  • Many of us are getting about in our wool sweaters and for some of us who are in lockdown, we're unable to get to a dry cleaner. If you're after some cashmere sweater care advice, I'll show you how to skip the dry clean only tag and how to wash cashmere your sweater at home! These cashmere sweater washing instructions are what I use on my dry clean only wools and have found them to be nicer to my knitwear than the chemicals used by dry cleaners. If you want to know how to clean your cashmere sweater at home - plus some FAQ's, watch the video!
As always, if you’re unsure about washing your wools at home, it’s best to do a test run on a sweater you don’t love as much. I’ve found this method great for me, but if you’re unsure - leave it to a professional!

This is so helpful! I just purchased my first cashmere top and sweater, secondhand, and suddenly realized they will need certain care and right now dry cleaning is not an option for me! 😅

I'm in a similar position, we're in lockdown in Sydney and I miss seeing my dry cleaners, tailors and cobblers. Can't wait until it's over!

Would this be suitable for wool skirts?? I found some second hand and I’m not sure I want to wear them without a good wash first

great video!! new subscriber :) My question is after cleaning cashmere, i worry it will look like the sweater’s texture is tangled looking. how would i make it look smoother again?

Thank you for subscribing! My grey one that I washed has longer fibres of wool and it came out just as fluffy, as long as your messaging the wool when you hand wash it and you don’t wring it when wet, it should stay nice and soft and you shouldn’t get a tangled look. Also make sure it’s cold water, not hot, anything warm will cause a tangled, felted look. 🌈

Great question, there's a few variables that could impact the result and if you're unsure, it's always best to go to a dry cleaner. If it's 100% wool and doesn't have an delicate details on it; ie beading, feathers, etc, then you could try the following:
If it's just a little refresh your coat needs, I'd start by giving it a steam.
If I was washing my coat at home I'd pretreat the coats stained areas first; ie collar, underarms, cuffs, etc. Then I'd turn the coat inside out and handwash it as per the video. You can also use the handwash setting on your machine, but I strongly suggest you use a delicates bag as well.
Don't let it dry near heat, lay it flat on a clothes horse. Don't hang it on a hanger to dry, flat is best. Then give it a steam up once it's completely dry and it should be lovely and fresh again. I hope that helps. You've given me a great idea for another video :)
