I'm an American ex-pat who'sbeen living in France since 2001. I have been welcomed and befriended by the French, raised two children here, and I wouldn't go back to the US for a million dollars. Well, maybe for a million, but that's about what it would take. I have NEVER sat eight hours in a doctor's waiting room, and in fact the health care system here is the best in the world and the main reason I stay (I'm 70). My best advise is to learn the language and treat people with respect.

Please remember that weather you are moving to an new city in your native nation or another nation, the truth is the same !! It is 100% your responsibility to make new friends and adjust. Leave your narcissism at home !! It has nothing to do with research. YOU have to take the initiative. Nobody is going to be IMPRESSED with you. COMMON SENSE !

Despite several good suggestions, I'm afraid this is one of the most biased, disinformed and ethnocentric videos I've ever seen. You misrepresent and dismiss whole countries and cultures based mostly on stereotypes and prejudices. And one more thing: the most stupid thing you can do while abroad, is to look for other expats. This is the best way to remain an outsider and end up replicating your lifestyle you had back home.
