  • An early spring walk beside the Grand River on the Pollock Family Trailway, a link in the 42 kilometre Walter Bean Grand River Trail. Paths ring 2 ponds of 1.7 hectares between an industrial area and the Grand River at Kitchener’s Stanley Park Optimist Natural Area. They filter run-off storm water for slow release into the Grand, providing a riparian habit. The linear 3 km Pollock Trailway, part of the Walter Bean Grand River Trail, faces the Breslau moraine embankment. The trail follows a Kitchener meander on the Grand River from the Victoria Street Bridge to Bingemans across the floodplain and a cedar grove. Pennsylvania-German Mennonite John Bingeman settled the site in 1825. The farm was transformed into a recreational venue by his descendant Marshall Bingeman in 1960. The Pollock family founded Kitchener's Electrohome in 1907. Carl Pollock received the Order of Canada in 1975 for his distinguished service.
