Centrobolus splendidus Red Fire Millipede

  • Splendid indeed, Mozambique Red Fire Millipedes are arguably the most attractive species in the pet millipede hobby. Centrobolus splendidus have been captive-bred in the US hobby for many years and they remain one of the most desirable millipedes in the history of the hobby due to their glossy red coloration and ease of care. They thrive on an organic compost substrate with plenty of wood and leaves, and will eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. I also supplement their diet with protein-based pet foods. They tolerate more dryness than some species, but are subject to drying out very quickly if kept in high ventilation environment. Room temperature is just fine for these, with normal day and night fluctuations.

This video immediately evoked a desire in me to write because of the symbolism that it represents in our current natural state. The duality of nature is what keeps us interested and at the same time a little uneasy which is neither good or bad. . The color red also has its own duality-signifying love and passion (as in the desire to own one of these Mozambique Red Fire Millipedes) while on the other side, exposing danger and destruction that recently ravaged parts of the Pacific Northwest (Oregon and Washington) and California with dangerous wildfires. The red hot sun an indication of the hazardous air quality that persisted for days on end. At a time when we are in a pandemic it is easy to get depressed and lose hope when nature has struck again, but one thing I have learned from @bugsincyberspace is that life is beautiful and we focus on that more than the negative. So, my desire is for anyone who lost everything in the wildfires is to think of their lives as a blank slate, just as Peter's plain white shirt in this video. What would you want to put on that white shirt? A new bug from @bugsincyberspace? A new design by @shapesinnature? A new vision for what your life will be after this, focusing on the possibilities of what it means to start anew, just as the bugs do! 🙂 Be the conductor in your own life just as the millipedes conduct their many legs!😉

I might refer you to Sigmund Freud, least of all because he famously said "Sometimes a millipede is just a millipede." Always fun to see you here. You always make the most of everything!

@@bugsincyberspace Ah Peter, let me raise you "A picture is worth a thousand words!" OR "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." But, most importantly, Freud coined "free association" for these instances. He said millipedes and you saw green perhaps, while I saw red and associated current events! Thank you for always allowing me to be "free" to be ME! 😁😉🙏

Happily, yes, but you may want to keep some of the millipedes in their own enclosure, as well. It's possible that some eggs may become lunch for your fancy isopods in the communal tank.
