    Mr. Pike’s instruction on how to fix this issue that plaques 2009 Dodge Journeys is truly a blessing. His in-depth understanding of the mechanics involved in this repair is well thought out and communicated with razor-sharp precision.
    This video is a lamp of light to this most annoying condition that leaves many pros and DIY’ers alike in the dark chasing down dead-end theories and changing out needless parts to no avail.
    Very impressive work Mr. Pike. It’s obvious that you’re passionate about your craft and your style of delivering information to the masses is unmatched. Good job young man...good job indeed!

    To MotorCity Mechanic...Great video, great job of describing and showing a repair procedure. I have not watched but a couple of your videos but I am impressed. As a DIYer, retired mechanical engineer, and former VW mechanic, I can tell you are knowledgeable and have a great teaching manner. Your instructions are easy to follow and complete with tips and good visual illustrations. A+++

  • @kipamore
    @kipamore Před 6 lety +4

    Damn David, it's like you read my mind. One of my Promasters has exactly this problem - an intermittent start issue that I was suspecting was the key itself. Happens totally randomly - simply won't engage the starter. You wait 15 minutes, and it starts fine. It's been quite the head scratcher.
    Why exactly does this happen? I tried cycling the shifter, thinking it was the neutral start function, but that didn't seem to affect it. Will it get worse over time? Should I just commit and replace the range sensor now to avoid a future stranding? Thanks!
    BTW - I know what you are going to use to check the trans fluid!!

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 6 lety +1

      Lol.....I bet you do know, the stick was been out there for awhile on other channels as well. Not sure if this will be your problem or not. It takes getting it to happen and then monitoring the the range sensor switches to see if they match the park position or not. Its not a very common problem. Yours will certainly take some time to diag but like I mentioned.....the biggest issue is getting it to happen at the moment your checking it. Thanks for watching and for following the channel

    • @crusonboy81
      @crusonboy81 Před 6 lety

      Did you ever find out what that click no start was ? My wife's 11 town country has the same issue. Slamming the shifter to drive then to park and it seems to start.

  • @ronalde.6285
    @ronalde.6285 Před 3 lety

    Hi David. What position should the Link be in before removing the Range Sensor? Also you mention why the range sensor could be at fault based on certain symptoms or actions done. When you removed the old Range Sensor you didn't show us any physical damage showing the cause of failure.
    When doing a Solenoid Pack service in your video, you never touched the link yet other CZcams videos show the linkage being part of a step in this service, is something missing? and shouldn't the Solenoid Pack Connector should be checked for broken or stuck pins or wires?
    Lastly after a transmission job and a drive run is done,and something goes wrong and you have to open the transmission again, what do you do with the new Transmission Fluid installed? Do you replace it again with new fluid?

  • @hailea3840

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 2 lety

      Possibly. It’s going to need some further checking to be 100% sure. I don’t want to say from my keyboard without being there that it “will” be but it’s good chance that it can be

    Is a p0734 and p0794 common codes to have with a bad range sensor i found one person who claims after a rebuild and valvebody solenoid pack replacement that a range sensor finally fixed the codes and subsequent limphome mode i have a van im working on that has the issue of setting these after clearing and two test drives light resets then keep driving and goes to limp mode more often in stop n go traffic my concern is i dont want to attack this backwards so im studying everything before even opening it up

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 6 lety

      The code P0794 doesnt come up when I am looking around. The P0734 mainly just means there was an issue in that gear. I need to know more about that second code. Double check the number. I havent seen the range sensor cause the gear ratio code yet but anything is possible.

    I just bought a 17 caravan it has less than 6oo miles it seems like it's making hard shifts ,owners manual say transmission is in learning stages while new is there any truth to this they say it will straighten out as m I re miles are driven, plus salesman said leave it out of echo mode first 3000k is this bullshit?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 6 lety +2

      One thing that I will say about this trans is that there will always be a hard shift from time to time. Sometimes an upshift and sometimes a down shift. Its a normal characteristic for this trans and nothing that can be adjusted or replaced to change it. Its been a complaint since day one when it came out and still to this day I heard customers mention it. There is nothing wrong and may get better with software updates but for the most part.....normal for this trans. The driving in ECO is just a crap answer from them. Typical sales person response. I prefer to tell you straight and not sugar coat or make promises. There will be some learning for sure but you will always feel something at different times no matter what. Thanks Michael for watching and for the question.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 4 lety

      I dont think I have seen it do that but its possible being that its trans related. Typically I see a no crank issue. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

      @@MotorCityMechanic Thanks, will do. Our van has the occasional issue of not cranking and a few weeks ago suddenly went into limp mode. Gave a code for solenoid b. I replaced the solenoid pack but its still in limp mode and have the same code but also one for the range sensor. A trans tech told me it's more than likely the pcm. Thanks again. Good video.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 4 lety +1

      Really not many options other then unbolting it and taking it out the way. Its just to tight from what I remember to get that pan to come out. Been a long time since I did one on a 3.8 and I could be wrong but I still think that pipe has to come off. Thanks for asking and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.

      @buickjam Před 4 lety

      I ended up getting the top bolt on the backside of the the pipe off with a breaker bar. I never did get the bottom bolt off, but I was able to tilt the crossover pipe up(with only the backside, bottom bolt in) enough to get the throttle body and solenoid out. I have to go back on the road tomorrow, for a few weeks, so I haven't had the chance to put it back together yet. I'll post another update once I get it back together, to let people know if it can be done without taking the whole crossover pipe off
