- With the cost of living crisis going up in the UK, we continue to hear how much of a mistake it is to move to London nowdays. However, the UK is receiving the lagest amount of expats it ever has - So there must also be good things that are attracting expats to move!
We decided to take this question to the streets, and let Expats and Londoners answer this question - Is life in London good? What are the things they struggled with when they moved? And what advice do they have for people moving?

Tell me 1 reason what makes you haven't close friends in UK. Sorry, it's not so hard to have friends in South East Asia.
Trust me, you wont find true, good friends in adults life anywhere in the world. People just act... or just one or two are lucky and happy with whoever they are with.

Native Brit here who was born in London but has since been living in both West Yorkshire and Somerset. I would love to be able to move back to the capital, but it is just too damn expensive!

I’m a lifetime American and I’ve always been put off of moving there for that same reason. lol just found a website that says that Bexley is the cheapest place living wise in London! 915 pounds per month for a 1 bedroom flat. :D. That seems cheap enough that if I had enough income over there I would entertain it! :)
Agreed mate, I also think that London has become an even more cut throat city in terms of the wealth and class divides, and your quality of life diminishes because many people simply dont have the excess funds to actually maintain and keep up with the lifestyle they envisige living before they arrive there, unless they are earning around 50k plus per year.
I live 20 mins by train from London and only go there about 3-4 times a year. It's nice to visit but it's tiring to get around and ridiculously expensive. I never date anyone who lives in London for that reason. European cities are much cheaper, less intense and the shops don't close stupidly early.
Coming as a teacher to the Uk can I please be able to find a 1 bedroom for £400 per month in Leeds or castleford. And please is it a good place to live
It's way too expensive to live here. Basically impossible... My BIGGEST regeret was saving 100k and wasting 70% of it on a deposit on a house

part time jobs in London would help ex Londoners like me to stay longer. I was a student years ago. There is still so many charming streets to explore. I go there every 2 yrs for memories, but the accomodation costs is killing. Food is affordable. Transport costs can be cut down by walking a lot.. looking forward to you interviewing random people on how they survive by part time jobs . is there such jobs for temps.. Tq. Love your short vid😊

My dream since a little girl has been moving to London. I give credit to Mr Bean , the tv show 😅😅. The only thing that scares me is the high cost of living. I might be going as a student for a year but I would love to have more time to experience the culture and the theatre scene! I am an actor and London just sound like the ideal place for it !

@@london8701 nicer cities in the UK than London. Do you research. Places like Edinburgh, York, Newcastle. Plus a lot safer outside London which has a lot of crime. It is not called stab city for nothing.
Ignore the negativity from some of these miserable people. London is a great city with lots to do and plenty of opportunities. London doesn't need these kind of negative people, they infect everyone

London is wonderful but I've found it far busier than ever before. I'm in my 50s and would recommend avoiding London in August. Some areas are so busy, that it becomes hellish.
London in summer and around Christmas time can get SUPER busy!
Food is still incredibly cheap compared to N America.

My question to all of this is simple…. If one of disabled or in a wheelchair, as myself…. Is living in London vs. u.s.a. worth the work to do so. I’ve always wanted to live there. Clearly, after my accident, that has out a damper on many of things. Including going to places I’d like to travel or live. To anybody who lives with and works through a disability and resides in the u.k. Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for any tips pr pointers.
The tube highlights certain stations where you have step free access from the train to the street. If you need assistance, you can always ask help from the staff, I've seen them wheeling people around

From our experience London is safer than what you see on the news. We’ve never had any problems. But as with any other city, it’s always important to be careful 😊
British food consists of more than fish n chips. How about Fish Pie? Steak n Kidney Pie, Shepherd’s Pie, Beef n Oyster Pie? Oh, I don’t those so they must be bad. How about a nice trout or smoked salmon? Go to a decent restaurant and you’ll find plenty of delicious British food.

I adore London and I have decided to move there. I've spent 10 days in October last year in London, in cheap hostel, with lots of different people (which I like) and I could tell you from my experience... This City loves me as much as I love this City. I never felt stronger relationship between me and London to anyone or anything in my whole life and I've been in so many countries. I feel London as my home, my eternal love the way I couldn't say for any person in my life.
That’s ironic because my experience was the total opposite. I was beaten up, bullied at work, fell into debt because of the high living costs, everybody looked down at my engineering profession and I was even shouted at. I vow never to live in London ever again. Now I have PTSD from my horrible experience.

What costs are there to live on London besides your visa, rent, food, and travel?
Depends on your lifestyle. You should account for a SIM Card with data, your gym subscription (if you go), entertainment (if you like going out for food, drinks, etc.). So it really depends on what you like doing

Prolonged food rationing after Second World War and Industrial Revolution “lifestyle” before that might have contributed to relatively bland British food, not to mention the climate.
Is there anyone here living in London ? i might go to London this coming summer if i managed to receive the visa and i might need someone to accommodate me for at least 2 weeks. I will be ready to send all informations about me including my passport number and identity card and fullfill whatever required from me to get accepted for temporary accomodation

Not because it's poorly made video but because of the content: we used to live in London 7 years ago and was genuinely interested in hearing about cost of things, a dinner out, monthly bills, etc some details on cold hard POUNDS, etc, yet was too generic, if i can give you a suggestion, ask people specific useful things for every day living, council tax? How much is it gone up? Tube? how much is a zone 1-2 zone 1-4 cost? Etc, how much money you need at minimum for a 1 bed for a couple, etc - make it useful :)

To have a good life in London you need to earn good money. As a south european, I find life in London boring, there is no soul in the city and people are cold.
It's probably the amount of inhabitants. There are no such metropolitan, gigacities in south, something like Lisbon, Portugal is veeeery chill in fact.
London had like close to ten million people. That's whole Portugal or Greece, or one fifth of Spain or Italy. That's just helluva lot of people.
The real English Londoners are being pushed out and treated with no respect in our Beautiful Christian country.

P.S. : Had to look up some data about the subject, it looks as if Christianity is simply on a lowering trend for the last twenty or so years. Not necessarily only a multicultural effect there (as comparing the results of this survey didn't show anything that significant regarding non-Christian religions between 2011 and 2021).

Life in central London is great of you make 100k GBP after tax a year or more. Otherwise you'll feel pretty miserable and poor.

London is literally the worst city in the entire world. I was beaten up, people shouted at me, everybody looked down at my engineering degree, I was bullied constantly at work, got a lot of racist abuse, fell into a huge debt due to the high living costs, I vow never to live in London ever again.
