  • With a combined area of 1.5 hectares, Georgian Park and adjacent woodlot are located in Kitchener’s Grand River North neighbourhood, which was developed from 1981-2000. The contiguous green space is bordered by Matthew Street, Georgian Crescent and Muskoka Court, with a west-side path linking Heritage Drive and Matthew Street. Earth paths crisscross the mature maple-beech woodlot, ravine, and Georgian Park. A 2021 proposal to redevelop 210 Heritage Drive to build 26 stacked townhouse units generated some local opposition to the adverse impact on the woodlot, which contains nearly 130 trees, of which more than a third would be removed, although the developer revised the initial proposal to decrease the number of units and better situate the townhouses to minimize the impact on the woodlot. For more information, see “Kitchener residents worry a 26-unit stacked townhouse development in their Stanley Park neighbourhood will increase traffic and remove 45 trees”, reported by Liz Monteiro, Waterloo Region Record, June 11, 2021.
