Never understood why they would have to tell Sauron. With his enormous spiritual power, the Dark Lord had a connection established to each one of the Nazgul, so he must have felt the Witch King's extinction without being explicitly told. Remember that he remote-controlled the Nazgul when they were preparing the Battle at the Black Gate and re-directed them to Mount Doom when Frodo claimed the One Ring for himself.

These are, by far, the most entertaining and engaging lotr videos on youtube (or anywhere really). The extensive use of the maps and innovative but simple use of the character tokens does wonders to help make sense of a very deep and often confusing world. There are so many "aha" moments when you can connect the history of a place or structure to the events in the movies. it gives smaller moments welcomed gravitas and almost has a mental 3d effect in the sense that a scene set in field or near a ruin carries more weight because I now know what happened there 2 or 300 (or thousand) yrs prior. I've watched most of these videos multiple time as if I'm studying for a test and it is not time wasted, outstanding work!!!!

Same here! I was so pumped when the 9 Nazgul came knocking at Saruman's door...
I read that part when only PJ's FOTR had came out in theatre, so it was a bit before all the infos on the 3rd age was available everywhere through games, fan websites/forums, and videos like this one were available
So it hadn't been spoiled for me yet that there were some cool deleted scenes of what the 9 did during the first book when they weren't seen by the fellowship... so all the additional stuff was so exciting, I loved Bree and the spies, like Bill Ferny or the "goblin-man" who was at the Prancing Pony, who was working for Saruman, who was paid by Sauron, etc...
One part of the nazgul travels I wish this video had covered was during the Two Towers, when the 3 groups of orcs have captured Merry and Pippin; Grishnakh had a Nazgul on a fell beast who was following him with a band of 40 orcs
(Ugluk had 80 Uruks, so he outnumbered him, and there were also some orcs from the mines of Moria who had followed them to avenge their dead, that Grishnakh tries to rally to him when they declare that they just wanted to try to catch them, but now that they're away they want to go back to the mines.
I don't recall these Moria orcs being specifically numbered*** *see end of the post for details on that*, but Boromir killed a bunch of them before the Isengard Uruks killed him with their bow)
Ugluk insists that Grishnakh sticks with him until they reach Orthanc, since he suspects him to want to try to bring the hobbits to the Nazgul to bring them to Sauron.
Sadly in the movies they fight over eating Merry & Pippin, and Grishnakh looked cool but had little dialogue.
Worse, in the extended scenes, it's implied that they were sent by Saruman to meet with the Uruks and come back, so they wouldn't even have the fell beast to fly them away...
I was saddened by the simplification, but whatever, they were still pretty damn good movies.
***that part was actually filmed by Peter Jackson but never included in the film; the Mora Goblins following the Fellowship I mean, with the sun setting down and all until the run too far away.
the footage was used extensively for promotion photos, and the LOTR collectible card game, aka *LOTR TCG* by Decipher, it was a great game that ran from 2001 to 2007, and was a lot of fun to play on the side for Magic players.
Too bad the online servers closed in 2010, but since Decipher lost the licence in 2007 they couldn't release new editions and interet faded.
Anyway, I was wondering which Nazgul it was or if there was only one; Ugluk seems to refer to only one while talking about the plan, but he also didn't know about the ring, while it's clear that Grishnakh knows about Gollum and the ring.
Dang it, this morning I told myself i'd stop writing essays on youtube >< I tried

Imagine literally traveling all the way across Middle Earth on a multiple month journey from the Far East to the Far. And after multiple dead ends you finally find the place you’ve been searching for all this time. You then question someone about the one called “Baggins” and the location of the ring, just for them to tell you that the person who has the ring you seek just left that very morning and is no longer there. I’d be so mad bro! 💀💀

Funny anecdote: in the original drafts of LOTR, Frodo was going to push Gollum with the Ring to his death in the Sammath Naur. Then, the entrance of the Chamber is blocked by the Witch King: either Frodo says he is the Ringmaster and commands him to jump in the fire, or Sa heroically appears and stabs the Witch-King from behind, slaying him. In the oldest version there was even a sketched duel between Sam and a surviving Ringwraith on a rock island floating over the magma. Outstanding 😃

Word on advice on first reading on Silmarillion.
Don't try remembering all characters, all their names, or family connections. You will loose time, and later, you can always go back, and re-read about someone that you want to know more about. Just read it, as it is, without effort of remembering and connecting everything, and most important characters, and events, will pop up anyway.
Silmarillion is definitely not a book for single reading.

Hmm.. that's an interesting thought, never thought of it.
You mean like: Balrog carved a way like a mole from Angbad to Moria? Under the ground?
I must admit I never thought it that way, and I like the idea, although I don't believe (yet) in such scenario. I just believe he run away in open field. :)
I doubt there's been a cave route from Angband to Moria... the cave had to be something like... 2000-5000km distance... so either Balrogs have a mole skills, or could shapeshift as Sauron, so maybe he came to Moria as an giant mole :)
But either way, your thought is very interesting and thank you for that. :)
