Those foam "puzzle piece" like square panels sometimes used to line play areas for kids make a great road surface for these little wheels. They're also affordable and lend themselves well to covering a lot of area with minimal effort and no tools.
Alternatively, if you have a running track near you with fairly laid back patrons/management you can get enough open space to really let all those horseflies to buzz and skidder and scamper. IME a lot of folks actually seem to get a kick out of it. A rubberized surface is actually a lot better than a gymnasium floor or similar smooth, hard surface because no matter how clean they look within about 5 minutes of driving your wheels are inevitable caked in dust and axles choked with hair.
Decent video , background music is a lil loud. Covers over you talking at many points in the video.
Thanks, I'll check it out.
I agree awesome video
This is a really good video. Thanks for making it. 👊
Thanks! Your welcome!
Set gear mesh by hitting the throttle trim button on the transmitter one time. If the wheels dont turn with one press theres binding somewhere. This will increase motor temps and eat up the brushes faster. 2x5x2.5mm losi bearings can be used to replace the bushings in the motor, this reducese friction, increases speed, and lengthens durability. I have a 400$ fully built gen 1, and built gen 2 and a k989, all running 31t motors on k989 escs. 2s lipo conversion will wear brushes faster so a plasma dash/pn racing type motor can is reccomended with better cooling and brush setups
That's awesome info! I don't have the original remote anymore but I'll keep that reference in mind. Glad to know they are 31T motors with those bearings. I had been playing around with turning my own motors and couldn't find a "golden spot" in turns but with bearings... your right, will resolve most of my heating issues. I still need to get a Resin 3D printer for parts. It's fragile now.
@@backtothetrackgarage8790 Hey good advice and video folks. What kind of 3D printer are you looking for to print parts?
@@djlyfe557 I haven't done much research atm. Do you have a recommendation?
I have some of these left over makes me want to fire them up.
They sell for a good value on ebay, so polish up what you got for sure!
I have that yellow vette
What did you use to mount the servo to the chassis and what did you use as linkage between the servo and the steering bar?
I just used a small section of 3M 15lbs double sided tape to hold it, and I believe the original steering arm, but I may have made one. I'll be posting a video shortly soon.
I have a lot of these that i found on market place, all of the steering servos are jittery, any suggestions on how to fix that?
On the stock electronics? No... well.. maybe some kind of "reballing" process to remelt the solder on the board to make sure the connections are intact but that could also further damage the board and components.. but maybe a similar process could be achieved safely by hand melting each solder point with a normal soldering iron.. it's a gamble though. Those cars are super old now having gone through all kinds of possible deterioration environments like near the beach or water. That's why the complete change in components.. sad to say nothing lasts forever if not properly stored..just sitting around.
Decided to do this with my xmods but having trouble with the reciever, when i turn on the esc the light doesn't turn on on the reciver unless i put it in the vcc port but than nothing else works
It sounds like your using a reciever that was used on a Nitro car. That was the way they were set up on vcc. Strange there's nothing on other channels. Black wires should be on outer edge. How long have you had that receiver? Also check your alignment dials if you have them and center them. Being slightly off will not calibrate with the receiver when turned on.
Do you have a link for the connectors/harnesses to connect the batteries and motor?
Did you mean for the 30a Brushed ESC? "JST Plug Connector 2 Pin Male Female Plug Connectors 10 Pairs" a.co/d/8g7VCTC
Do you have a vid of the entire convertion u got one love to conver it the Servo the battery al that and if I use a mini z engine will it work?
I have just made a video on the conversion topic, but more to come. And yes you can use the Mini z motor on it.
Hi, can someone answer what connectors they used? To connect to the batteries
The Red connectors are JST Plugs and the white ones are Molex Plugs.
Could you please post links to what you used? Definitely want to get mine on lipo instead of nimh AAAs.
Just added them to the video description. Thank you for reminding me to add it. I totally rushed and forgot.
Any plans on repainting the bodies ?
Think plastidip should work well if you mask off the right places & clean the body before you start & work slowly with letting each layer dry properly for like 4 - 6 hours.
Ofc have a hobby knife too cut out around the masking so you don't end up ripping off the plastidip where you don't want it too let go.
That's a good idea, I'll set up for that episode. They deserve a good look.
Do you have links for the ESC and controller?
I do, I just posted them in the Video Description.
How much was it to convert this I want to do that to my Evo gen 1 or two
About $75. Well worth it for the speed and transmitter flexibility. I Might have to invest in a 3D printer though. The shaft cups are prone to wear down naturally on either system and are just extremely hard to find replacements.
Awesome video I just revived my old first gen xmod (skyline), and well yeah it's slow, unresponsive and needs some power. Has a stage 2 motor, I'm sure these upgrades would help with more power from the stage 2, better steering, more responsive?
They will definitely help, The lipo batteries @ 7.4v, alone gives a significant boost compared to the 6v the AAA batteries give. The new radio system is much more responsive and smoother. Plus you could also later swap over to brushless.
@@backtothetrackgarage8790 can I just do the battery upgrade first and also help the steering now that its more juiced up? I just found some hosim 7.4 1600 mah rechargables that I had for a off-road truck I have 2 of them, can I just buy some tclip wiring and just run 1 of them? Or should I get some batteries like yours, just wondering cause I have these already..thanks man!!!
@@theodorecarbajal2975 I remember we used to wire a 5th AAA battery onto the original board all the time. So I would say yes why not. Just keep in mind that being so old, something may fry or "cook", but should operate for some duration of time.
Do you do zipzaps Se fett and lipo mod?
I used to have one when they first came out... matter of fact it was a different company... Tomy Bit Char-G, the Skyline, and they were almost just like the zip zaps but, I felt, were better. I think RadioShack just copied it. I haven't seen them around. I'll keep an eye out for one.
Have you tried looking on eBay you can still find a bunch of parts for them
I have, and I'll be ordering something soon.
And the conector you use so I can buy them
All the parts should be listed in the video description section.
corvitte.
Make a vid on how to convert to the modern tech
Hi, as in a full breakdown and mod vid? Sure.
Do another video without the music 😢
Oh wow your right I didn't realize the music is too loud.
I have a red xmods supra I'm selling, complete kit just have no chrystals
Not only am I interested... I have to ask. Are you sure you want to sell it? They are becoming so rare especially since the fall of RadioShack... some unboxed original XMODS are about $200 now. 4 times the original price! And we all should know, to go get a Kyosho for that price. Parts availability is nearly dead unless you own a 3d printer which I am in the middle of acquiring now, on top of my next new showcase setup. When I'm ready I'll check back. But in the meantime, I'm building and preparing to showcase details of RC cars in a way no one else has done before. So I'll need some time, but I'll keep in touch.
