    I use a very similar setup. Some of the guys I ride with think I'm a wuss because I take some extra Comfort things like you do. But as you stated I'm a big believer that being comfortable and getting a good night's sleep is one of the most important parts of a going motorcycle camping.

    Great camping kit. Think a tarp is always a good idea because there are times when you need a bit of extra protection from the rain or sun. Also never go anywhere without some cable ties and some rope

    A tourniquet in the first aid kit for life threatening injuries, and I love my hammock and tarp set-up. Room to stand, no need for a sleeping pad. That insulation idea as a hammock liner might work in colder conditions too.

    As a newbie getting ready for my first motocamp, thanks for sharing your experience. Hello from Iowa, USA! I'll share some of my knowledge from work. NSAID like aspirin and ibuprofen are good for any pain caused from swelling. They do increase bleeding risk, and stomach ulcers. Acetaminophen(Tylenol) can cause liver damage when combined with alcohol. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) can reduce allergic reaction and itching but cause drowsiness. A tube of oralgel can work as a pain numbing item in an emergency. Say someone gets a fishhook stuck or something.

    One point: I guess it depends where you are in terms of delivery/import taxes, but I found a company called TomShoo that make titanium alcohol stoves, cups, pots, sporks, etc.
    They have near-identical products to Toaks but at a fraction of the cost (but check import and postage costs where you are - Toaks may be cheaper where you are.

    Only comment is based on personal preference and experiance. Panadol is a good basic pain reliever for the reason stated. Plain Ibuprofen or nurofen has a greater anti inflamatory effect, which as I age, crash less, I find more helpful. especially on longer multiday rides. So my thoughts are carry both, carry what work and use indicated. As usual great video

      I agree with Scott, but for different reasons.
      Aspirin/Ibuprofen's anti-coagulants will save your life if you happen to break a bone. I'd say that it wouldn't hurt to carry a blister pack of both, just in case.

      Mad Dog McBain's Motorcycle Adventures. You are right Mad Dog, more sever injuries just require an individual call. As much based severity, first aid back ground and in the end necessity as anything. My recommendation was for someone with basic first aid knowledge , one of the items I find I seem to consistently go to on long multiday rides.

  • @Whos-That-Guy
    @Whos-That-Guy Před 6 lety +3

    I agree with you about getting a comfortable night sleep, that includes being warm. It's number 1 priority for me when camping especially on multi day rides. I always pack my down jacket, it's comfy enough to sleep in if it gets really cold, fits under riding gear for the long cold freeway rides, it's super light and can be crammed into any small space in you bag.. Also if I'm camping less than 2 nights and I won't be around people too much I'll even leave the toiletries behind.... But I always back extra underpants. hahha

    Cool overview! For riding clothes you should look into Marino Wool. It comes pretty thin for summer, is WAY more comfortable then regular wool, but as durable as wool. And is Anti microbial, so you can wear Marino wool socks for a week and they never smell. Also, I found I can pack my tent into half the size in a compression bag if i pack the poles separate.

    Nicely considered items - while my GS can carry so very much, this year on my travels, I'd like to keep the weight down a bit more and these are great ideas that don't scrimp on comfort - I've also done cold uncomfortable nights and it really does leave you shy of 100% and that can mean the difference between disaster and a good experience so best to sleep well via lightweight but comfortable, warm enough choices... Thanks for sharing - appreciate all you do!

    Funny, I'm pretty sure I went the other direction, adding weight. I have an Amok Draumr hammock, an Exped Mega Mat and a Kelty Noah tarp. I used to use a Nature Hike 2P tent and China inflatable mat. Bike might be heavier, but I sure am comfy in camp. I'm sure I can more than make up for it by losing it off middle. 😉

    It's always funny to see that people tend to be 'lightweight' or 'ultralight' but then taking the heavy and bulky helinox chair with them. I do have, but never took it camping or ever needed it There is also some kind of log where you can sit on. Also in summer camping you don't need such a high value sleeping pad or bag.

      Thanks,
      Are you referring to condensation build up when in wet weather or the tents ability to stay water tight? Condensation was no worse/better than my other single person tent. I keep the vent open and its fine, well as fine as a 1 person can be. Have not bee in a rain storm with this tent. I got the tent from Aliexpress.com.

    How's the Denali 300 bag holding up? I have the Denali lite 100 which is synthetic and its starting to deflate, wondering if down keeps it's volume better? Members price for 300 is quite good at $80 now.

    • @chroniclesofsolid
      @chroniclesofsolid  Před 4 lety +1

      Its holding up well for a budget bag. I'm a cold sleeper, so once the temps hit +2 and below I do start to get cold. I have the Capsule 300 in this vid as well as the Denali Lite 50 and Lite 200. With both down and synthetic I always keep the bags unpacked so they maintain their loft. It is not mentioned as necessary much for synthetic but it has helped imo and is often recommended in hiking forums. I have not had any issues with deflation so far and I have had the Lite 200 for 5+ years. However, I probably camp 3-5 times a year and leave the bags out on the spare bed all year round, so YMMV. Hope that helps Ron?
