These guys were of a different class. They weren't just great musicians, but were great showmen as well. Glad we have preserved this footage to see what real talent was/is.
Perhaps the greatest Italian American singer performer in history....
This was filmed August 17, 1943, and released in theaters nationwide in November 1943 as part of the short film, "New Orleans Blues".
Saw Louis and Sam many times at the Sands in Vegas in the 70s. Became friends with them and cherish all the good memories. Feel blessed to have heard these great musicians live.
The word, "dynamic"comes to mind every time I see him perform.
I saw Jimmy Vincent on drums with Louie Prima many years ago. He had chops no doubt about that. He did do a drum solo playing his sticks on the tip of Louie Prima wrist watch. When you have drummers of this caliber you have a pristine world of clean clean clean clean drumming where every sticking counts. No extra mikes or gimmicks to show intense talent. Like Buddy Rich NO FUNNY HATS. You play and you need no Props. Special Lighting Special Amps. You play and thats it. No crutches just playing Talent. enough said.
Plain talent and a decidedly uncalled for monkey mask.
An absolute legend.
Oh thank you for sharing this!
Wow....female tenor sax player!!!!
Facts thats super progressive for 1946.
@@pontythython1901 Check around CZcams and see if there are clips of The International Sweethearts of Rhythm-- 1940s touring band with the USO who like the sax player in this shot wore suits, no ball gowns like Ina Raye Hutton. cheers
Thanks for sharing this amazing early footage 🙏
The best drum solo ever. Who was he?
Jimmy Vincent!
Its fascinating the way people took so much care about their appearance back then.
Looking at that lady in the audience 0:29 for instance, its almost like she's posing for a painting sitting there in all her finery. And they all look like that. Even everyone in the band.... they're all wearing tailored suits and ties with handkerchiefs. Crazy!
They may have been in costume, another commenter mentioned that this is from a Universal short called "New Orleans Blues". But it is definitely true that people dressed smart and more formally in those days.
This is from a Universal short, "New Orleans Blues," recorded August 1943.
I loved Louis when he had Keely Smith and Sam Butera and the Witnesses...that was the band all the other club bands wanted to play like.
what year is this from?do you know? it must be from the late 40's but I love Jimmy Vincent as much as I love Louis Prima excellent musicians!
My guess would be 1946.I've got a cheapy LP which has a different version of it.Prima was recording for Majestic and the reactivated Varsity Records then.In 1943,he was recording for Eli Oberstein's HIT label. In 1939,he was recording for Oberstein's original Varsity label as "Louis Prima and his Gleeby Rhythm Band".The label folded in late 1940.
@@danvanlandingham3854 This was recorded at Universal Studios August, 1943. The film short is called "New Orleans Blues". A pal sent me a copy.
Thank you! Jimmy Vincent is my father.
@@JoJoDrummers Jimmy was one of the kind without knowing Buddy Rich dug him too that was special.
@@JoJoDrummers Your dad is a super cool dude. Hope you guys are doing well.
Omg
Who is the female Sax player?
What year was this?
Bill Lenderman I’m had this clip for many years and have never seen the exact date. Jimmy was very young here and I believe he was with Prima for 24 years.

Is this before Kelley? I miss her disinterested stare
Yes, it was befrore Keely...
Sinatra had nothing on this guy
Is Louis Jr. Aware you're using his father's music to garner monetary relief?? I believe he owns the rights to all of his fathers music.
Do you know how CZcams works?!? They ARE making money off of it. I don’t monetize anything I have on my channel. Haven’t even tried nor would I.
