  • As it's a World Cup year I thought it was appropriate to post Kevin Allen's brilliant video diary of Italia 90. It's in it's entirety and not in bits and pieces so sit back, relax and enjoy a trip back in time to one of the most iconic World Cup's ever held and to what was a magical Summer and a memorable time in English football history.

Watched it back then and probably watch it about every 6 months since. A very important documentary. Probably one of the best world cups and my favourite too.

I remember watching this when it first aired, weirdly it aired on New Years Eve night so not many people got to see it. It was played one more time a few years later, but I will tell my mate to watch this as he was camping on Sardinia for the group stages, cheers.

Nothing captures the feeling and mood of Italia 90 better than this documentary. If you add it to the brilliant United BBC documentary of the same year, a series that followed Sheffield United's promotion to the First Division, and one of my favourite ever seasons as a Blade, you get a fantastic snapshot of football - and attendant politics - as it was 31 years ago. It was the first time England made me shed tears of disappointment, something only Sheffield United had managed up until then.

This was a great watch I enjoyed it a lot, thanks for uploading.
It's mad your man Kevin is Keith Allens younger brother and Lily and Alfie's Uncle. Fair play to him for sleeping rough and getting the footage.

I'm Irish and can only admire this documentary. Ireland qualified for the first time and had great success reaching the quarter finals without even winning a game lol. England had a great team and should have reached the final, it's a shame. Same in 1996, better team in the semi but unlucky on penalties.

This is my 2nd favourite World Cup tournament after 1986, and that's only because the 1986 tournament was the first one I ever watched.

This is an outstanding documentary. It's rough and ready. You have to admire these guys for backing their team. This more than just entertainment. It’s history. 🇮🇹 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇩🇪 🇦🇷 🇧🇷 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇳🇱 🇺🇾 🇪🇬 🇮🇪 👍

One thing that does stand out is the lack of England flags. Plenty of Union Jacks, but not so many St George Crosses. I applied to go to see England in Sweden two years later. As I recall it, the official fan package was two weeks on a campsite (no details) for £1000. That didn't include tickets or travel. 20 years later I watched England in Ukraine, only to find out from a Swedish tv crew that UEFA had block-booked every single hotel room in the Donetsk region for UEFA officials and sponsors.

I was there and it also kicked off against Ireland because some Irish waved a pro IRA flag at the England fans (red rag to a bull)and all that .
Had a great time overall and have fond memories of the matches I witnessed although England were lucky against Egypt ,and witnessed a fantastic electrical storm during the Ireland game

The fans didn’t take the money home, they didn’t have it. They taught Gino to take payments on arrival.

Unfortunately English fans who followed their teams in European competitions, and who followed the England national team, in the 1990's, were paying for the sins of the behaviour of English fans in the 1970's and 1980's. It was so obvious that was going to happen. I remember going to watch Manchester United in the 2nd leg of the Champions League quarter final in 1997 in Oporto, where we'd already won the first leg at Old Trafford 4-0. We had the police firing rubber bullets at us, and a terrible experience getting into the ground. No surprise whatsoever.
