My theory is that Rick really does give a fuck.

What do all heroes have in common? Any known loved one gets used against them every chance available. If Rick acts like he gives no fucks, then there is that chance his family wouldn't be involved. I mean, if you had infinite family members, you could easily hide caring about them. Pretty sure none of Ricks family we see are his originals, but I'm sure he doesn't wasn't to keep finding replacements. Could drive a person mad.
He only gives a fuck about the McNugget Szechuan teriyaki dipping sauce.

interesting thing you guys might have missed (this goes out to everyone else too) Rick c-137 (the rick that kept switching bodies) was the only one who had drool on his bottom lip. every other rick in this episode that wasn't him didn't have that little detail.

Rick knows he is a cartoon. And he also knows what will happen when his show is cancelled; his entire universe will be destroyed. It's the fact that Rick knows that he is in a cartoon that explains why he breaks the fourth wall so often. And maybe the reason he keeps going on adventures is to keep the audience entertained so that the show is never cancelled. Which is also why he has so many catch phrases: to give the audience something to remember from the series.
He actually kind of breaks the fourth wall in this episode as well, because at the very end, he starts ranting about the Mulan schechuan sauce, and it appears he is talking to Morty. However, Morty was never with Rick in the brainalyzer, so he would have no idea what Rick was talking about. So Rick is not actually talking to Morty in this scene, he is talking to you. And it could also be possible that he is trying to tell the audience that he is self-aware and to help him keep the series going so that he can continue existing. This could also be why he is so depressed and suicidal. He knows that his universe is meaningless, and that it can be shut off at any moment, and his constant efforts of keeping the series going is taking a toll on him...

i doubt they have the right to upload full episodes, even if its not on youtube. that could get them in big trouble.
They can upload the whole reaction if the show isn't in the video. They can upload it to CZcams and make them private so only patrons will have the link to the playlist's for what ever show's they wanted to do this for i really hope they do it for Avatar, Rick and Morty and Firefly. the patrons would love it and The Normies would make more money i would definitely be willing to pay more for it.

I don't think your theory is right about him still being in a simulation. In the past, when they do simulation stuff, they only show it from the perspective of the people who are actually in the simulation (like when Rick and Jerry were in the simulation). They wouldn't cut away from Rick to show Summer and Morty going to the Council of Ricks or any of the other stuff...if that actually happened then they would somehow have Rick see it happen. Thus, unless you think Summer and Morty are part of the simulation, I don't think that theory holds.

i wasn't sure about the he's still in a simulation theory because it'd be just like a copy of that one episode with the scammers and idk if they'd do that again, also because it's heavily implied rick is actually smart enough to strategically outsmart everyone and make everything go his way, but it'd be insane if that was right because there's so much potential for that, like imagine if they go through the whole season and the whole thing was just a prison simulation and then like evil morty busts him out or some shit lol

shawshank redemption was directed by the dude who brought TWD to tv.. he was the showrunner for season 1 and directed the pilot episode.
That theory that he's still in the machine could make sense. It DID come out on April Fools Day. "Rick escaped prison", couple months later.. "April Fools".

What happened?
Just to clarify for everyone - at the panel that Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland did recently (that was streamed on Adult Swim's website), when someone asked about the significance of the szechuan sauce, Dan confirmed that it was just a joke. There's no significance to it, it's pretty much a callback to the original pilot's end, where Rick rants for a minute or so at the end.
These three are my favorites on the normies channel, their like superman, batman, wonderwoman

In infinite realities, that origin story had to have happened to a Rick, perhaps that Rick warned our Rick that the council of Ricks will kill his family for refusing to join the council. So our Rick had to abandon his family to spare them the same fate. Would explain his disdain for the council, and his 20 year absence. I'm just not sure where or when he would have raised a Morty though. We see a Morty aging backwards in that machine Evil Morty's Rick was using. Unless he went to an alternate family in the meanwhile.
I was agreeing with Chris, until you think about the after credit scene. The base that Tammy and "Phoenix Person" were at was clearly recovering from the after effects of Rickmagedon.

I disagree with your theory, Rick wasn't on a simulation, it was a brainaliser, he was on a representation of his mind, where he can control everything. The only thing created by the aliens was the clones of Rick's family.

I have a counter theory, Rick's original family including beth were killed and he used the portal gun to go into an alternate reality where he became that reality's Rick. Rick always says that he can always switch reality's and live in a different one anytime.
My theory is that Diana and Beth did die and that's what turn Rick into the nihilistic sociopath he is now. however, the part about him making the portal gun quickly was fake. Since rick has infinite daughters and infinite wives, he might have found another Diana and Beth where they are still alive and their Rick left them after inventing the portal gun and he lived with then until she left him using the portal gun, which further darkened his personality and drove him into alcoholism.
Guys let me tell u something that story about Beth and the mom dieing is true... ok hear this after they died rick kept going through dimensions since everything was new to him he didn't know what to do and that's how he met bird person with the pic of him younger so when he actually went to the dimension with Beth had morty. And that's how we saw lil morty and that's y he was crying because they all died so he went to another dimension.. and that place rick was either dead or left them so he took the place as his own.

Do you think that the Inception route (still being in the simulation) would be to get to Rick through Morty? The Federation would have to know that all Ricks have a Morty. So it would be possible that they are aware C-132 Rick has a very peculiar relationship with his Morty. Morty is not happy with Rick's actions and could try to pressure Rick into spilling out some explanation, thus the formula.

After all, this show is about the pointlessness of life and absence of God. Rick proved it by praying to him and getting his prayer answered lol. One thing I don't get. In the "fake" origin story Beth got killed. It's seems like the Galactic Federation would know that she's still alive, on Earth, so that couldn't really be what happened.
And who was supposed to have sent the bomb? Another Rick presumably. But why bother? He wasn't going to invent the Portal Gun, so he posed no threat.
charles jones the rick we know might actually be from another universe where beth and her mom died in and took over this one. i think that the ricks believe that they must invent it, so they created a reason that rick to do it. maybe they dont like the view that one rick isn't going in there direction so create a reason for them.
