OOPS! When I said the Goldring Elan and Electra were based on the Red Ed I got my supply chains a little confused. Both the Red Ed and the Goldring carts were based on the Chuo Denshi MG-29D. Thanks to gotham61 for pointing that out. :)

I just purchased a E3 brand new and premounted on a headshell (also new) for $89!

I always learn something new from your presentations. You mentioned styli shape and its potential effect of sound reproduction. Could you please do a talk on that issue?

    Hi Joe,
    Thanks for the review.
would I be better off with a new Jico stylus for my worn out Stanton 681 or buying one of these E3's?
what would bring the best quality do you think?

Interestingly enough, I had a much costlier G1042 mounted on my Rega Planar 3 (2016) - with no shims and after Rega Exact it did sound more 'analogue' and organic, had wider soundstage and had a nice bass tracking, though overall less detailed than the exact (midrange instrumental details often got buried in the mix). That G1042 suffered a catastrophic failure a month ago, when its centilever got bent after being dropped on a record that was either too high or had some kind of friction on its surface, so with only 400hrs on it, sadly it got retired and I purchased the more affordable E3 out of interest and I must say that the difference in sound quality is far less than in terms of price. E3 tracked all those instrumental details better than G1042 whose roaring brass, drum and bass sections would bury those secondary instruments. But maybe that's why E3 is so often criticized sounding un-analog and a bit sterile. AAA records sound great on E3 but it doesn't have that almpst velvety roar that the G1042. It is also a quiet cartridge with a much quieter surface noise. Anyway, I intend to use it as a backup cartridge when my main cart but I'm not.sure I want to go for g1000 series anymore

  • @HardKickinGroupGermany

Is the E3 a good tracker for heavy modulated grooves? Because it's a *bonded* elliptical stylus, I'm thinking, that it could have problems to keep up the pace.

      @EzeeLinux  Před rokem

It does very well... I have played a few "hot" 45's with it and heard no major issues. It may be bonded but it's well done. :)

    Thanks for the review. Nice!
1.Would the E3 be a good paired on a vintage Pioneer PL 1200?
    2. Would the 2M Blue be considered an upgrade forgetting the price difference?
    Thanks in advance!

@@EzeeLinux - You got me curious about these Stanton's, Joe. Channel separation on some of these cartridge specs look incredible! Those fat, metal bodies just look too sexy also. I want my cartridges to not only sound good, but to look good too. Is that being too selfish? 😄

would the E3 work in an Elac Miracord 50?

It should but you may want to contact Elac. They might have some inside info on swapping carts. :)

It's a VM95E wrapped up in a different body with a British manufacturer price hike. Fitting a RigB body to the VM95E will get you much better performance.

E is flatter and Don't be so quick to dismiss the E3...I have the ATVM95EN and I can hear a distinct difference. It's just a bigger sound from the E3. The AT is more "polite" sounding with less stereo pizzazz for sure. :)The AT might be just a touch cleaner on the highs, though. I'm still listening. :)

Should open up after about 60 hours
I wonder if you can do us a favour, record a album with the E3, I can't buy this album it's never for sale anywhere, only one album was ever made in 1968 there is no copyright I don't think other people put it on CZcams but the quality is so bad. That would be (The sound defects-the iron horse), just like a jamming album I believe from New York funk R&B with a bit of new age, why these people only made one album I don't know! they were a band I think making other records session musicians collaboration with some other musicians and they come up with this album. Be nice to get a copy in good condition but doesn't look like it's going to happen, I've been waiting about six years my record shops say they're gonna get it but nothing materialises, it's a bit of a noisy record I think not particularly put together record mastered I mean, A record like that could do with a really good clean with the right pick up might be okay be nice to hear a good recording. I will watch this space shall I lol
