- This was very fun yet nerve racking. Like anything in business there are many things that can go wrong. However i was determined to figure it out. When the crane company told me they couldn't drop the tree in the hole because it's too close to the power lines.
Boom...more uncertainty...BUT still said let's do it and the ditch witch 3000 came for the win.

72" box ancient trunk olives with crane go for around 2/3 of that 50K and in the front yard or driveways we use a 12K extension forklift with outriggers. Offload with forks, remove forks, set like a crane. I usually call the crane company for a walkthrough if there are powerlines. I also require operators that know how to lift trees, anybody can lift an air conditioner onto a roof, but trees are unbalanced. They also take talent to raise from horizontal to vertical without stressing the trunk
In a back yard like the one in your video where the long reach is key, we do use a crane for 60" boxes. We also sometimes chain the box to the excavator bucket and extend it into tight spaces that way if there are powerlines in the front that are hard for the crane to reach over. Sometimes you have to rig them sideways and reach them horizontally under the powerlines and onto timbers to slide it into the hole. If you do, it helps to brace timbers on top of the root ball.
We've done 120" BOX to 15G" and have planted (30) 84" box olives at a single home with long drive.
Paying a fortune to have a massive tree installed under power lines. lol

The Olive tree itself doesn't cost $50k. I'm not exactly sure but probably between $5k to $10k just for the tree.
Add, transportation to the job site, the crane operator cost, the cost for Applewoods time, the planting time, then factor in insurance and business overhead.
And the fact that it's Silicon Valley.
Sure, it can easily cost $50k. That's not an unreasonable estimate.
