    I agree with Michael Kay, there appeared to be no sense of urgency in this team throughout this series. 4-for-26 (.154), speaks for itself, as well as Happ's, Sevy's, and CC's outings in which none of them pitched at least 4 innings.

      tbh they really didnt play outstanding baseball all year, the first half yes but they lost to so many below .500 teams. also lost the division by 7 or 8 games.they did have injuries they just looked like there was zero urgency all year until the 9th inning of game 4 when it was wayyy too late. at least girardi held people accountable and had balls to win a game. i think cashman needs to let boone manage a bit more cause all they do is let him make a gameplan but he doesnt make any real time decisions, the way alex cora did this series. and stanton just does not fit into this team, hes either a strikeout or home run and even when he homers its usually in dead time when were up 6 runs or so he just looked lost all year.

    Can I start with Boone? Game 3, Luis Severino didn’t know what time the games started and got to the bullpen late and didn’t warm up enough and I think Boone should make sure everyone knows what time the games start. Then when Luis Severino was obviously struggling, he left him in way too long and went to Lace Lynn instead of Chad Green or David Robertson or Dellin Betances, then Lynn threw nothing but balls and then Benintendi hit a bases clearing double. That killed the Yankees in game 3 and killed the momentum for the rest of the series. Offense never showed up again. Poor decision making by Boone. Sometimes the defense would mess up. Finally the offense didn’t show up very much in the last 2 games. C.C Sabathia also didn’t have it in game 4 and Boone, saying he learned his lesson, did it again. And sent Zach Britton in the middle innings and that allowed another homer in game 4. Boone doesn’t know how to wake up a team or get a team riled up, he doesn’t when to take a starter out, he doesn’t know who to send to the mound, he doesn’t know how to make sure the team knows what time the games start, he never got on Gary Sánchez for lack of hustle or Gary’s defense or Gary chasing pitches. Aaron Boone just did an awful job managing this team despite the 100 wins. 1 thing I liked was using Dellin Betances more this year because it really helped Betances get back on track. Yankees also should be more aggressive and smarter at base running like the Red Sox were not only during the series but during the entire year. Yankees also needed more contact hitting than just power hitting. I love home runs but sometimes less is more. And again it felt like ground balls was the Yankees defense’s kryptonite.

      @etamommy Před 5 lety +1

      I agree with most of what you say, however I have to think that his protection of Sanchez when I was ready, like many fans to run him out of town, was correct. He was getting his swing back and was one of the only Yanks in postseason (exceptions being Judge and Voit who seemed dangerous for the pitchers during post season). I do vehemently agree that an attempt to get hits and not pull everything, kill everything is needed by maybe a segment of our line-up. We need to be able to get runs by stringing hits together too and using all parts of the field. The sense of urgency and passion was lost it seemed and it is hard not to blame Boone a bit with his manner and his maneuvers or lack of them.

  • @Sam_on_YouTube
    @Sam_on_YouTube Před 5 lety +5

    What went wrong is my biggest complaint with Boone, and a complaint I did not expect to have. He never made the team gel. Yes, he made mistakes on the field. He should have had Robertson up and not Lynn. There is no scenario in which Lynn should replace Sabathia in the middle of an inning. He could have been getting loose, but the one warming should have been Robertson. But that wasn't the biggest problem.
    The biggest problem was that they couldn't build on each other's energy to string together hits and capitalize on opportunities. And that is a problem with the club phone. With so many missed chances for a big hit from so many players who played well otherwise, that is a mental issue in the clubhouse. It is an issue that became undeniable mid-seasom and hasn't improved.

    First of all let's give the Yankees some credit for going this far. Now let's talk about the Red Sox for a minute. Did you notice the
    similarities with this Red Sox team and the '86 Mets? The '86 Mets won 108 games which the Red Sox did this year. The Mets
    had a guy named Mookie Wison the Red Sox have Mookie Betts, the Mets played the Houston Astros in the '86 championship series and who are the Red Sox playing in the championship series? None other than the Houston Astros. Too much coincidencefor me. Look! I don't care how many championships the Red Sox win, that '86 world series will forever haunt they're ass. So now
    you're trying to expel it by copying '86 Mets? Maybe, maybe not! But then again, I still don't understand why the Astros were moved to the American league? Think about it for a ninute, see if it makes sense to you.

    Red Sox guy here - it seems at strategic times when the Red Sox pitchers couldn't find the plate if their life depended on it the Yankees bailed them out by swinging at high fastballs and way low and away sliders on numerous occasions. It seemed that Stanton was especially guilty of this. We all thought when we got Martinez we were getting the consolation prize but for this year anyways it doesn't seem to worked out that way.

    Bottom line: get the pitcher to come into the zone and don't swing at pitches out of the zone. Simple as that. The regular season with sub par pitchers to beat up on, and their approach of taking pitches and working the count, doesn't play well in the postseason -- the pitchers usually are better at working the corners and getting ahead. They took too many pitches in the zone and fell behind, and good pitchers will eat you alive when they're ahead. It's the story of the Yankees the last 10 years.

    4:00 "...gotta get a feel for the game..." describing that Yankees game plans are all scripted by the analytic guys beforehand. I don't believe that. Obviously every team now has an analytics staff. But it's up to Boone, who will never have a "feel for the game." The guy is the most schizophrenic, asinine manager I've seen. Almost from the very beginning, you knew this was no Joe (take your pick). Boone left baseball.... what, six years ago? ... to then go sit in a broadcast booth, so Cashman hires him with zero managerial experience. Aaron Boone is nothing like Alex Cora when it comes to managing, and never will be. Boone doesn't have the instincts for the game that all great managers must have. His home-run-happy (or nothing) lineup cannot save him because most of them don't know how to play baseball, only home run derby. Boone must spend most of his strategy time coming up with new ways to rearrange the batting order. That's the only thing - you can be sure of that - that changes from game to game.

    • @etamommy
      @etamommy Před 5 lety

      In that loss a couple things stood out re-watching it after I had cooled down and could be more analytical: We couldn't get the key hit. Had more than one chance prior to 9th inning to score but nobody came through. Two, our relievers were pretty darn good. Only Britton gave up a run and that one not actually a bad pitch but Vazquez just showed a Opp field swing that did the trick. Three: Red Sox made a couple VERY good defensive plays that saved the Win for them. Inning 9 the blocked ball when Sanchez was up I believe would have allowed everyone to move up had it passed Vasquez at the plate. Run 3 would have scored, and it would have probably been runners on 3rd and 2nd, score 4-3. Then Sanchez, if he still has the same fly ties the game with that drive. Finally the play to get Torres for the final out was a good play by Nunez (formerly a much worse player for Yanks when we had him) to field and throw so quickly but the throw was wide of first and Pearce made a fantastic catch and stretch to end the game. Also, Torres's at bat was not bad and he hung in on a tough tough pitch there, though stepping toward right and hitting the ball to the opposite field would have likely won the game- it was a good good pitch.
      So, while I thought the small things did not go Yanks way, it was not a honor-less loss. However, the game before was another story and that loss falls on Boone who should have been more serious about trying to win that game! Eovaldi, another castaway from the Yanks because when we had him he was fair to middling, comes back to kill us! UGHHH!

    Look, the Yankees need to add some really good pitching for next year. They don't need the arrogant man-child Manny Machado. Nor do they need to add Bryce Harper. They have enough hitting. Unless they trade on of their top young hitters for a top pitcher, then they can think about adding another bat... maybe. That said, they MUST try to add another top flight pitcher, if at all possible.
