are working properly before you stick it back together. It sucks to glue the screen back on and find out the Mac isn't working right and have to cut through the seal again.

    Is it possible to upgrade the motherboard? For example i have an i5 and i would like to upgrade to the i7 motherboard

    • @johncoops6897
      @johncoops6897 Před rokem +1

      You can replace the CPU, the motherboards are the same. Make sure to get the exact correct i7 CPU, for example for the Late 2012, the 21.5" uses a 3770S, while the 27" apparently can use the more common 3770.

    I have a 27 inch iMac that the board just went out. Apple repair said it would cost about $600 parts and labor. This is not a hard job to do. I still have the computer but I bought a new one this week. The one out of service is a 2013. Not sure what I am going to do with the dead computer. Would love to make the repair. One thing I saw with this video. The guy did not take the time to clean the fan.

    If you know the logic board is blown microcenter is charging 969 dollars for the part alone and for labor is 80$ and my total came out to 1050 before tax I'm just putting this out there for people who are concerned about the pricing of this but remember they are apple certified to make repairs
