You don't need to justify how you spend your money, you earned it, you spend it as you see fit. It's an investment in your channel which is always interesting and entertaining
Thank you for this. 😊
(I think sometimes I'm also trying to justify it to myself lol)
Wow! Stunning! Pleased for you Mark!
thanks Melanie very much appreciated. Mark
Congratulations on your olive trees! They look amazing 😍
thank you, can't wait to share the journey. mark
Those are lovely specimens, Mark! I do love the gnarly bark on old olive trees. I have seen them in Costco before and have been quite tempted, although I have to remind myself I only have a small garden lol 😂. Maybe one day when I have the space I'll get one 🤞
I'm interested to see how your olive and citrus grove comes along, as you probably know I like to experiment with citrus, so I will be looking forward to that 👍
Hi Peter
I may come to you for citrus advice!! one thing about my house - the house is tiny - like 1 bedroom, but the garden is quite large, which is a luxury.
Hope your garden and plants are thriving into spring with all the care you give them. mark
Just need one as a statement piece...
Beautiful trees best of luck
Thanks Tina, much appreciated. Mark
Congrats! Those are a steal! Next youll have to show us growing them from seed none of mine have germinated 😂
hi and thank you, I'll have a look into germinating from olive stones and possibly do a video. at least you tried right? half the things I try don't work out in fairness :-)
They look beautiful, I too have just bought myself one. Looking forward to seeing more videos xx
thank you, i'm excited and looking forward to sharing the olive grove journey with you. mark
What a fantastic project ! Look forward to seeing more videos on getting them out of the containers and into the ground ! We bought one last year and keen to get it planted properly. Great content as always. Thank you
Wow, wow and wow again! What stunning specimens!
I know, unbelievable aren't they, can't wait to start working with them and sharing. mark
Beautiful trees. Enjoy!
Amazing! Love them .Can't wait ti see more videos.
I have 4 olive trees for about 4 years now and 3 of them are blooming now for the first time so excited
excellent news, i hope you get real olives from your blossom. best wishes mark
Mark you got a great deal because I was in a garden center last weekend and olive trees the size of the trees in your other video's cost €125 each 😮 so the size of your olive trees for that price WOW
I know, I feel very lucky to have got them before they sold. thanks Peter. Mark
Great looking trees Mark 👍🏻👍🏻 wow you are a very busy man just now. Great video as always. Hope you are well mate
Thanks Colin, it really is a busy year ahead but I'm excited about it. I'm very well thanks, how are you doing? Mark
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK I will be following your progress as always mate, all good here and getting ready for my big open day for charity this year, 31st of August, so fingers crossed 🤞🏻
That's fantastic. Good luck with it, wish I was closer I'd come
I think I know the garden centre well, Grosv£n$% Garden Center. I'd have bought the older one if I could have got it home. You do you and don't worry! I bought the £70 one from Costco as I couldn't believe the price and I love it despite the fact I can't justify buying it at all other than it'll hopefully bring me years of joy. I've been wondering what to do now I have it! I've got clay soil mixed with bricks thrown in 50 years ago! I'll be watching!
Thank you! I have a farmer coming this week with a tractor to help me lift them into place. Video will follow. Good luck with yours. Mark
Wow, great find Mark. You got them for a steal. Really looking forward to the upcoming videos on Olive and Citrus trees. I have a few myself and they have proven to be quite difficult to keep during the winter months. Thankfully they are okay but I am interested to see what you do with them when you get them.
Thanks Tony, I'm very excited to share my experiences both successes and failures on this project. best wishes. mark
You don't have to justify your olive tree purchases 😂But it's sweet. Honestly 400 pounds for an olive tree that big is an AMAZING deal! Here in Zurich a tree like that would be like 3,000. No joke. Enjoy those trees, they are GORGEOUS!!!!
this message has made me feel so much better thanks ---- 3,000!!!! I got an absolute bargain :-)
They may even be more, I just can't remember the exact price. But it's enough to make your eyes bulge out, lol! I have an olive tree too, but it's a little tiny "bonsai" one (I don't think it's a real bonsai, I certainly don't do any bonsai-ing with it, nor will I ever, but it is small and in a shallow dish). I really appreciate your channel because I find the care for it quite finicky and it seems like if I do one thing wrong, it starts dropping leaves. I found it on the street, some fool had abandoned it if you can believe that! So far I've had it a year and it's still alive, it survived the winter so that's great. I will keep watching your channel for more tips and tricks and of course to follow your progress in all your wonderful garden adventures, not least of which these three new exciting beauties! :D @@MarksHouseandGardenUK
Fantastic deal Mark, well done.
That's extravagant but extravagant is amazing ... I'm trying to get my apartment as extravagant as possible
Many thanks for the quality of information you give about these wonderful trees. I have 4 trees, 2 rather large (not as large as these) and two young standard versions.
One of the older ones, and only one tends to drop most of it's foliage during the winter. Not sure why but it does, and then gets covered in new lush growth. Both potted in large pots and in the same mix of potting compound. Either way I love them, along with my numerous Palms I have growing and the solitary Bougainvillea seems to come back yearly despite the windy Cumbrian climate I have.
Many thanks once again
Thank you very much. It's reassuring also to hear that your olives do well in Cumbria. I wonder if a wind may be catching the top parts to cause them to shed leaves? In any event, it's great that they come back each time. Best wishes. Mark
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK It's the only one that does it and they are almost in the same area, yes we are in a windy spot but they all get a cover of fleece in the colder months.
Our Fig trees are also coming along well this year, loads more buds and last year we had a good healthy crop.
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Oh and a local GC near us has one of those fine looking trees you have for a couple of pounds under £2000
£400 is a bargain for an olive tree that size. And I'm doing the same as you with CZcams earnings, Mark. I'm putting it all back into the garden to make more content. In this way, the garden should pay for itself!
I think it's a brilliant way to look at it. aren't we lucky to be in this position? by the way - i haven't forgotten your offer of advice, I'll be calling on you very soon! ;-)
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Thanks both - really inspirational for a smaller youtuber to look forward to this kind of activity in the future! Great trees Mark, I have a baby one for my smaller garden. Where there's a will, there's a way!
Enjoying your channel and content very much too 😊
Hi Mark, I saw the exact same ones in Costco too. There were also smaller ones which sell for around £200 in garden centres for £90. Shame I have really heavy clay or I would also be investing. Keep the vids coming.
Hi and Thank you, and because you have clay soil I will share mine with you in videos here :-) thanks for watching. Mark
Magnificent
Thanks Will, I'm looking forward to sharing progress of the olive and citrus garden. Mark
A bit out of my price range at the minute😂 but maybe at some point you could root some cuttings I could buy from you or even maybe help with the garden one day if you need help.😂👌👌👌👌 You got a bargain there.
a bit out of my price range if I'm totally honest! lol where in the UK are you located?
Lovely Trees how you going to move them ? 🐸💚🐸
Great question, I have a few thoughts based on what I worked out in this short video; czcams.com/video/ldK7YzBomSY/video.html
Ok Mark, I thought you had a cottage, but that older picture you just showed looks like a castle! So beautiful!!!
The trees are beautiful also!
Hi. That's my previous house. I've since downsized. So yes it was a large house...now I'm in a tiny one 😂
Have seen these in our local CostCo and have been tempted. How will you get something that size planted ? Do you have lifting equipment ?
Hi Mark. I have several thoughts and ideas on moving and planting, it will be an interesting and entertaining video in the very near future.
I am new to gardening and would really like to get some olive trees, your videos are very informative and interesting, also nice to see a local person to myself, may need to pay a visit to Costco Chester usually end up going to Trafford. One question I had in regards to planting olive trees, would it be advisable to start the trees in larger than they need pots to begin with or work the pot size up as they grow?
Hi Sami. It's an interesting question about the pot sizes. Many pro gardeners say 'don't increase the pot too much, just one size at a time'. In all honesty I've never really understood that rationale...if you planted it in the ground the pot is effectively infinite... anyway, from a practical perspective, I would do what suits you. Less pot equals less expense and less compost. I'm aware I haven't really answered your question 🙄
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Hi Mark, thank you for your response in effect you have answered my question as if the plant was planted in the ground the pot size is infinite so a pot size from the beginning shouldn’t really make a difference as long as the plant is nurtured and cared for, it is a delight to see your channel and watch some local content. Good luck with everything in the future hope to see more
My daughter got one the same as yours but it’s struggling but still getting new leaves so hoping it should survive 🤞so looking forward to all your helpful advice
hi, i'll be sharing my thoughts about how best to care for these in the near future. perhaps your daughter should prune a little when the weather gets just that little bit warmer. Mark
Thanks and we will
They are so beautiful. I would love to have one but knowing me they probably ended up dead😅. Thanks for sharing. Fantastic
Hi! You can share mine here on CZcams - let's hope I don't kill these :-) Mark
Muy buen video
and thank you again. Mark
I saw these in Costco and realised they were cheap compared to garden centres but wondered how I’d get them home !
HI Dean, I've actually done a video on how to move large plants (not published yet) - but basically I went onto facebook and searched 'man with a van'. mark
Thanks Mark but I think ill stick with my £5 rescue olive 😂
No justification needed, if its what you enjoy then you do as you wish, you cant take the money with you !
thanks, I'm feeling better now. I hope your olive is doing well, I also get a great deal of pleasure from my 'rescue' olives when they come back to life. thanks again. mark
Absolute bargain mark. Looking forward to seeing how you plant them, they must weigh a ton. Maybe the mini digging from next door would come in handy. I also like olive trees .
hi Frank , thank you, I'm actually thinking of just planting them almost on the surface and mounding up to their ground level - to aid drainage, moving them is going to be interesting :-)
so cheap!! Here in Thailand this size it would cost 2000 each
Gosh wow! I definitely got a bargain then
Stunning Olive, but it does sound like you're practising your reasoning before you go in and tell the wife.
haha! my other half needs no encouragement when it comes to spending :-) in fact, it was them that found the olives in the first place - i'm lucky in that way :-)
Good stuff, your a lucky man. Enjoy the trees.
Nice one .. I bought one of the smaller ones from Costco .. absolute bargain
brilliant! also, did your costco have those box pyramids? so tempted
No didn’t see any of those.. were they nice ..
Where’s your local Costco, mines Southampton
I'm Chester or derby 😊
brilliant logic
unfair of you to compare a local garden center with a huge corporation like costco who is able to cut everyone's cost by sheer volume. If you had the opportunity to get this from a local company and you specifically opted not to, then shame on you. gardening is about sustainability but you're not embodying it with this decision.
So I assume you never shop at a supermarket?
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK great reply.
Yes I think so too. A lot of hypocrisy about isn't there
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK I shop local and do not use supermarkets. But that isn’t the point. You’re not addressing the point I’m trying to make about your own choice. Even if I were being hypocritical, it wouldn’t change the point I’m making.
Yep, make you right. Have exactly Identical tree which I bought from wholesale olive tree, paid the same 2yrs ago, so does anyone ask how much profit garden centres are making, if they lower their mark ups , they might sell more. That's WHY the trees are always just sitting there, in corners of these garden centres instead of people's gardens.
The question I have is who is digging up and selling these 100 year old trees? This is some guy's hobby who is so interested in the money return he gets from videos about olives and not in their place of origin. One can guess money is again the driver for the seller, who may be in some poverty - or just greedy. Let's reverse the process. Imagine a beautiful mature oak in your town or village was dug up by the owner and shipped off to China to become the centre piece of an 'english' garden for a few hundred pounds. And imagine this was happening all over Britain as the wealthy Chinese tourists want to be reminded of their visit. Would you support that? Perhaps we should move away from the idea that if you have the money, then you can get what you want when you want it. How about being more sensitive to the natural environment and change our perspective?
How about they might be clearing old redundant olive groves to refresh them or to build housing for homeless or hospitals??? Do you actually know or are you speculating? I suspect that YOU MARK BARKER, are doing things EVERY DAY in your own life which contradict your point....perhaps you are a hypocrite? Who knows. I certainly wouldn't make assertions about your views or opinions without first knowing facts. Come to my comments section with FACTS (not assumptions) and I will listen.
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK As you can see I was asking questions. Of course only you can supply the answers - if you know where exactly where they came from and the reasons they were offered for sale. I'm not sure making your points in shouty capitals, showing how riled you are, is a good look for your subscribers.
Not riled MARK. And now I feel you are back tracking. You made implications and assertions without evidence. Poor form. Feel free to unsubscribe.
